Big Bad Baz
I've just tret me'sen to one of these: http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/img/p/1931-1929-thickbox.jpg But it got me thinking; that style of grille doesn't seem to offer much protection to the radiator over the mesh grille. Does one keep the mesh in place?
Mucus72
Yep, I certainly kept the mesh in the usual place, directly behind the 7 grille...
jingars
For pity's sake, think of the extra weight!!!!!!
Big Bad Baz
Quoting jingars: For pity's sake, think of the extra weight!!!!!! To counteract the extra "weight and complexity", I shall be removing one of the rear wheels. That should balance things out...
Graham King
Like M72, I certainly keep my mesh in place, behind the 7 grille. Don't like the idea of a stray stone embedding itself in my radiator. Graham.

Big Bad Baz
Quoting Graham King: Like M72, I certainly keep my mesh in place, behind the 7 grille. Don't like the idea of a stray stone embedding itself in my radiator. My thoughts exactly. Do the two sit nicely together, or are they a "comfortable" fit (ie a pain in the arse to fit)? The plan is to mask off the chrome bits and spray the "7" (probably) yellow.
Mucus72
easy fit for me. But then I am a giant who can only fit in an SV. So my nose cone is the size of an aircraft hangar...
Kevsta
Been there and got the t-short re stone in rad (was on a track day - and I wasn't driving!). Ensure the grill is not too restrictive, when I bought my car it had a fine mesh grill and was close to overheating at Spa. Kev
virden
The state of the roads up here suggest I should fit a mesh. Who supplies them?
Wrightpayne
I made one from some ally grill mesh from b&q. It's wrapped around the inner edge of the nosecone so sits well back. Fibreglassed a few fixings to the inside of the nose and tie wrapped it on. Painted with etch primer and Matt black which I had in stock. Cost a few £s and a bit of time. Graham King
Caterham sell them here, mine fit in without any problem. A couple of small holes for one set of pegs and a slot for the other set allows them to be fitted in.
Alan and Daisy
As Graham says the Caterham mesh fits well with the 7 grill, mines been in place for several years and never had any problem with overheating.
combine
Tried to take off the mesh on my 7 yesterday and its not as easy as putting it in place originally a few years ago , protects the rad well enough. Thinkinbg of getting a new mesh as its getting a bit taty/rusty !
Titanium7
Always had the '7' behind the grill on mine. Now have the Titanium one behind as well.
Ozzy
As above. 7 grille behind mesh grille. Paint just the 7 a nice bright colour, and it shows up nicely, and looks much tidier.
Big Bad Baz
Two schools of thought here then: Put the new grille behind the existing mesh, or in front of it. I'll see which works best (for me).
Mort
If you're in the habit of partially blocking off your radiator during the Winter months, then it's best to have the 7 grille at the front as it means that the radiator mask can be fitted without removing the nosecone, and can be removed very quickly if required. Having the 7 grill behind would also mean that it would only be partially visible when the mask was in place.
Big Bad Baz
Well, it's arrived: http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b337/Sciroccology/Converted%20RAW/DSC_6215_1069_zps42a12f92.jpg Probably going to spray the "7" yellow and the "stays" black so they "disappear". Halfords do a glow-in-the-dark fluorescent yellow, but I thought that might be OTT...?
