  1. Darren, you could save yourself some time looking for left hand corners and use the same right handers but in the different direction. Thus having a constant to meassure by wink.gif Gareth Edited by - Gareth Harrold on 23 Oct 2001 14:11:42
  2. Alex, I've never had any problems with Arrowstar in the past, but I've never really got on with Derek since he looked down on me and the wife for having "only" 15K to spend on a 7! And then when he repaired the wheel bearing he said that he would never have sold a Caterham in this Condition (ie high milage with the odd chip in the paint work)...snob! wink.gif As you say it a personal thing. Cheers Gareth
  3. Chris. I don't think that it's a bad batch because the first bearing was possibly 2 years old. Arnie/Tony. The car is currently at Arrowstar for inspection so I'll speak to them Monday to see what they find. If it appears that the bearing(s) had failed due to incorrect fitting do you think I'd have a case against Classic carrige/Caterham Midland?
  4. I'm not a happy bunny sad.gif. Last night after meeting Sid Spalding in Oxford not 2 miles from starting out the rear near side wheel bearing decided that it had had enough. What worries me is that in January when I bought the car from Caterham the same bearing failed on the way home, but was fixed under warranty by Classic Carrage. This was approx 7000 miles ago (and 1 track day). Could there be a funametal problem with this side of the car if so what should we be looking at? Any Ideas wound be great 'cause I don't want to have this trouble again in 7000 miles time. Cheers Gareth PS A big thanks to Sid for rushing to my assistance I hope I didn't spoil your evening too much.
  5. Pierre, How old is your chassis. Mine has two fixings on the rear bulkhead for a crutch strap. If yours hasn't got them then I think there was a feature in LF many months back regarding fitting the strap through the floor using additional floor rails as used to fit the seats. Failing that you'll have to use the two seatbelt points. Hope this helps Cheers Gareth
  6. Glad to see that you've got the problem sorted. I'm going to take a look at mine as it constantly runs at around 90-100degc whether in traffic or not. I've tried bleading the system but didn't use the technique you mentioned. Could you give me some more details on what the mechanic did with the milk bottle etc. Also does the stat have the temperature stamped on it or do I have to guess. Hope that the pressure test turns out OK Cheers Gareth
  7. I'm due to replace the brake fluid (Currently Dot 3!!) with Dot 5.1 and wanted to know if I should flush the old stuff out first and with what? Cheers Gareth
  8. Chris, Were the "Newer" dampers my old one by any chance? Gareth
  9. Jimmy, I've just changed to the 4:1 and am well pleased with the end result. Looks better, has a more pleasing note and does feel better when overtaking in 3rd gear (or just might be me smile.gif). Also I can now go on track days as it's been measured at 95dB at Castle coombe last Tuesday. Cheers Gareth Edited by - Gareth Harrold on 19 Sep 2001 17:55:07
  10. How often does this need to be changed and is it easy to do. Is it just a case of dropping the sump, replacing said foam baffle and gasket then putting the sump back again and re-filling with oil? But I guess its not going to be that easy is it Cheers Gareth
  11. Hmmm. Interesting. Replacing the cams sounds intereting. If I was to replace the Cams myself what sort of work is involved?
  12. Chris, I've fitted AVO's to my De-Dion 7 and found the straight forward. If you are removing the springs from your old shocks then you will probably need a compressor to remove them. Re-fitting them shouldn't be a problem as you have adjustable platforms. It took me a couple of hours to do mine and was quite easy. I've still got to get the car corner weighted at some point but for now I just made sure that I have the same number of turns on the platforms. Have Fun!! Gareth
  13. I know this has probably been asked before so I tried doing a search and all I kept getting was message say "script time out". So I thats why I'm asking again. I'm going to replace the A framr bush on the DD tube as was wondering how easy it is to do and what special tools I need to do the job if any. Thanks Gareth Hmmm. How do you get you wife plus twins into a 7question.gif
  14. Paul, I've just gone to 4:1 comp. exhaust. I had the same thoughts regarding the MOT. The only thing to do is to keep the old system in the garage and swap it before the test. Once done swap them back. Thats my plan anyway. Cheers Gareth Hmmm. How do you get you wife plus twins into a 7question.gif
  15. Just a couple of things 1/ What should the spark plug gap be on a 1600 k series and 2/ Is there a K&N air filter available to fit the same. Cheers Gareth Hmmm. How do you get you wife plus twins into a 7question.gif
  16. Thanks Peter but I've managed to get hold of one Cheers Gareth Hmmm. How do you get you wife plus twins into a 7question.gif
  17. I've now got myself a bias Valve but need a flaring tool to fit it. Does anyone know of where I can purchase one or can any one lend me one for the weekend? I'll pay any postage etc. Thanks Gareth Hmmm. How do you get you wife plus twins into a 7question.gif
  18. Any recommendations on a brake balancing Valve, best place to buy and Hints on fitting one. The reason I'm thinking of fitting one is that I can't stop my rears locking under heavy braking. I've replaced the front pads with EBC Green stuff bu this made little difference. I'm going to bleed the brakes sometime this week so I tought I may as well fit a balancing valve while I'm at it. Thanks Gareth Hmmm. How do you get you wife plus twins into a 7question.gif
  19. Since I've had my Seven for about 6000 miles I thought it time to replace the A frame bush. This thought popped into my head as I was near to Caterham Midlands, so I nipped in for a replacement bush. Derek greeted me with "Can I help you" So I told him that I wanted to replace the said bush "why?" came the reply "We've ran cars into 10,000's of miles without replacing them, you don't need to do it on a de-dion car" Hmmmm, now confused Gareth Hmmm. 20. If changing from 15/16" wheels do you need to change the cycle wings and stays to suit??
  21. I'm thinking of changing my current standard Caterham system to a 4-1 see as the packing has now all but gone so now I have a question. When it comes to MOT time I'll refit the old system as it has a Cat fitted and will be required for the test. But As the paking has gone and the exhaust is quite loud (101db) will it pass the MOT or are noise levels not part of the test. Thanks Gareth Edited by - Gareth Harrold on 11 Aug 2001 01:18:24
  22. Opps sorry forgot that bit. Its a 1.6 K Series I can get 4 people in my 7 wink.gif
  23. Can anyone give me an idea of how difficult/easy it is to change the oil pump seeing as I have little experience with engine stuff but don't mind giving it a go. Ta Gareth I can get 4 people in my 7 wink.gif
  24. Chris, the Avo's that I've fitted are working very well. I've had no problems with them so far. The only thing as Arnie mentioned is that the adjustment it a bit on the coarse side and they only come painted black with bare steel thread for the ride height adjustment so they could have a tendancy to rust if to you don't take care of them. But when I bought them the chap at Avo (Nigel I think) said that they may go back to electro plating but he wasn't to sure on that point. Cheers Gareth I can get 4 people in my 7 wink.gif
  25. Oh no! Been on holiday and missed this one. Is it still for sale Dave? How old and and many miles? Cheers Gareth I can get 4 people in my 7 wink.gif
