  1. Simon, I have fitted them to a VX engine. Fortunately my engine already had provision for the temp bulbs. Oil temp is in the remote oil filter mounting and the water temp is in the thermostat housing. Guys at Racetech were very helpful. Would be a good idea to have a chat with them. If you go for Racetech remenber to get the ones with illumination! Tim Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  2. Thanks. So they they would normally be set for max engine speed rather than max power or torque? Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  3. for Racetech mechanical gauges. I fitted oil press/temp and water temp last year. Very pleased so far. Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  4. Having completed the installation of my new DRE shift lights what should I set them to for the 'Hi' setting Engine is VX 2.0 16V HPC on twin 45s which according to spec sheet has: Max torque @ 5000RPM Max power @6750 rpm Max engine speed @ 7500rpm Also whats a good rule of thumb for the 'Lo' setting (i.e. when the first LED comes on) 1000rpm below the Hi setting? OAP, Tried to reply to your email but according to Outlook there is no domain name on your incoming mail and it wont send the message. Not sure a 5" is what I am looking for. I currently run a 6" unit (for noise limitation) with a 2" inlet from a 4 into 1 collector. What size is the inlet on the 5"? Do you normally go to the Weld Arms meet? Tim Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  6. Martin, Has the DRE unit definitely got a good earth? Seven Goes Mad in Dorset

  8. If you are going to mount it in the dash it needs to be a socket not a plug as it will have 12V on it when the ignition is switched on. I thought about using an in-line connector (from Maplin) and have the socket end under the dash as part of the loom. (not keen on cutting additional holes in the dash!) Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  9. I had similar concrns last year after a baffle change. In the end I changed to a mechanical guage which is loads better than the electrical one. I get about 60 psi (4 bar) at idle when cold and 15+ psi when hot. I also fitted an oil temp guage (capillary type) at the same time. Oil normally runs at about 80 degC if I remember correctly (haven't been out for a while ). Got the guages from Raceparts - v. good service Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  10. First dibs on the red helmet bag please. Thanks Tim Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  11. for Racetech water temp and oil press/oil temp mechanical gauges. Recently fitted them to my HPC and find it a lot more comforting to see 'real' values. Got them from Raceparts who were very helpful with the fittings required. Seven Goes Mad in Dorset

  16. I have the remote filter set up and I did fill the filter before refitting. I also have filed 4 small notches in the pick up pipe. Took the car out yesterday and it ran fine but the oil pressure seems a bit lower than before the change but I am using 5w/50 instead of 15w/50 (Mobil1). Wondering whether I need to go back to 15w/50? Paul, thanks for the mail I will pick it up when I get home tonight. Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  17. I have oil pressure! *thumbup* Just kept cranking in short bursts until I suddenly noticed that the oil warning light had gone out, fired up and bingo the gauge went straight to a steady 3.5 bar. Ran for a short time, checked for leaks pressure ok at about 3 bar (low?). Going to take it out for a blat and see if all ok. Thanks for the suggestions Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  18. Had the sump off again. Checked pick up clearance (with some blue tac), seemed ok. Put some small slots in the pick up just in case (as per a previous thread). But still no oil pressure when turning on the starter motor (10 x 5 sec bursts). How long can I safely turn the engine over without the oil pressure showing on the gauge or the light going out? Can I risk starting it for a very short time? Any help greatly appreciated as I have a track day (my first!) a week on Monday but am away most of next week on business and have friend staying with us next weekend so time to work on the car is limited Thanks Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  19. Have checked gauge and relief valve and all seem ok. Will drop sump off again to check pick up pipe clearance. Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  20. Yes, pickup pipe replaced. Car is still on axle stands and level do I need to get the nose down to encourage the oil towards the pump? Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  21. Changed the foam baffle on my VX today, complete with new sump gaskets and of course new oil and filter. All went well gaskets came off easily and all went back together ok(with help from my son ) Given the engine a few short bursts on the starter only but no oil pressure indicating on the gauge (electric sender) or light going out (Switch is on remote filter unit so oil may not have got there yet) Can it take a long time to get oil pressure after a baffle change? Thinking of dropping off the sump and having a look, but what to look for? Seven Goes Mad in Dorset Edited by - tiny tim on 30 Jul 2006 15:46:51

  25. If I remember correctly my driveshafts are different diameters. One is from circa 1996 (larger) and one is a replacement fitted in 2004 (smaller). i.e the later ones are a smaller diameter. Not aware that it makes any difference. Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
