  1. It looks as though it'll cool a bit better than the Sierra caliper. Mike
  2. A friend of mine used a dolly for years to tow his Caterham to sprints all over the country, never had a sniff of a problem (except when he towed it home in gear...). Still, it could turn out pretty serious if it invalidated your insurance (though I'm not sure it could). Mike
  3. Duh, rear (I'll edit the original post). I suspect it's something to do with the crappy Sierra caliper. I haven't pulled the pads yet, but it's clear from the disc surface that there has been very little contact. Mike
  4. When I fitted my new £££ Pagid pads earlier on in the summer I did as the nice man at Performance Braking recommended and gave the discs a good going over with some nice sharp aluminium oxide paper. Just had a look at the rear discs the evening and the outside of each disc has clearly done a goodly amount of braking and the pad has bedded into it nicely. The inside of each disc however has done next to jack schitt. There has been some light contact in the centre 1/3rd (radially speaking) of the contact area, but not much, and none towards the inner and outer 1/3rds of the contact area. What gives? 5. I vaguely remember hearing Lightning Looms being recommended in the past. A quote from another website: "These guys design, build and install wiring looms and dashboards for kit cars. They go to the customer's house, measure up FOC, and build a loom to an exact spec. They will also fit it if required. They can also tackle most electrical problems that folks face." http://www.lightninglooms.co.uk/ (I suspect their looms are better than their website - it doesn't mention wiring looms...). Mike
  6. What about a braked dolly (baaa)? Mike
  7. Nearly 2s off that Harewood record is a hell of a result too. I think Griff should have a crack at the Midland Hillclimb Champs next year, it's there for the taking with the times he's doing. Mike

I wondered how much Andy would lop off the sub-1700cc List 1A kitcar class record - nearly 2s is the answer! The world has moved on, bike power rules! This class/record has been pretty hotly contested over the years - I held it for a couple of months back in, ooooh, 2000 or 2001 I think - it was 64.21s then, 63.14 now. Over 1700cc List 1A record is 62.28, so Andy's 61.41 resets the bar comprehensively. Complete results are here Mike
  9. ☹️ My '98 vintage SA 95 helmet still looks like new... Mike
  10. It ain't got much to do with cavitation (or ant-eye-cavitation) either... Mike
  11. Aren't the laws of physics great Mike
  12. OK, just curious. This is going to be a limiting factor for ultimate specific output (compared to BDs & things which will rev to 10k). I use 9.2k in the lower gears when I'm against the clock 😬 Mike
  13. Why only 8.5k if you're going to the bother of having a steel crank made? MIke
  14. Is that cheap? Try here. There's a 2002 Prosport 'Busa on there for <£16k.. Early 1100 Clubsports seem to go for just under 7k and upwards. I don't know the ins & outs of the plethora of models though. Mike
  15. Std. K-series and Supersport will be the same. The pattern you've quoted isn't what's on my '97 K-series. As I understand it there have been 3 different flywheel patterns over the years on the K-series, early ones were 36 teeth, 2 missing, and then later came 2 different variants of 36 teeth with 4 missing. They are shown here (search for "ROVER MODE"). Mine is mode 2 of those listed, the one you've described sounds like mode 3. If you can shine a torch at the flywheel teeth where they're read by the crank sensor and turn the engine over slowly (e.g. with a socket on the front pulley bolt) with the plugs out then you should be able to count the teeth and see what the pattern is, though I'm pretty sure that all stock Caterham installations use mode 2. Mike
  16. There was a batch of Superlights which had a Rover-compatible input shaft on the (6-spd) gearbox. Mine (early '97) was one of them. I changed it to a Ford-compatible shaft so I could use the AP SLR/R500 type clutch. Mike
  17. The 1.4K came first. When larger-bore 1.6 came along it used the same crank (only the pistons & liners are different). Mike
  18. As long as they install an internet connection so he can still get on to Blatchat... Mike
  19. Interesting to see how the F1 engines have improved. A few years back my 1.7K made more power than a Cosworth F1 engine at 7000rpm! Mike
  20. There was an article on this very subject in the Motoring section of Saturday's Torygraph. Some/many/most modern diesels prime the fuel system when you unlock the doors, which can be sufficient to get petrol in where it shouldn't be and require a complete £££ stripdown of the fuel system. The advice is that if you put petrol into a diesel then don't even unlock the doors! Though I doubt many people lock their doors while they fill even if they do when they go to pay. Mike
  21. Hint: Take 2 cars, 1 very powerful, the other more so, add the outputs together.. Mike
  22. 😬 I was wondering what to buy them...
