Aluminium staining

My R300 has no boot carpet as per standard.

Every time I put anything in the boot I get a grey ali residue on everything.

I have tried to clean the boot area metal with WD40, polish, you name it, I have probably tried it.

The residue will come off with jif/cif if it's a plastic surface but I don't want the problem in the first place.

How on earth do I stop this residue aside from fitting carpets?

The grey stuff is Aluminium oxide. It's aluminiums natural state when exposed to air, so polishing it just shifts the top layer, exposing another layer of aluminium to oxidise. How about anodising it? :)

Dave is right.

As a pikey that lives in an aluminium box I can confirm that there are only two things that will stop these black marks and thats covering it with paint or carpet or me robbing the boot floor and weighing it in.
