r300chris
have R300 2004 about 12k miles, only got it recently, I have noticed notchy going into 2nd from 1st when engine / g/box cold, fine when warm. Any suggestions and does this indicate a future problem. Note clutch bite point very high near top of pedal Chris
Matthew Willoughby
Mine always did that but was sweet as a nut when warm. I just used to miss 2nd out for the first mile or so.
Shad
Worn synchro maybe? If it's not been checked over for ~8 years I'd highly recommend you have it serviced, the 6 speed is a more highly strung gearbox compared to a normal road car or the 5 speed and things do wear out, especially if it's ever been used on track. Stationary M25 Traveller
Adjust the clutch cable to get the bite point where you want it ?
TonyR
My six speed was like this from new, was always ok after a mile or so. I found Redline MTL did slightly improve cold changes Tony
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted February 9, 2012 Leadership Team Share Posted February 9, 2012 Redline MTL Improves shifting through all the gears and is one of the few oils that is really effective in the 6 speed. Not cheap, but how often do you change your gearbox oil! Stu.
Mankee
Is Redline MTL any good for the standard syncros in a 5-speed Type 9? I've got a few litres of Silkolene/Fuchs Titan Race I was going to use. Not bothered about cold shift quality as the oil will always be warmed up before being hammered. Just worried about it getting too thin when hot and shredding new baulk rings.
Stationary M25 Traveller
Yes - it is ok in 5-speed Type
Paul Deslandes
5 speed box can be hugely improved with MTL.
r300chris
Thanks for info, this relieves the concern, will look into the oil recommended Chris

pebblebuoys
I've just put Redline MTL in my 6 speed. Got it from JJC. Free p&p until end Feb. Took about 1 and a half bottles. JJC
TomB
Make sure you order two bottles of MTL, one isnt enough for a drain & refill. Dont ask me how I found this out ..... 😳
Picon Biere
Just a quick question on the Redline MTL gearbox oil. Which viscosity should one use in the 6 speed box to stop first to second crunch. Ive also noticed that 3rd to second at a fairly high speed is not appreciated by the gearbox. Car has done 6500 miles. Todd
Paul Deslandes
The Redline website only shows 70W 80 here and is what I use. I'd be surprised and disappointed if you didn't see a marked improvement when you refill with it.
