  1. I have used Vaseline with success. I think the petroleum part of it soaks in to the plastic. Polish has usually gone back to grey for me.
  2. hi Angus Yes I did this when I swapped from a crossflow back in 2007, Blimey how time fly's. I fitted the throttle bodies and filter and then measured out from the nose cone and the top of the side panel to set the centre datum of the filter and them made the first hole a lot smaller hole to start the cuts. Use masking tape on the bonnet so you can see the pencil lines. Then keep measuring and checking and cutting more off the bonnet very carefully! I finally set the hole so it was slightly tight to the filter so there was no gap between the bonnet and the filter. Even though I say myself, it looks good. I bought some black electrical grommet strip that I glued to the edge of the hole with silicon so it had a safe edge all the way around and this presses onto the filter. The engine doesn't move much so this has not been a problem and looks better than some of the over large holes you see on some cars. My engine is slightly forwards of a standard car so I can't send a template. The cutting was done with a Hand Nibbler and a dremel and if you take your time it's quite easy. Regards Andy D
  3. Parked on the Scarborough Road, no roof just before the showers hit!
  4. I had a similar problem when I converted my car from Crossflow to Duratec in 2007. The clutch feel was a bit "hair trigger" and I didn't like it. I guess caused by the race spec plates and converting from cable to hydraulic. I modified the clutch pedal to reduce the pivot ratio ( a bit like the the reverse of the high ratio brake pedal) and this made the car far more drivable with no loss of clutch performance.
  5. No problem Service with a 😬

  17. Hi has anyone got a type 9 gearbox in bits? I'm looking for the steel clip that is inside the gear stick hole on the drive rears side of the gear box. This is the reverse detent stop which prevents reverse selection unless the gear stick is pressed down. It's for my sons escort gearbox which we have only just realised was missing when we have finally got it running! Cheers Andy D
  18. Thanks for the info Bob. Elie, the engine came with it and with 4 spots, headlights and heated screens it's nice to have the output to be on "top of the job"
  19. My Son is trying to use a Standard Ford Duratec Alternator with an aftermarket ecu which has yet to be bought. This is on a MK 2 Escort so he need the high output. On the original Mondeo set up I understand that the ECU controls the output. Is there an "idiots guide" as to how we can make this work? Do any of the aftermarket ECUs offer this function? I have browsed the internet but I am unsure. Cheers Andy D
  20. A nice piece of 4x4 timber with bits of carpet to protect the bottom skin and postion it in line with the engine mounts. Then axal stands outboard of the bodywork.
  21. Autoglym and Belgom are both good. I polish mine maybe twice a year but tend to use T cut as it give a light abrasive polish and does not clog the polishing cloth too much, Finish off with a resin polish to give it a bit of protection.
