  1. LADS Top Tip. Use an oil can (£5) with a bit of washer tube attached to top up gearbox and diff.
  2. If it happens when engine is hot then relay mod will be your cure. Strangely I have had a similar problem with cold starts that has been getting worse. Took the starter (also 23 years old) apart and cleaned it but no better. Had an auto electrical company look at it and they declared it ok. Cleaned every contact and replaced some cables and bought a new battery but still no improvement. Borrowed a starter off one of the other LADS and immediately it turned engine over much quicker. Problem gone. I guess after 23 years my starter was just "tired".
  3. Overall dimensions of imperial and metric chassis are pretty similar but differences exist in type of tubes used and different designs of pedal box and various internal tubes/braces.
  4. Roll bar on metric car is a different style than imperial therefore boot cover likely to be different. Don't expect all bolts on a metric chassis to be metric. For example bushes on suspension are imperial therefore bolts are imperial. Seat belt mounts are universally 7/16 unf.
  5. I'm not familiar with all the differences but I do know that my imperial car has the bottom male dzus fasteners attached to a bracket on the chassis. The female dzus fastener is attached to the nose cone. The nose cone rests on top of the bracket. Later cars (assume metric) have the male dzus fastener on the nose cone and the nose cone goes under the chassis bracket which has the female dzus fastener on it. Does this help?
  6. If all else fails attack the nuts/bolts under the car with an angle grinder.
  7. Gavin. If I understand correctly from your questions on Facebook the solenoid is clicking rapidly when you try to start. If so this is the solenoid going in and out but not enough current to turn the starter. Did you try jump leads? Did it start? If so definitely battery.
  8. "Bypassing the switch directly brings the lights on." Dies this mean you are running a feed direct from the battery to somewhere? Not sure I understand.
  9. Faulty switch is a very common problem. Remove both wires from switch and with ignition on touch them together. If lights work switch is broken. Replace with a better quality one from Car Builder Solutions.
  10. If it's leaking oil there I'd suggest it's broken and needs replacing but at around £126 it's cheaper and much better to go mechanical. HERE
  11. A type 9 gearbox doesn't have a drain plug, only a level/filler plug. Hence the need to symphony/pump it out.
  12. Any of these any use:- HERE
  13. Easy in roll cage is so new and so few that I doubt you will find one second hand.
  14. As said you need channels under the floor. I would also suggest tack welding the bolts to the runners to make fitting and tightening nuts easier.
  15. It's over 20 years since I fitted mine and thinking about it I probably made up the hoses myself using banjo fittings. If your hoses are as per the ones on Caterham site it looks like the hoses have a fixed male end and a female end. I would suggest that the male end goes into the 3 way and the flat end of the male/male adaptor goes into the caliper using the washer. The female end of the hose then attaches to that. Hopefully when things are fully screwed in there should be enough room.
  16. Who supplied the hoses? It's normal to have banjo fittings on the end of the hose that connects to the caliper so you can attach to the 3 way connector and then connect to the caliper and position in the best orientation. EDITED to say that my car has banjo fittings as above but looking at the Caterham Parts website it seems they supply hoses with straight fittings. I assume they fit the fixed fittings to the 3 way and the fittings using the double male adaptors to be fitted on the caliper. It looks like you are trying to fit the straight fittings to the caliper and it appears to be much longer than those on Caterham site. Are fittings at the other end shorter?
  17. No. A company that's only just advertised themselves as a Caterham "specialist". Apparently a part of second hand car dealers Reedley Car Company. No stock of Caterham. No knowledge of their Caterham experience. Some discussion on LADS Whatsapp.
  18. Yes. You simply knock out the old studs and draw the new ones through as you suggest. Suggest however you check and re-tighten after a few miles.
  19. To make checking the level and filling easier I have put a filler plug in the top cover. This enables checking with a home made dipstick (thick wire). LADS Top Tip - use a simple oil can with a length of plastic tube attached (like the tube used for the washers). Also works for diff top up.
  20. I'd suggest a physical inspection of hoses is adequate and change if any signs of damage or cracking.
