  1. Paul You're not supposed to use it you fool ! It's just for draping casually across your trailer or over your quick lift jack.... 😬
  2. Not terribly practical for racing either !
  3. 12v type from Machine Mart 0845 450 1800 £29.95 + VAT Includes 4 impact sockets. Very useful for undoing nuts and refitting same. I then finaly tighten by hand Edited by - ecr on 21 Nov 2002 12:07:48
  4. Not an expert on K's (or anything else really 😬) but I believe that they do not require a catch tank. Best to ask a K expert.
  5. From 2002 Blue Book Boots and gloves are not mandatory. Plastic shoes are to be avoided though ! 3 layer suits are not necessary (ie 1or 2 layer is acceptable) but the suit must be made from Nomex111 or Proban and be to a recognised standard (list in Blue book)Proban suits are available for around £100.00 in Demon Tweeks catalogue Helmets for MSA events must be to BS 6658-85 type A (type B is not acceptable) or Snell SA 95 , or Snell SA2000 so your current helmet is no good unless it has stickers inside it to these standards. Also acceptable for MSA events (and international events but I doubt that you will need this to start with !) are SFI foundation 31.1 and 31.2 and BS 6658-85 type A/FR (same as type A above but with Fire Retardent lining) We hope (with Barrys help) to get the Curborough entry forms on the web site on the same day as the first Low Flying hits the doormats so if you keep your eyes open you should be in with the same chance as everone else. I hope that you do get an entry as we love to see new people having a go
  6. Glad it was that simple And we have all learned something 😬 (including you....)
  7. My type 9 Quaiffe dog box (H pattern)can apparently be upgraded to a sequential box for about £1000.00 by the addition of the sequential barrel mechanism. This would indicate that the innards are the same in both boxes.

    towing eyes

My 1990 De Dion chassis has only the front towing eye. The two eye option must be post 1990 only.

2002 Blue Book E 12.2.3 (Must) Have a protective bulkhead of non inflammable material between the engine and the driver/passenger compartment capable of preventing the passage of fluid or flame. With no pedal box this is not possible so Yes you do need one. I would guess that you will have to construct one yourself as I have never seen a commercialy produced one. I have an alloy sheet over my boot floor and a shield around the fuel filler pipe (because everyone else did when I started sprinting !) The only reference I can actualy find to it in the Blue Book is: Q 14.1.2. And I suppose this only really applies if the car is driven with the hood up (when the fuel tank is "inside" the car with only a wooden cover over it). I would fit one.
  10. Sounds more like a recipie for disaster !
  11. A pressure washer would almost certainly damage the foam...
  12. There is a section in Competitors Korner on the technical regs required (I wrote it !) here Although this refers to 2001 regs It still applies for 2003 afaik Edited by - ecr on 31 Oct 2002 13:33:20
  13. I believe that Caterham have supplied both Alcon and AP disks as spares for the front uprated setup and that they were manufactured to the same design so as to be interchangeable. However apparently Alcon did not actually manufacture them, they were manufactured for them by a part of the European Automotive Components Group (who have also supplied AP and Brembo) The cast blanks were derived from a Nissan part. Oh and the bloke who cast them was named Charlie... (Anyone care to take this back any further )
  14. Whoever is going to do the re chroming should be able to strip the unit for you (and probably do the polishing as well)
  15. I Used Hoosier Autocrossers for sprinting till last year. They were excellent. I only changed (to ACB10)out of interest rather than to improve.
  16. I tried to source these a few years back with no success. I believe they may be a Quinton Hazel part. Anyone got any connections there ?
  17. Simon Sorry to hear that you have problems... at least it comes at the right end of the year ! My car was originaly a crossflow and the conversion to 2.0L VX was fairly straightforward. I would imagine that it would be little different to putting a VX 1600 in. You have a live axle and mine is De Dion but Lol Pilfold and Paul Harvey (and probably a lot of others) have put 2.0L VX in live axle chassis so it can't be impossible. Whatever you decide good luck ! Roger
  18. Why didn't I have a son like you...... Try asking John Watson at the Lotus Seven Register (link at top of page), he may just know of one for sale Good luck.

    Steel Baulk rings,

I know nothing about the 6 speed box other than the gearing originated from Land Rover (apparently !) so perhaps the syncros are sourced there also ?
  20. Not sure which box you have got but can the gearbox move forward rather than the engine move back... If you can still mount the rear of the gearbox on the cross member then the main question is whether the prop shaft is long enough (which I would suspect it is...) Your gear lever will be further under the dash also..

    Steel Baulk rings,

The steel synchro rings need hand lapping to mate with the synchro cones (same process as lapping a valve in). Apparently if this is not done they are prone to friction weld themselves to the cones (because if they don't have 100% contact they will slip too much ?). I have never really understood why once a ring is lapped to a cone it should need relapping so soon. Presumably because they are so flimsy the work involved in gear changing distorts them. Re lapping was not neccesary however with the Moly coated steel rings available from SPC (no longer made).I suppose that this was because the moly coating allowed some slippage without friction welding occuring. There are even shortages now of Ford OE bronze rings (Paul Davis experienced this very recently). Dont forget, the type 9 box has been out of production for a long time.
