  1. Spotted you coming from the general direction of Montgomery at the island for the A5 at about 14:30 this afternoon. Stuart and Sue
  2. Looking at the responses, the general opinion is that they are still very serviceable. This is good news and certainly what I wanted to hear. Thanks Dave. Your memory serves you well !!! Stuart
  3. Thanks for the replies so far. I will get a photo posted on here tomorrow of the pulley's.I have just removed the cover and they have "only 3 pinch bolts" . Thanks oily. This could be better news. Stuart
  4. I have booked my 1.6 K Series Caterham in to have the cam belt changed. I know the mechanics quite well having had my car M.O.T'd with them for the last 5 years. They have given me a reasonable price for the work including changing the water pump at the same time. However, they then went on to say that if the vernier pulleys have worn then they will have to be changed as well. Obviously this sends the cost soaring. I had the pulleys fitted as part of an upgrade carried out by Dave Andrews in June 2009. The car has covered 20000 miles mainly touring and blatting since then. What is the life expectancy of these pulleys? Can I expect to have to replace them? Stuart
  5. Hi Martin. Not the most reliable of switches as Roadsport06 says. You can take them apart but you will probably find that part of the contact area has worn away. The best way forward is to buy a new one from Car Builder Solutions or elsewhere. Stuart
  6. Hi Jonathan. I take your point about the bike shop. If I had thought about asking on this wonderous forum the first time it happened, I could have done it myself then. He never got the bike from the shop in Lichfield, he just went there as it is closer to where we live. The bike was originally purchased from an Evans Cycles outlet in the Chill Factor in Manchester. A bit far to take it back for repairs. Having said that, he has just had a fork seal replaced under the warranty. Stuart
  7. Thanks to everyone that contributed to this thread. I used a variety of methods to get the caliper to fit perfectly and it is certainly the best it has been. I did notice however that there is a very slight buckle in the disc. Even with this it is now 100% better. Stuart
  8. Thanks for all of the replies. There is certainly plenty to go at now. Forgot to say that they are hydraulic brakes. Pretty sure disc and caliper is the problem. Cycle shop is one in Lichfield, Staffs. Stuart.
  9. On my sons Trek Elite M/B he has always had a problem getting the front wheel to spin freely after putting it back in after cleaning or puncture repairs. Despite numerous trips to a bike shop, the problem has never been fixed satisfactorily. I have noticed tonight that the disc does not sit in the middle of the caliper. The only adjustment available in this area is on the caliper mounts. My question is "what is the best/correct method to adjust the caliper so that the disc does sit in the middle of it and therefore eliminating the dreadful squeal. I hope all of that makes sense. Stuart
  10. I had some work done by Dave Andrews in June 2009 which included a new cambelt and mechanical tensioner. Car has done approx 20000 miles since this work. K series 1.6. When should I consider getting the cambelt changed? Stuart
  11. Thanks for the quick replies. Reading into both, is the steering lock really necessary and if not how easy is it to remove? Stuart
  12. Ever since having a Caterham carbon dash fitted the bottom of it has been interfering with the key removal. Is it possible to move the ignition barrel round the shaft about 30-40 degrees so that it is in a lower position. It looks like it could be done by undoing the two bolts on the clamp but thought it wise to check first. Stuart
  13. Coming over the river bridge in Tamworth flashed and from MX5 in opposite direction, wish we were out in ours great day for it
  14. Well and truly hooded up. Pretty sure R400 ASV was leading. Sue waving like mad. Stuart and Sue
  15. 4 of you travelling on the A490 at 16:30 today. You were all together and about 3 miles from Welshpool. All of you had hoods on due to quite heavy rain. Gave you the from Peugeot 407 but pretty sure you would not have seen us. Stuart and Sue
  16. This is one of those threads that means you just have to check your own set up. On mine, the rear fog light goes out when full beam is switched on as others have said. I wondered if the fog light would go out when dipped beam on and full beam flashed. Answer = No. Mine has a very stringent M.O.T every year too (honestly sir) 😬 😬 😬
  17. Do a google for Clayton Heating in Coventry. They supplied mine about 3 years ago. Have you done a good search on here though. I seem to remember another member getting one off fleabay. Pretty sure it was an original mini one, but not certain. Stuart

British Racing Green with yellow strips at traffic lights in Mile Oak yesterday around 4pm, flashed & waved from an MX5 as I passed.
  19. You were driving through Burton away from the town centre at about 11:30 this morning.
  20. Spotted at Sainsbury's island in Tamworth at 4.00pm, on your way to Curborough perhaps?
  21. Looking at this thread as a numpty with most techy things, I have a Powerspeed exhaust fitted by them 7 years ago and having completed almost 25000 miles. How do you know whether they need repacking or not? Is it all down to noise regulations for track days? I do not use mine for track days and must say that over the years, the exhaust noise does not seem any louder now than when it was first fitted. Stuart
  22. Just discovered this is still in the garage. Any takers?
  23. Have just had an inquiry asking if the steering wheel is still for sale. It is 😳
