Speedtrip
I wouldn't recommend a policy underwritten by KGM at all.Inept is probably a good word to describe them based upon my experience.
Roadsport06
#53 Reading reviews about KGM leads me to think the same. Admittedly, if your claim is settled to your satisfaction you probably won't write a review, but plenty that are telling me don't bother. A-plan aren't looking good from my standpoint. They are polite, pick up the phone quickly, but have underwriters that have you on the phone for hours (I lost over 24 hours of my life in total on the phone), are horrified to hear you say that a standard body shop isn't the place to check over the car and make repairs, and tell you your car is unlikely to be economically repaired (the repair was only about £2k, and a big chunk of that was a new steering rack). Then when you go to a Caterham specialist you are told they will only cover £35 per hour of labour (A-plan did push for all labour to be covered and was). The advertising of A-plan on our club site would have you believe your car is going to be in safe hands
StevehS3
#54 I haven't made an insurance claim on any car for many years so a bit out of touch but I thought all the dealings were through the broker in respect of the claim. I thought A-Plan would deal with the both the client and the underwriter.
Wrightpayne
One of my other cars was hit while parked, driver owned up and his insurers dealt with the whole thing as liable - I picked the repairer and all dealt with efficiently. Make sure you get hit by a direct line insured driver!

Roadsport06
#54 I had been going through the other person's insurer who's underwriter was also Markerstudy. I ended up using my insurer, I still ended up with the underwriter trying to push me into one of their approved garages. I was told they would know what a Caterham was yet the garage hadn't worked on one. A-plan were helpful and McMillan Motorsport were brilliant but the underwriter still didn't make things straight forward and reading about the other underwriter that A-plan have offered me means they aren't getting my business. Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted April 6, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted April 6, 2023 The big saver for me is that MSM help along the way. Their support was invaluable to me. I'll take their recommendation every time. Insurance is not wholly about price, this thread shows it is about cover and service as well. This is why I will not contribute to any price comparison threads here.Do any underwriters pay out happily & promptly or do they all need to be persuaded to fill their side of the deal? Roadsport06
I've just had a quote from MSM. The underwriter is... KGM.
BenF
Can't you ask MSM do to a quote with Ageas as the underwriter? Would be interesting as a comparison
Roadsport06
I could ask about another underwriter, I wonder what the difference between A-plan using KGM and MSM using the same would be. Clearly MSM think that KGM are great for Caterham owners, or are MSM trying to compete on price?
BenF
My 7 is insured with MSM but with Ageas as the underwriter. MSM are very honest about their choice of underwriters and policies, I would just tell them that you have reservations about KGM and ask for a quote from Ageas.I think MSM do try to compete on price, but they also say that you get what you pay for. They explained to me that, seeing as they will be chasing up any claim, they choose underwriters with whom they have a good relationship.
Roadsport06
Good evening all. Just for completion of this thread. I spoke to MSM, I was told they wouldn't touch Markerstudy with a bargepole. Ageas is an insurer they use, mainly for the Ariel Atom but they put my mind at ease regarding KGM for the 7. I've just sent back some docs to MSM and had an email back, this at 7pm. A-Plan also quoted for KGM at a similar price but A-Plan have lost my confidence that they will really look after my car.
Dan R
#64 - This mirrors my experiences this year with both A-Plan and MSM.
Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted April 12, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted April 12, 2023 MSM 01279 870 535I needed to raise my mileage allowance for the 21 as I retaxed it. It would have been cheaper to have 5,000 miles from last June but I took it further than expected. What joy to use it more!
Roadsport06
Two months on from paying my excess and I still haven't received it back. I've contacted A-plan. They said marker study are chasing up the third party insurers and if legal action was needed they would do this to recover their costs. I've just pointed out to A-plan that the third party has Markerstudy as the under writer and rather than legal action against themselves they could just pay me my excess and move money around their own accounts. A-plan said Markerstudy didn't discuss the third party underwriter was themselves and would chase up for a quick resolution.
Roadsport06
Good evening all, 3 months on from the repair and having to chase up A-plan on a few occasions I have finally got my excess so the claim in now finished. That is over 9 months from some simple repair work from someone driving into my car. I'll be steering clear of Markerstudy and A-plan for that matter.I'm back with MSM who I moved from when I was doing the odd trackday.

StevehS3
I chose A-Plan at a time when comments were rather more positive. An actual claim experience gives some real insight. However, does anyone else offer windscreen cover AND [5] inclusive track days as standard and also a low excess of £1,000 for claims on track? My two previous insurance brokers covered windscreen OR track days and the excess was much higher.

GulfSeven
#70 Adrian Flux gives windscreen cover and 5 track days (although the windscreen isn't covered on track). My track excess is £3,200 though, but that's still less than 10% the value of the car (which a lot of insurers use as the track excess).
Billy.Whizz
Track days are extra with A-plan and I’ve noticed that Carlie has made no comment.
