  1. Another couple of hours yesterday - some very odd looks from the warmth of euro boxes but half a tank of hydrocarbons liberated back to their natural state. Drive is still white with frost so staying in the garage today.
  2. Out for about an hour yesterday 😬 First time in 8 weeks with one thing and another. No (OK, very little) hooning just buzzing along forgetting about the things I ought to have done. Like write that essay. Which is why I'm on Blatchat prevaricating.
  3. Only the experience that Northampton Motorsport said replace the whole unit rather than faff with seals. (But that was the slave and I suspect Troy was being pragmatic about the cost of labour to change the seals vs. a new part)
  4. Sounds like a seal is failing somewhere and the fluid is circulating around the piston under pressure. When my slave cylinder failed (suddenly and terminally) I was told that it's not uncommon given the exposed position. If it's the master I think the level in the reservoir would raise as the fluid returns and the clutch engages. How you press the pedal and watch on your own might be tricky. If the level stays the same I accuse the slave. But this is all based on theory - someone who may have seen will be along shortly.
  5. Hope you found it a good home Ed!
  6. Is the roll bar an FIA approved one? POBC will it fit an SV?
  7. I've never done anything to the doors but I'll have a go. Blatmail me if of interest.
  8. I have a VVC exhaust cam on the shelf awaiting being turned into a fire poker. If you can give it a more interesting future let me know.
  9. I think it's managed to sort itself. Perhaps those bumpy lanes on 6speedmanual's arcane Northamptonshire tour shook something. Will see if it stays sorted....
  10. Will have a look post Lions. Thanks for the suggestions.
  11. Out for a few errands this evening. 1/2 tank outside the garage, about where I left it, ten minutes later it's just above the red line. The drive has a slope and I wasn't paying that much attention so stop off at local petrol purveyor. 24 litres and it clicks off. That'll be full then. But gauge says 1/3. So what's the list of suspects? Fuel sender? Senders seem to get the blame for everything else but not when I searched the wisdom on here. I've done no more than repark in the garage so not chased down the other Usual Suspect 'dodgy earth' so any advice and guidance would be welcome.
  12. I have no links to seller. Anyone looking for a 2.3D? Ebay number 330942656976 Link beyond my ability on an iPad 😔 Note to self. Stop looking for things you don't need.
  13. One just turned up in For Sale. Perhaps fate? (No link to seller merely an observation)
  14. Drop link arms? They had failed on my similar vintage, VVC SV (if it's relevant), and resulted in loud clonking over bumps. As per previous posters ARB waggling most likely to reveal.
  15. Redline had a kit in stock and, as usual, it was with me within days. With a little time and care you can fit yourself (although I cheated and asked Dave Andrews to help, OK - do it, whilst he was rebuilding the engine anyway) but the lessons learned were to be very careful to get tight seals on the tank itself as they're very difficult to get at once in. Loop an alternator belt over it too. And there's a lug on the engine block right in the way that has to go too. Lots of info on here if you search. Big for Redline.
  16. Well Clarkson makes an income by simply collating his newspaper articles and publishing them in one handy volume every Christmas. Maybe a start could be a collection of your musings and follow the trains of thought as they come to you - I'd buy it. (And please keep the insights coming - you explain the techincal to the interested layman well)
  17. SV here (Can we get wider smilies too?)
  18. I have an 05 Golf that will be looking for a new home when the snow clears and I can get it out of the garage for a spruce up. If that's a small car to you let me know - there might be a deal to be done.
  19. It all helps with sump clearance! 😬
  20. (Gasket) Not mandatory though - I'm running without with no issues And that's following a rebuild by DVA rather than penny pinching/lack of knowledge - although Dave did put a smear of his wonder gunge sealant on it.
  21. My Banner recently decided that life was all to much and gave in - but some rapid man maths and a look at the calendar confirmed that I could get a replacement for Christmas. (From me, to me 😬) I've got (at least I think I do, I haven't opened my present yet) a Powervamp25 and have been advised that it won't last much longer than a week with the immobiliser troughing away. I think I've got the following options: 1 - Remove bonnet and attach trickle charge every time. A bit of a faff and I'm not comfortable with the idea of leaving something on in the garage. Also another faff on the way out. 2 - Find some way to connect the trickle charger (halfords own with crocodile clamps) to the cigarette lighter socket. Less of a faff coming and going but still not happy with the leaving on issue. 3 - Fit a battery isolator and turn it all off when not in use. Plan is not a FIA set up. Is the routine off and on of power bad for the ECU? It survives when changing batteries (or taking the old one out for some TLC before reading it its last rites) but is this really all it should tolerate? POBC - thoughts please. And top service from Seven Speed on the advice and delivery. Would have been next day had I been in to take delivery
  22. No experience of failue but when DVA had my engine in half 'saving' the £150 difference between new 160s and new forged felt like a false economy so I went for forged - but that was replacing the 120s. I suggest a call to Dave for a conversation to confirm or allay your fears - he will have seen a lot of 160s after heavy use!
  23. They are indeed. Volterra is looking for 13" x 5.5" so no issue of dibs if you're interested. Blatmail me for a picture if it would help.
  24. I've got a set of 5 16" five spokes with their centre caps if of interest to you.
