TomB
Number plate light is worth a look. Several years ago I had these symptoms and I had to have sparky look at it. I think he found some corrosion & shorting there.
tbird
longish thread here about instrument fuse blowing, towards end found that speed sensor on rear wheel was the problem, may or may not be similar, although can't think why it would blow 2 fuses Tim Edited by - tbird on 3 Oct 2011 21:42:
Eugene
My bet is on a power cable having rubbed through on the chassis - probably where a cable tie holds the wiring loom in place??? Seen this a few time on different cars.
Tony Whitley
Quoting tbird: although can't think why it would blow 2 fusesA single fuse covers both circuits.
Eugene
Yep, check the loom at the rear, where is exist the prop shaft tunnel, and splits into left/right hand sides... but you have a 'rub' there somewhere???
zetec
Mant thanks fellas. Its so annoying. I gotta find it. I might try & disconnected the dash lights to seperate the problem
LazerBrain
I find that the bulb in my speedo slides out and can then short to ground, blowing the fuse. The giveaway sign is if I look down and see my knees lit up!
Gordon C
Craig, was wondering if your problem might be down to those high level brake lights you have not long installed ?
zetec
I think it has done it before then. They still work off the brake lights & all the brake lights work. Gotta be normal lights/ dash lights
Klunk
Hi zetec, I had this exact problem a month ago - traced it to a short between the the speedo/tacho ( can't remember which) bulb housing and the metal housing of the unit it sits in. Should say, these are the old mechanical VDO gauges. It may not be that exact cause but it was definitely that circuit. zetec
The bulb was pissed in the holder & must have been touching. I left it pulled out & replaced the fuse. No probs!! I now have footwell lighting!
