  1. Might be worth disconnecting from the Speedo end to see if the ‘drive’ turns when driving. I managed to remove and replace at the gearbox end without doing anything other than swearing plenty whilst under the car. It was fiddly but then again I am rubbish so probably made more of a meal of it than others. Rick
  2. A shot in the dark but.....I had the random fuel starvation that was caused by vacuum in the fuel tank. Car stops, you fiddle with something (giving time for vacuum to fill) and car works again. So next time it happens you fiddle with the same thing and the car works again. I discovered the vacuum by removing fuel filler cap after car stopping and hearing the inrush of air. Just a thought. Rick
  3. I want to replace my windscreen and would like guidance on where to purchase. Does not need to be heated (too expensive). Cheers Rick
  4. Brian, what is the 6th digit on your vin as you give 5LCxxxx 16RD? Rick
  5. The term friendly garages being compromised was mentioned by Brian. I fully agree with you in that using a garage (friendly) that understands our cars makes life a lot easier. My car passed emissions (visual smoke) at KwikFit but failed because the fog light went out when full beam was selected. Had to appeal to VOSA to get that sorted. Rick
  6. The post by ECR has the matter covered; the VIN code identifies the applicable test. It is clear in the regs (when I last had to look) under the heading for 'Caterham'. No need for a 'friendly' garage to risk anything. My car passed emissions at KwikFit. Rick
  7. It might be worth contacting VOSA. I once took my caterham to Kwikfit for an MOT. The guys were very good even allowing me to twist the headlights so as to get a pass on alignment. However they failed it, not on emissions, but because the fog light went out on full beam. The MOT guidelines were a bit vague on this point and they were quite apologetic for the the fail. I contacted VOSA by email (enquiries@vosa.gsi.gov.uk) and they replied the next day clarifying the matter and confirming it should not be a fail. I then phoned them (03001239000) and they agreed to phoning the garage which they did that same day. This is why I now go to a friendly MOT centre. Rick
  8. The stumbling block for you appears to be the 10th digit on the vin. If it were W or lower and with the 6th digit K, it would be a smoke test only. My advice, for what it is worth, is to take the car to an MOT centre that understands Caterham cars. Good luck. Rick
  9. Driving past the entrance to Wallington Hall (nr Scotts Gap). You were both well wrapped-up against the mid summer Northumberland weather. Rick
  10. I pulled up to tell you “spotted” but you looked occupied on the phone so I went on my way. Rick
  11. I heard you behind me through the Hatfield tunnel, wonderful noise. Hope you got home to St Albans OK. Rick
  12. Cheap? It seems a lot of caterham for not a lot of money. Good luck with the sale.
  13. Tyre size 215/70/R16 on C-Crosser (SUV 4x4). Spend 50% of life near Newcastle so snow conditions are more than likely; although would not have to drive too far in very poor conditions. Drive about 10k per year in this car which is mostly Mway (Herts to Newcastle). Not yet looking to have 2 sets of wheels/tyres (summer/winter) so would love an all season / cross climate tyre but would settle for a good summer tyre and take my chance with shovel and snow socks.Would like to keep cost to around £100 per tyre. Have spent hours looking at reviews on tyres and beginning to lose the will to live. Any suggestions for a tyre? Rick PS - would like to close my previous thread but do not know how to.
