  1. Unless you look inside, you can't tell whether you've got hardened valve seats. As I'm not a big fan of aditives, my own personal choice would be to run it on regular 95 octane unleaded and keep an eye on valve clearances. If set recession gets bad, then go for a proper upgrade with hardened valve seats and forged pistons. Piecemeal upgrades cost money but don't neccessarily give the expected improvements unless you've tackled all the weak spots. SEP field working, not spotted in 103,100 miles.   3. 9 to 1 compression isn't that high. My Xflow must be on more than 10 to 1 and doesn't need more than 95 octane unleaded (it has got hardened exhaust seats though).   4. It should go as described, although it is quite fiddly. Make sure you take the column UJ off the rack, and by using the full articulation of the track rod ball joint you should be able to feed it out.   6. There are a lot of unknowns, so I can't give a complete answer. If you search techtalk you will find this has been covered extensively. As a starter though, 12 degrees at 1000 rpm is the usual setting. The timing is done on the front of the engine, not the flywheel.   7. The clue is there, I think. Re-powder coating means that there is no earth connection to the chassis.   9. With time the bubbles will rise and merge. Bleeding all the time stirs things up, so leave it for a couple of days, then try again.   13. Shimming the rack to minimise bump steer has to be done on a car by car basis because it is to compensate for production tolerances. You should not use settings from another car, and if the rack is raised too high the car becomes unstable under braking (just when you really don't want it).   16. If you've spent some churning it over on the starter, smell the exhaust. If it doesn't smell of petrol, then the fuel system is suspect. To check for sparks, pull a plug and rest it on something earthed (head, bulkheead), and look for a spark when you crank it. A fuel-air mixture should come out of the plug hole at the same time.   18. There's no standard Wilwood setup, with different owner going different routes. I wanted something to go over the standard disks so I went with Billet Dynalite 2s. The weight saving is significant and the pedal feel is better, so I'm happy. I had to change the hoses as the caliper fittings are different. SEP field working, not spotted in 103,100 miles.   22. Ditto Mike, the scavenge pump must always pump more than the pressure pump. If not, the consequenses on a dry system are disastrous, as the oil collects in the sump, where it's no good to the pressure pump. Blow by is more usually a sign of a ring problem.     Brighter bulbs

    I went for some brighter (legal) Osram Bilux H4 super bulbs as rcommended by the local autofactors, and I'm very pleased. There's a 55W legal limit, but they noticeably better, and only cost £25 per pair. I've never had a bulb go on the seven, so I'm happy with the cost.   24. On xflows the confusion comes from the fact that Ford specify hot for standard cams, but the SS cam manufacturers (Piper and Kent at least) specify cold.
