AIUI, the sender is a variable resistor. At short circuit, IIRC, the gauge will read FSD; at open circuit it will read "40"; in between the reading will be incorrect.
Is my understanding correct, or have i got it wrong?
ETA: the new sender is the new type in your link; and is labelled 150 degrees.
