    BMW Diff Removal

I have just installed my TracSport diff into my car after having it built by Steve. The drive has been completely transformed. He is excellent at what he does!
  2. Is there a benefit to going to the wider 225's with the R888?
  3. Never had a problem at all. I just leave it in the boot of the car and fill it up there!
  4. I have one of these and it is excellent. Has a really wide mouth for filling, but you will need the spout too. No spills, no rust, no paint and should last a while! https://www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/vp-racing-20l-fuel-churn-container-251514/
  5. To resolve the topic, i can confirm the size of the plug was indeed M20x1.5 Thanks for everyones input and information
  6. Ive recently fitted one that i got second hand. Im not convinced it deflects huge amounts, but never the less im happy, it gives visibility through it, and i have no plans on going back to a screen any time soon! The only thing is the type of mirrors you do or don't put on there due to quality and preferences, but thats the same with any aeroscreen. Would recommend.
  7. Having looked at the various links, it does seem like M20x1.5 is the favourite. Either a branded one or the Ford original
  8. Thanks Geoff, .... how did i know this wasn't going to be straightforward!! Surely the standard Sierra diff casings all have the same fill plug? or am i being extremely naive ??
  9. Does anyone know the size/thread/spec for the Sierra diff fill plug? (Currently have a second diff with no plug at all) I want to get a magnetic one but have no idea what size it would be. I can see the 'Gold' magnetic plugs have codes so any help would be appreciated!
  10. #20 Thank you MPH. My plan will be to get it done while the diff is out. Assuming it can be done with the gearbox in situ..... otherwise it may need to wait!
  11. #16 That's handy. Its always nice to have some additional ambiguity, and thankfully CC never fails to deliver !
  12. #14 Sorry, for clarity its from the flange at the rear and to the forward part of the UJ at the front
  13. So after measurement, the driveshaft is 60cm from flange to flange. Not including the insertable length as in the picture. (There really is comedy mileage in this)
  14. I will see if i can get chance to get underneath it again tomorrow and measure the prop and post my findings. Be interested to see if any other members have the same length and/or insertion issues!
  15. There is endless scope for comedy here! Im not sure if it makes a difference that mine is an SV?
  16. Thanks both. This has only just started leaking and it is not much and appears to be briefly after a drive and not constant. As for the speedo drive hole, i cant remember how it looked inside the recess now so will need to have another look underneath. Should it be blanked off flush with the casing? (ie no recess visible) My thoughts were to get the seal etc looked at when i have the diff out.
  17. The leak will show as a small patch on the floor after a blat that doesn't get worse over the time its parked. After looking underneath it seems to be coming from the rear of the gearbox? Propshaft seal? Unless anyone can advise differently? Im also presuming this can be replaced with the gearbox in situ? Additionally is there supposed to be anything in the recess indicated by the arrow??
  18. Is it too much to hope that they fit the SPA mounting holes ????
  19. #2 - Have you replaced them with something similar from a different manufacturer?
  20. #39 - the only thing in this thread that I am qualified to comment on is that these are two excellent publications! I also know where I can satisfy my desire for engineering expertise over a beer.
