  1. A genuine Caterham offside CF rear wing weighs 1055 grams - on my scale at least. Would imagine a DITP wing would be lighter - and not limiting the operational range of the car as suggested above /r
  2. If the thread in the apollo is M10 (I think it is) you can use the oil temp sender off a MK1 Golf GTI (or the water temp sender of any Golf MK1, but it is not proved to survive above 120 deg.) /regin
  3. Mine was supplied as "components" but has a "K" in the chassis number... /r
  4. It's a French thing, and probably has to do with the crash test! /r
  5. Chris W You are absolutely right; I'm just a bit tired... But you have indeed explained what I meant! Thanks for correcting me /r
  6. In some tintops, using a LED, there is a resistor parallel with the LED, say you want a consumption of 2W @ 12V this would leave you with a resistor of 72 ohms. As a safety precaution would I go for an 82 ohms. Remember it needs to be *at least* a 2W resistor, preferably 5W not to get too hot! /r
  7. Or maybe to realise that the price has to drop... /r-)
  8. Try either www.parceline.co.uk or www.baxglobal.com /r
  9. Jackal YHM But probably won't accept my offer! /regin
  10. When I saw a max seed of 423km/h 6.500 revs, 6psi and 125deg water temp it was due to a faulty earthning of the battery. Once this was sorted I had to rotate the bracket for the speed sender as it would not read anything over 150km/h. The faulty eartning gave loads of interesting readings /regin
  11. Jonny, violence is the keyword - and then maybe heating up a bit with a gas burner. I would suggest grinding the surface of the lower column to fit properly to the new bit, and further grease it with super lube or something likely to avoid it to get stuck again. Remember that this is a part of your safety equipment! /regin Edited by - RJ on 3 Jun 2004 22:31:49
  12. Boongo, you could use a switching relay to do the switching job, and then use your on/off switch to operate the relay. But: You'll loose performance as the relay weighs at least 30 grams! /r

    Carbon fibre - how to

Many thanks everybody! - the mouls surface is *not* the issue, I can tell you that! /r
  14. Does anyone know how to achieve the beautiful finish of the carbon fibre supplied by CC? I would guess the base used is some kind of pre preg stuff, but... Now, I'm not going to produce wings or nose cones - or in fact anything for a 7, but for another piece of toy... Many thanks in advance /regin

    CF EU3 Camcover.

Guy, Yep, it runs well without, but I'm not sure that the coils are waterproof anyway. And it looks slightly unfinished - but weighs less I have not been able to hear any difference, but that could be because I'm deaf /r

    CF EU3 Camcover.

Guy, it just seems odd to me that a lightweight engine carries a cover that heavy. And to be honest: It annoys me!!! Maybe I should just fill the engine with helium instead of oil; would save 7kgs /regin

    CF EU3 Camcover.

It is not pointless: The original Rover item weighs about 800grms! That is disgusting! /r
  18. I have just removed the wet sump, oil pickup and flywheel from my 16k miles Rover VVC EU3 engine to make it fit into a Caterham. These parts are free to a good home, I'll even pay the postage just not to see them go into the skip. These will *not* fit a Caterham!!! but someone must want them anyway. The sump hasn't got a mark! Of course I wouldn't mind if anyone would send a fiver to NTL (postage will probably be far more as I'm in Denmark!!!) /regin
  19. Karsten, none of the Caterhams hold an EU type approval. The EU commission is currently working on having harmonised the type approval, so that there no longer will be any local demands to meet. In this new directive draft there is a section describing cars produced in low volume, that's the part reflecting to us. I would imagine that I could find a German version of the draft, and email it to you, but it has not yet been implemented, and some of the issues still discussed are the crash tests. It is pretty heavy reading, 'cos it is 243 pages in my language (Danish)... The Caterham holds a UK low volume type approval, which is a local UK thing, which I recon makes it easier to pass the SVA test - in England (just read the threads about SVA in NI 🙆🏻) I don't know the local German regulations to be honest! /regin
  20. Chris W: The original post said "but he can only provide a 4.1 replacement whereas the existing item is a 3.92" Maybe it's because *my* calculator is faulty, but 4.1/3.92*100 is quite close to 4.6% /regin Edited by - RJ on 22 May 2004 16:40:46

    Stack dash problems

Bob, I recon that the warning only appears when the engine is running; I had warnings about low oil pressure and warm water when the earth connection failed. You could teasily test the features of your instrument by removing the wire from the oil pressure sender. /r

    Stack dash problems

I'll second PC, have just had the problem. /r
  23. Anything is possible, but it doesn't make sense; it would probably be about 5-6k£ parts & labour. (even the exhaust is different...) Why do you want it to be converted anyway? It really isn't a problem with a RDH car on the continent. In fact, I would prefer a RDH 7 to a LHD even though I prefer a LHD tintop in the UK /r

    storing a 7

Andy, if you need to store the car for 3 years I'd thing that WD40 in not enough! I would use a protector for tolls used in i.e. plastic moulding industry, there is a nice product called "Rocol", which I'd use for exposed iron things. If it is completely impossible to get hold of in the UK, I can send you a "sample" from where the crow turns! I think I'd try to find some military spec protection for the engine as they seem to have a usable way of storing their lorries etc... /regin
