    Zetec - Oil

I've got oil/water temp readings via a switch, and the oil temp is usually around 100/110, with the water at 90/95. Just about perfect. 😬 😬 😬

    Zetec - Oil

All I posted on was my direct experience... The change has made a real difference, so I'll be sticking with it! 😬 😬 😬

    Zetec - Oil

For those lucky enough to be driving a Zetec powered 7... I've been running on Valvoline Durablend - 5w-30, with no real problems. But, I have just changed to Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 fully synthetic, with impressive results. The engine is quieter over all, feels 'free-er', and really does seem to run better. The pick-up from cold is better, and when warm there is an obvious improvement in pick-up out of corners. I made the change for no real reason, other than I needed an oil change as I had replaced the dip stick, and needed to re-mark the 5L point. Really glad I did now! 😬 😬 😬

    Alternator Fan

AH!!! Found this: The fan at the front of alternators is an exhaust fan. The fan draws air in through the opening at the back of the alternator, where the air will pass through cooling fins at the rectifier heat sink. And the air will be drawn through the stationary β€œstator windings”, where the air will also have a cooling effect. As usual with moving air through passages, the same fan efficiency will suck more air than the fan could blow through. That’s why the fan at the front is an exhaust fan. So, my assumptions on alternator cooling were wrong!!! πŸ˜” πŸ˜” πŸ˜”

    Alternator Fan

Mmmmm - if it is clockwise then that's the same as my alternator... pushing air outwards... I need to look into this further - looks like my assumptions on how the cooling works are wrong.

    Alternator Fan

Looking at the top alternator, which way does the 'fan' rotate? Clockwise, or anti-clockwise?

    Alternator Fan

Looking at the fan on my alternator is would seem it rotates in the wrong direction I cant remember from previous engines, but this is a Raceline Zetec, and it appears that the fan rotation pushes air out away from the alternator, rather then 'pulling' it in to alternator body. Does this make any sense? Zetec checked his alternator and it is exactly the same. Are different 'fans' available for alternators???
  9. I think the correct part number is: 88G274
  10. The SpectraDynamics bushes I fitted seem to be no longer available. But these Powerflex ones are basically the same: HERE
  11. Found an old thread... here
  12. Do a search of the archives and replace with a polly bush. Did mine years back, and have never had to replace them again... 😬 😬 😬
  13. That suggest over-fuelling on 2 and 4, or lean on 1 and 3...
  14. Quoting tbird: Ideally, the lower wishbones should be parallel to the ground... Then the sump height is what is is. unless you can lift the overall engine height Tim I did assume that was a given 😬 My engine can't possibly go any higher!!!

  16. Yep,it is πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈ
  17. Got the sender fitted - you can just see it at the front of the sump http://www.lightillusion.com/images/bog_club/temp_sender.jpg The front 'plug' is from the pickup, so it the oil temp as it enters the engine, And I fitted an On/On switch to swap the reading over on the temp gauge http://www.lightillusion.com/images/bog_club/temp_gauge.jpg Edited by - Eugene on 8 Feb 2013 14:04:58
  18. I can't remember what Chris did for Eugene, but as you have experienced it works very well! 😬 😬 😬 Give Chris a call (7 Workshop).
  19. Yoko 021-R's 185/70 on 13" rims. 16psi all round. The side-walls are just about the right stiffness I find. 😬 😬 😬
  20. I have the same 'Titon' harnesses as GJT, but have not crossed the crotch strap over as that placed the cross-over directly on top of the crown jewels... 😳 But note, I have bench seats, so just sit on the straps - they do not go under the seat squab. Without crossing over, and with the 'T' connector, the crotch straps run down the side of the thighs, so away from sensitive areas. 😬 😬 😬
  21. I'm a fan of higher revving, smaller capacity engines, but its knowing what needs 'changing' to get the higher revs??? I'm not going to change to a Duratec, as I really am very happy with my Zetec and the power it presently produces, but if some time in the future I were to look to increase power through more revs, what would be the things to look at with the Zetec? Now, there's a question that has no simple answer! 😬 😬 😬
  22. I'm intrigued.... What do the buttons do????
  23. So, I went with the NGKPLTR6A-10G plugs... Replaced a set of Motorcraft plugs, and the different is rather obvious - the pick-up has improved (not that is was bad before) - although in this weather I'll have to wait for a real 'road test'... 😬 😬 😬
  24. Actually, you need a switch with on/on capability 😬 😬 😬 No 'off' function!
  25. Driving!!!!! 😬 😬 😬
