  1. An auto tensioner os fine for 633 cams, make sure you change to an auto belt and linish the surface of the tensioner so it is not distorted, or use the metal roller variety. Oily

EP don't usually deal in Caterham installations so I think the preference is for them to be ordered from me as I have installed a large number of Caterham airbox kits in the past and can probably offer better after sales support. Both kits are going out to customers who wil be in touch to ease the installations. As soon as I have an installation (Covid rules rather scupper that at the moment), then I will make a chronicle of installation to replace the existing one on my website, the existing instructions are around about 90% appropriate, but there are some detailed changes with the trumpets , the fuel rail mountings and the throttle trunnion.   3. Had the final incarnation of the K series airbox kit here today, these should be available from around 4 weeks time. The kit comprises Mountings to allow retention of stock injectors, fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator and remove the need for replacement injectors, fuel rail and external fuel pressure regulator. Cable hanging bracket to allow retention of stock cable and remove need for expensive linkage Easy fitting backplate. 4 x 42mm or 45mm 90mm trumpets, aluminium spun with machined bases GRP airbox made (which is nicely made) Suitable airfilter. The kit contains everything you need to fit Jenvey throttle bodies to your engine while allowing you to re purpose the entire existing injection system avoiding the not inconsiderable expense involved in replacing the injection system componentry. It is custom designed to suit the Caterham installation. Recommended price £550. Oily
  4. Never seen one fitted, although there is often provision on the loom for another sender, the connector for which is usually tied back onto the loom. Oily
  5. AFAIK only the VVC has an oil temp sensor in the original Rover incarnation and that is on the VVC actuator, the oil filter housing only has an oil temperature switch. Oily

  7. Quaife do an ATB for most BMW diffs, but the Sierra one wont fit. Oily

The final incarnation of the new airbox kit for jenvey TBs will be coming over for evaluation next week with the intention of producing them for sale over the next 3-4 weeks (although as with all things there may be a little slippage). I will report back as soon as the airbox has been examined for fit. Oily
  9. Just be careful if you have a lightweight flywheel as these do not have the same machined recesses, they have raised spurs which will snap off if used to lock the flywheel. Oily

Wedging a screwdriver in the ring gear has worked for me single handed on over 200 Caterhams and around 100 Elises, an alternative as long as you dont have a lightweight flywheel is to use a length of round bar (12mm or so) through the hole where the crank sensor fits and push it into the crank sensor holes. Or the method with a screwdriver and mole grips on the induction side of the engine on the wing of the engine ladder. Oily
  11. You could probably go to 12:1, but compression alone isn't the only factor to consider, squish, chamber shape and finish these will have an impact on how well the engine tolerates the CR. Beyond 11.5:1 it's diminishing returns and increasing risk. 1444s dont have a lot of duration compared to the 1227 R500 cams, just a very rapid lift ramp. Oily

Longer duration cams need and tolerate higher static compression ratios, but generally there is not much to be gained from going higher than 11.8:1, certainly very few of the engines I have built have had static CRs higher than that, there is always the danger of detonation with resultant destruction of the engine if you go too high or if the octane rating of the fuel is not high enough or of the timing is a little too far advanced, I would sooner go a little too low and sacrifice the odd lb/ft of torque and have the engine's safety margin a little wider.   13. Heating and immersing in oil usually does the same. The shims I have made are silver steel and are through hardened so when ground you don't break through the hardened layer. If you know the sizes you need I may be able to supply ones that require little or no adjustment. I have a reasonably large stock holding from 110 thou to 160. Oily
  14. Duratec airboxes.. It's unlikely as the molds are specifically for K series engine and Geary's main business is with the Lotus Elise, the Caterham airboxes are being made as the majority of the parts are common with the Elise airbox. I don't think that Caterhams and Duratecs are his area of expertise. Oily
  15. Today Geary from Eliseparts came over and we did a trial fit of the new Caterham K series airbox kit to a Carterham I have here. There were a few adjustments to be made , some dimensions to alter and some small parts to design and manufacture so it will be a few weeks before all the modifications that are Caterham specific are incorporated and a working prototype is available. The kits looks pretty good and some of the parts have been redesigned and are beautifully crafted. I will keep you all informed of progress. Oily

It's possible but it's likely to cost you a good bit more than the equivalent DTH bodies and they will be considerably bulkier than the bodies, whether they will require the bonnet to be cut is hard to say and whether they will clear the chaisis rail isn't possible to assess without an attempted dry run installation. DCOE approx installation costs £1600 + the cost of filters, hosing, trumpets, banjo connections, fuel pressure regulator, throttle linkage etc., I'd say well over £2000. DTH approx installation costs £1200 complete with airbox, trumpets , linkage and everything you need. Oily

With the right airbox kit you can retain the whole of the injection system from your plenum, all you need is the DTH TBs , the airbox kit (now available again) and an Emerald ECU with adaptor and appropriate map. Installation instructions are available on my website. The Webcon manifold for the DCOE lookalikes is agricultural, heavy and you cant get the attachment bolts in the holes without modification, the port spacing is also a long way off from the head ports. DTH bodies are the way to go. Oily
  19. Pop off the cambelt cover and have a look, the foam doesn't do much, it certainly won't cause a leak due to its absence. Oily
