  1. Managed to pick up a universal in-line filter at the local motor accessory store - only £2.99 Paul - Wiscombe dates noted. I will try to come along, will let you know nearer the time. Thanks Tim Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  2. Thanks Paul. I will need to check if I can fit one of these as I think the pump is possibly fitted to near to a chassis frame to get this in. (Use 90deg fitting at the moment). Car was running okay when I took it off the road at the end of last year to do the normal round of winter tinkering. Hope to get it back on the road in the next couple of weeks. Are you competing this year? Will you be coming down to Wiscombe again? Cheers Tim Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  3. Any suggestions for a simple in-line fuel filter (before the pump) for a 2.0VX on carbs? Preferably something I can get from Halfrauds Thanks Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  4. Alan, I replaced the misabs on my VX 2.0 and managed to do it without taking the manifold off. I agree that the lower nuts are pretty difficult to get to but with the car jacked up on axle stands (front and rear) it is just about possible with a bit of perserverance. Taking off the manifold can be just as difficult. Tim Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  5. Do they do an aeroscreen mounting kit 😬 🤔 Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  6. Looking to try and get hold of a VX 20XE thermostat housing - not the top bit with the thermostat but the lower half that is fitted to the engine block. Bit of a long shot I know but worth a try. Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  7. Have just taken the thermostat out of my VX 2.0 and it is stamped 82/97 deg. Is this the standard or lower temp thermostat? What do the markings mean? Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  8. On my VX 2.O 16V there is a threaded entry for fitting a capillary type temp guage. Any body know what thread this is 🤔. The thread on the adaptor that is fitted to it has an OD of 14.2mm and the pitch is 1mm. I want to get/make a new adaptor to allow the temp bulb to protrude further into the housing to get a better temp reading. Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  9. Scooter, Are the driveshafts for an SV or standard chassis? Thanks Tim Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  10. How much freeplay in a diff is acceptable? (De Dion with AP LSD). I.e when the car is jacked up how much should you be able to turn the wheels before the propshaft turns? Or vice versa. Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  11. Nic, I also might be interested if Stuart decides not to have it. Subject to condition etc.. as my daughter has just started driving lessons. Thanks Tim Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  12. Simon, I am not convinced that I haven't got an air leak on the manifold as it is impossible to set the idle below 1000rpm. When I first assembled it I used a new gasket but didn't use any sealant (e.g Hylomar) which should have been alright (not a big fan of sealants!). But to elimanate any air leaks I thought I would take the manifold off and put a small amount of sealant on (should probably put a new gasket on as well). The manifold does have a connection to the submarine pipe so it looks like I will have to drop the coolant level. Tim Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  13. Do I need to drain off the coolant to remove the inlet manifold? Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  14. I have a pair of alloy bodied adjustable platform 2.25" Bilsteins with 'red' springs. They came off a 1997 HPC. I am considering fitting them to my car (also an HPC) but I have a couple of questions: 1. What rating are the springs? 2. What would the likely affect be of using these on the front of my car with standard Bilsteins on the rear (progressive springs). Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  15. John, Give me a call. I have spare rev counter from my original car. Tim Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  16. Isn't it the XR4i 'box? Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  17. Dave, Have received email with photos ok . Took a long time to download, it was a big picture! Have tried to contact Gambo to ask spec and whether these are for through or under DeDion fixing. Will try to get back to you tonight. Tim Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  18. The BMW CD changer fits in the boot behind a panel on the LH side. I think it is pretty much plug and play as when I first saw my car it didn't have it fitted but managed to negotiate one as part of the deal when I bought the car. It doesn't have an mp3 input but an FM transmitter on an Ipod tuned to the radio gives pretty good sound reproduction. Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  19. Try here I asked the same question! How about that two postings with the same link only 1 minute apart! Seven Goes Mad in Dorset Edited by - Tiny Tim on 16 May 2007 22:33:58
  20. Use double layer of good quality masking tape. When filing to get the finished edge on the hole file on the 'in' stroke only (assuming you are doing this from outside the engine bay 😬) this way you avoid chipping the paint as you pull the file out . As the saying goes "measure twice, cut once", best advice is take your time! Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  21. Dave, Really sorry to hear you have decided to sell your car. Look forward to hopefully seeing you at the next meeting. Tim Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  22. Are CR500s only available from CC? Seven Goes Mad in Dorset
  23. I have just fitted one of these here in the bulkhead under the dash. Wired direct to the battery (via a fuse). It is marine spec and good value. Needs a largish hole (30mm) but is a very neat solution. Seven Goes Mad in Dorset Edited by - Tiny Tim on 29 Mar 2007 22:05:20
