  1. "Trying to work out if a ****el engine will fit." - it's been done. Mike
  2. Crikey Arnie, what with this admission and your extremely tactful and reasoned posting re. SBD 208 VX kits, have you been on an intensive course of mellow tablets? 😬 Mike
  3. What size wheels Simon (diameter & width), and why do you say that profile can't be less than 55? Mike
  4. "SBD's own taper bodies" are Jenvey taper bodies. Mike
  5. 208bhp from stock head & cams might appear to be a tad optimistic. You'll need a high pressure fuel pump (and fuel pipery), which means either fitting an external high pressure pump or changing to a stock Caterham injection tank with internal pump. You'll need a fuel return pipe to the tank (not sure if a carb tank has this). You'll need a set of injectors. The SBD bodies are indeed Jenveys. Mike
  6. Class A3 if you're on List 1A. List1B would put you into class D, Hillclimb Supersports Cars and Sports Libre Cars up to 2000cc I think. Yes, you could be up against some fancy engines. Regs are here Mike
  7. QED's hillclimb-spec KV6 is a cracker. It sounds *fantastic* too. Not cheap I expect! That Cosworth Duratech does look good value as engines go. Mike
  8. Talk to the guy doing the balancing and point out where the weights can/can't go, they can usually sort it out. Mike
  9. I replaced both gaitors (due to having split) on driveshaft over the winter (the other one still looked like new ). Changing the rear wheels over today I see that both the new ones have split Lots of black gunge everywhere. One has a small split where it has probably chafed on the cable tie holding it on when it ballooned up at speed. The other one simply has a flap/hole halfway along it big enough to put your finger in. These were Duraboot neoprene gaitors - maybe they're not up to the wheel speed experienced on a powerful 7? I think I'll try chucking at the Ford dealer this time. Mike
  10. Some part of the gearbox/bellhousing/engine contacting a chassis rail or panel? When you accelerate hard in reverse or use a lot of engine braking (travelling forwards) the torque reaction on the gearbox/engine assembly will be in the same direction. Mike
  11. Removing the outer weights is unlikely to help. If they're in roughly the same position as the inner (removed) weights then removing them will make the static unbalance of the wheel worse but improve the dynamic unbalance. If the outer weights are more or less diametrically opposed to the inner weights then removing them will make the static unbalance of the wheel better but make the dynamic unbalance worse. I'd get them rebalanced. Mike
  12. If you fit the 'long primaries' Caterham 4-1 exhaust system then you will need to make a bigger hole in the sideskin. My engine happily made nearly 240bhp on that exhaust, so it's obviously suitable for quite a long upgrade path although you'll get much better midrange (from a high state of tune at least) with a 4-2-1. 1.4K Supersports were fitted with a different (bigger, aluminium) plenum chamber which may or may not have included a different throttle body (I don't know). 1.6 and 1.8K Supersports all used the same plastic plenum & throttle body as their non-Supersport variants. Mike
  13. Polishing is a waste of time. Not a great deal of help I know, but at least I've saved you some time... Mike
  14. Yep, they're the same injector. OK @200bhp on my 1.6K but close to 100% (running at 3 bar). Mike
  15. Weeeell, OK, PPC championship is more 'South' than 'South-east', and the first 'C' ACSMC stands for 'Central'... Mike
  16. HSA champs are List 1A for roadgoing. Some very good competition. Calender: here All home counties/south/south east champs are List 1B for kit cars, 2 classes with a capacity break at 1700cc. Calendars (with lots of overlap): here here here here Mike
  17. There are *heaps* of sprint/hillclimb events around the country every weekend. Register for the HSA (Hillclimb and Sprint Assoc.) championship and one or two others (PPC, ASCMC etc.) and you'll have more regs flowing through your letter box than you can cope with. Mike
  18. Does Snetterton Motor Club still do track evenings at the circuit??? When/how/etc? Mike
  19. Well there's a cam cover on Ebay with a buy-it-now of £120... Mike
  20. Up to a point I guess. The front is more prone to aquaplaning than the rear, so not-too-wide fronts would seem to be a good idea. Mike
  21. Someone was telling at the weekend about a roadcar you can now buy which has fly-by-wire brakes (might have been a Merc) - I can't understand how that's acceptable on safety grounds but a hydraulic handbrake isn't. My #1 request would be a decent lightweight 2 or 4-pot rear brake caliper with working handbrake and all at a sensible price. #2 and #3 would be a free, reliable, carbon-fibre DD tube and propshaft... Mike

Might be worth watching this here? Mike
