  1. The QED remote stat is supplied with an 8-16-16 tee piece as it’s meant to splice into the 16mm hose out of the header tank, not into the 8mm hose from the CH to the header tank. I had one installed in my old k-series for a good number of years and never experienced the issues you are referring to Paul. That said I was never convinced the QED solution was a perfect solution as it did seem to result in the engine cycling between normal to low temps until it eventually evened out. Graham
  2. Now sold. Thanks for the interest Paul.
  3. Nick, leave that with me, I'll come back to you. Paul, interest noted if it doesn't work out with Nick. Thanks both. Graham.
  4. Radtec high capacity aluminium radiator for Caterham S3, it came out of a K-Series but I believe also fits a Duratec, I don't know about the Sigma. It has previously had a small weep/leak from one place, which was repaired and pressure tested by Radtec. It was put on the car and subsequently used for approx 3 years before it was removed and the car was sold. It has now been unused for about 5 years. For Sale - £60 + Postage (Collection
  5. Have you seen this thread, it has reference to a lambda sensor for a duratec 420 /forum/techtalk/420r-emissions?page=1
  6. I did something similar on a TVR recently, I put these on the underside of the floor so that the bolts went through something more substantial than just fibreglass (which is all they do on a TVR ). Aluminium Channels Graham.
  7. Arron, if by luggage bag you mean the SBFS boot bag, then I have an SBFS E Bag (One of the original ones not the later RE Bags) that is now surplus to requirements as I no longer have a Caterham. Let me know if you're interested and I can send you a photo. Graham.
  8. Nick, when I did a similar exercise on my engine a good few years ago, I replaced anything that I regarded as consumable, that included the mounts, given the amount that will have been spent on the engine refresh etc my view was replace all that type of thing whilst it was easy, and the increase in overall cost was marginal in reality. Each will have their own view I appreciate but that's what I did. Graham.
  9. That looks distinctly like a Powerspeed system, there were several club organised bulk buys of their excellent 4-2-1 systems a while ago. Sadly I don't believe they are around any longer. Nice looking car btw, good luck with the sale. Graham
  10. Btw, would agree with Ivaan that fitting an Apollo is worthwhile, but I had an apollo and it still happens, it's just the design of the engine that makes it so, there are things you can do to help but you can't eradicate it.
  11. Skorn, when cornering hard the oil in the sump moves away from the pickup in left hand corners, the hotter the oil gets the more likely it is to happen. Personally if it's only dropping down to ~30PSI then I wouldn't worry. The sump gasket mod is easy and worthwhile doing as it could help alleviate the symptoms. Graham.
  12. Message to Probe2. I am unable to respond to your message as your mailbox is full. Graham.
  13. I sold my K-Series Superlight a few years ago now, originally the purchaser intended to buy this engine but later changed their mind so I am now selling my old engine. This engine was removed from my 1999 1.8K Superlight about 12 years ago, when I purchased a 2nd hand VHPD engine to replace it. It has since been stored covered in my garage, with all holes (exhaust ports etc) either taped or covered using an alternative means. So as far as possible it’s been sealed. I have poured a little oil into the bores and turned it over manually, using a socket on the front crankshaft pulley, on a regular basis, it turns easily. Full spec below: 1.8 K-Series (EU2) Supersport – 140BHP Approx 20K miles at removal Caterham Lightweight Flywheel Caterham Sump Pan Vernier Pulley’s Original SuperSport ECU (no remotes as these went with the car) No ancillaries (e.g. alternator) If I was buying this then before I put it into a car I’d replace the timing belt and pulley, I’d also remove the flywheel and replace the rear crankshaft seal. It would obviously be a good opportunity to replace the head gasket but I suspect not strictly necessary. Any purchaser would also need to programme any remotes to the ECU but I know there are people on here that can do that and also probably flash a better map on to it at the same time. The buyer would need to collect as I have no way of transporting it, I’m based in the South East not far from M25 J6. I have found it very difficult to value this as I’ve never seen an equivalent for sale in recent times. But I think given the cost of the sump pan, flywheel and the verniers alone, then a price of £1250 for the whole package is a fair asking price. I am happy to provide photos or further info to anyone that is genuinely interested. Graham.
  14. Looking at the size of the connector (looks like 8mm), the only thing I can think it's meant for is the 8mm connection to/from the header tank but I haven't seen one there previously and if you used it you'd have to blank off the current connection. Could it maybe intended as a bleed off point? If you want to blank it off then maybe something like this would work https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/search/203660010 or connect a short piece of the correct diameter hose and insert a blanking plug in that. Personally I'd be inclined to contact the manufacturer and ask them what they intended the use to be. Graham.
  15. Jack, I can't speak specifically about the Helix as I have no experience, but I can say that in my old 1800K SL (~210bhp) I stripped a new AP clutch plate on a trackday, the friction plate simply came away. I suspect it was a slight mistimed gear change that caused but I'd replaced the clutch (as the engine was out) and had to do it again. Graham.
  16. Paul, if you're already sorted then no probs, I have a tank available, it's not a full kit as I only have 1 hose but the tank is fine. Let me know and I can see the total bits that I have. Graham.
  17. Folks, I'd appreciate a few pointers on the value of the below: I have recently sold my 1999 K-Series SL. The car as sold had a 210+BHP engine that I had built from a 2nd hand unit that I purchased via Blatchat a good number of years ago. I still have the original engine that I took out from my SL and the purchaser of the car has said they would like to buy it at extra cost. However I have no idea what it's worth. The engine spec is below: 1.8K SuperSport (140BHP) Caterham Lightweight Flywheel Vernier Pulleys Original ECU No ancillaries The engine had done approx 20000 miles when removed from the car circa 10 years ago. Since then it's been stored covered in my garage for that time period. I'd does turn over freely by hand (socket on crank bolt). Any views welcomed. Cheers. Graham
  18. Arun, as you have a 6spd box I'm not sure the options for changing ratios are available, they are nearly all available for the 5spd box. If you want to change the relative ratios then a better option would be to look at the final drive ratio. If you have the 3.92 final drive then changing to the 3.62 (LSD as supplied by Caterham and as fitted to the original Superlights) then that would change things. I believe there are other (lower) final drive ratios available from other manufacturers. On my 99SL 1.8K, non-VVC (approx 210BHP) I had the Caterham lightened flywheel and uprated clutch assembly. The lightened flywheel does make a big difference to the driving feel. I'm not sure if they're still available from Caterham or if Redline are able to help, but I always enjoyed the combined feel on mine. I'm sure you are planning to anyway but whilst the gearbox is out also change the CRB, fork and spigot bearing. For the additional cost it's not worth trying to save money. Graham.
  19. Non on a Sigma but on my k-series I had a very similar looking leak with almost identical symptoms. Took ages to finally find it but as Scott says it was the RMS, so that would get my vote as the culprit. It wasn't sealed in quite properly so leaked slightly, either when the oil got hot (so thinner) or when left standing and the oil behind the seal gradually leaked out over time. Obviously a major job to change unfortunately. Graham
  20. Mine would have dated from around 2006, had a full system but no cat as part of a bulk buy. I can't remember the price exactly but from memory i'd say a fitted price of around £1000 sounds about right. They also modified my old exhaust to fit the headers for use at MoT time. £2400 with no cat sounds an awful lot have to say.
  21. Powerspeed (Ashurst, Kent) used to be the guys for k-series stainless 4-2-1 in the past, looks like they may be FastRoadConversions now. There were a good number of bulk buys through Blatchat, so a lot of happy customers. They had a jig, for both S3 and SV, so didn't need the car to build the exhaust, made them both with and without cat, also did a fitting service if you wanted. I had one on my Superlight, was a very nice piece of kit and made a discernible difference to the midrange. May be worth contacting them to see if they still have the jig and are able to make them, they were always open to multiple purchase discounts. Graham.
  22. Hi folks, I have two sets of winter wheels & tyres for sale, as below: 4 * 195/50 R15 Nankang Snow SV-2, on steel wheels (purchased new as a set). 4 stud Ford fitment. Came off my daughters 2006 Ford Fiesta (now sold) so should fit any Ford of that era. The tyres have 7mm tread left and were on the car for 3 or 4 winter seasons whilst she was at Uni, but she did very little mileage. They are date stamped 41/11 so are approx 8 years old but are in very good condition and have always been stored covered up so not in sunlight. Looking for £120 for these. 4 * 195/65 R15 Goodyear Ultragrip 8, on steel wheels (purchased new as a set). 5 stud VAG fitment. Came off a Skoda Octavia (scrapped due to flywheel failure) so should fit VAG group cars. The tyres have 8mm tread left and were only used for 1 season before the car had to be scrapped and replaced with a different model, so have done very little mileage. They are date stamped 35/13 so are approx 6 years old but as above are in very good condition and have always been stored covered up. Looking for £160 for these. I kept both of these thinking I may use them again on a different car but that's not going to happen now hence offering for sale. Both sets are located near Lingfield, Surrey. Prices above are for collection but I may be able to arrange delivery at reasonable cost. If anyone is interested I'm then happy to provide pictures if required. Cheers. Graham.
  23. Thanks for all the responses folks, I know my local garage have a borescope so will ask them to have a look and see if they can help in any way. I’ll post back when I know what has been found but it seems likely it’s going to end up with taking the head off at least . All so frustrating because it all runs so well, but I can’t live with the oil consumption any more. Many Thanks. Graham
