1700 Supersprint, 4 speed, Live Axle. Supplied in '92 by the Factory in full kit form (CKD) as the GTS Model. (Forerunner to the Classic SE). The car has only covered 4600 miles, is in excellent condition and remains in standard unmodified form, fitted with clamshells, KN Jupiter wheels, adjustable cloth seats and full weather equipment. The car was first registered in 1995 - it appears the original owner did not build the car - this was carried out by a Classic Car Garage. I have a lot of documentation for the car including the original Order Form, Spec Sheet etc together with the Owner's Manual (This details services from 1997 to 2011, when a total of 697 miles were completed!) The car has obviously been lightly used, has 4 previous owners, is currently SORN'd and was last used in the Summer of 2020. The car is on a Q Plate. Not sure why, as with all items supplied by the Factory, I would have thought it would have been on an age related plate. However, this gives an advantage at MOT as the car is exempt from emissions testing, with only a visual smoke test required. £11,500

Andrew, Not sure if you are still looking, but, due to a change in personal circumstances, I may be selling my Seven. It's a 1992 live axle Supersprint, not a major project as the car is in very good condition. I bought it some months ago as a winter project. The car has not been on the road since summer of 2019, but always garaged. It has done an extremely low mileage - 4,600 (verified by MoT Certificates).The car was supplied as a complete kit by the Factory in 1992, but the original owner appears not to have built it. It was acquired and built professionally by a classic garage then had 2 further owners before I acquired it. Thanks Roger - that's very interesting. It seems to make absolutely no difference to starting whether the choke is used or not, so I'll go ahead and remove it.

I've just acquired a '92 Crossflow (GTS model supplied as a CKD Kit) and the twin 40's are fitted with a choke. None of the several Crossflows I've owned had this. Is the fitment of a choke of any benefit, or (as I suspect) an additional complication surplus to requirements?

I use some clear plastic tubing of appropriate diameter cut to length (about1/2”) heated up in water to make it malleable then slid over the hook on the bonnet.

If the car was supplied as a full kit (including the engine) from Caterham (which, I think, would be shown by a "C" as the 7th letter in the chassis number) then the 8th and 9th letters in the chassis number would show with what engine it was supplied (GS for a 1600 and 17 for a 1700). If the engine does not have a Caterham rocker cover, I would suspect the car was possibly supplied without the engine. (I think this would be shown as the 7th letter in the chassis number being either an "A", "O" or "S"). Thus the original builder may have sourced the engine elsewhere.

Thankyou for all your replies. I will forward them to my friend and he can decide on the appropriate course of action. I know, from a cost point of view, he would prefer to source a secondhand unit.

The car originally came from the UK and none the ones shown on CC's on line spares have numbers matching those detailed above. Don't think anyone is available in Cyprus to repair his existing one. Does anyone know if any other type (with a different number) would do as a replacement?

All a bit above me, but on behalf of a friend who lives in Cyprus, am trying to source an ECU for a Sigma engined car. His current ECU, which requires replacement, has a number 38L036A and 00033528 on it. Can anyone help or point me in the direction of a replacement part?

Hi All, Were all Crossflows supplied by the Factory (particulary in the early 90's) as part of a full CKD kit fitted with electric fuel pumps or were some fitted with mechanical ones? I am aware that many Crossflow supplied by the Factory were either on 711M or AX blocks ,but were some supplied with other blocks? Thanks

Did Caterham actually carry out any modifications to Crossflow (and indeed SOHC VX) engines (eg fit hardened valve seats/guides etc) at any time to allow engines supplied by the factory (e.g. as part of a CKD Kit) to run satisfactorily on unleaded fuel, or were the modifications purely confined to a revised distributor with different advance settings?

Looking at the practicalities of refitting a spare wheel carrier to a car which has had it removed - leaving "stubs" of the original carrier protruding from the rear panel. What is the minimum length of the "stub" required to retrofit a replacement? Are replacement carriers available? (It's for an imperial chassis car - Caterham only supply carriers for a metric chassis). If carriers are available what is the fixing method to the "stubs" (eg bolt through with internal or external sleeve).

One Bought So No Longer Wanted - the black vinyl bag used to pack the jack/tools etc. Perhaps someone who has dispensed with heir spare wheel may have one which is surplus. (I’ve posted in Wanted Section as well but thought I’d also post here until people get used to the new separate For Sale and Wanted Sections).
