andy couchman
I've heard that Toyo 888s don't like temeratures below 0 degs Celsius. Anyone any actual experience? Is the problem with cars being used on the road below freezing or in a garage below freezing or outside below freezing? Or only way below freezing? Don't want to buy a new set only to find that come Spring, they have to be thrown away... Thanks. Andy
Tony Whitley
I didn't have any problem using them through last winter, though I am in balmy SE England. I think it's more of a scare than a real problem.
shn7
The manufacturer labels do warn that the compound may crack at sub zero temps. Can't recall if they talk about storage, use or both. pjp
Hi No problems here, you just have to remember that all these track type tyres are crap in the wet and cold, thats the trade off for exceptional grip in the dry. Pete
elie boone
They do advise that in storage the pressure should be lowered, and storage off the car.
Myles
My Caterham lives outside and has run 888s for years. No probs with 'storage' issues in the cold or otherwise. I've never bothered to change the pressure specifically for storage either. As posted above, the can be pretty-slippy in the cold & greasiness of winter roads, but so do most. 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 Alcester Racing 7s Ecosse™ 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 Alcester-Racing-Sevens.com
Panto Si
Living in one of the cooler parts of the country I was also concerned by the warning stickers on the tyre. However, mine lives outside most of the time and has no problems. Also I find the grip amazing in the wet! I guess if left to stand in freezing conditions for a long period of time there might be a problem. So drive it everyday!! Beaulieu #

Tyrone
Also I find the grip amazing in the wet! 'amazing' isn't the word I would use, 'Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!' sums it up nicely for me. Panto Si
Is that a good or bad fuuuuuuuuuuck Brian? Beaulieu #
DohNut
I guess good as it lasted a long time Fk would have to be a bad one.
Tyrone
The length of the word matched the length of time it finally took to hit the dry stone wall. It was definitely bad, but could have been a whole lot worse. NE Area Rep I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered. Panto Si
I Meant to ask you about that one before. Was it a damp road, wet road or standing water? Concerned now as with my figure I obviously have far less weight pushing my rubber down onto the road!! 😬 Beaulieu #
andy couchman
...and where's the best (cheapest) place to buy a set of medium compounds in 13 inch? Andy
shn7
Andy, Camskill were the cheapest a few months ago when I switch to Toyo's. No prices on their website but they responded quickly when I emailed asking. Delivery next working day too Steve. Big Dan
There is a PDF on the Toyo website detail what the problem is. The main point is cracking and inflexability of the rubber below -9 c. My mouse is refusing to let me use the right button otherwise I would have put a link in. Dan www.solentse7ens.co.uk www.harbourcars.com
jerrypike
I finally got to use my 888's at a very wet Lydden for our last race meet of the season. Was very pleasantly surprised at how good they were (got to race with people on full wets who are over a second quicker in the dry) given it was a gamble-have CR22's for wet use usually, but the 888's were 1.5 sec faster WRT storage: these tyres were stored in my unheated garage (off-rims) over the whole of last winter. So, first impression is really good jerry

Titanium7
Had some fitted at the weekend and the garage reported they were a 'challenge' to get onto the rims due to the cold ambiant temperature.
Gingerbread Man
I've currently got these on the front end of the 7 outside under the stars. Seems they're going to have a hard time then.
