  1. It does seem like there must be a large number of engine hoists and 41mm sockets dotted around the country that lie 'inactive' for 99.9999% of the time so a register sounds like a great idea. Just trying to think of anything I have that is similarly essential, but largely redundant - must be something in my garage. Anyway, good luck with setting it up - hope I can contribute.
  2. I'd call that a result. I did think QED was a bit obvious but seems like you can be confident that Exon will do a good job at a fair price. Ezzer
  3. Revilla, there's QED in Quorn. I have no experience of them but they have good name. Might be worth a call. Ezzer
  4. Paul, if they are the of the single 'oval' stem type, like my '97 Seven, then your problems may not end with getting them out. Once you've got them out getting them back in can be a nightmare. Getting the end of a squared off stem to slide into a squared off seat tube can be next to impossible. Solution I used was to file/grind a chamfer on the end of the stem to allow it to feed into the seat tube. Makes refitting the headrest a whole lot easier. Mind you, I am surprised that they are difficult to remove as your car is newer than mine so I'm wondering if they are not the same as mine, which has leather seats but I thought both cloth and leather trimmed seats of that vintage used the same seat frame?! The explanation might be that they have gone rusty as the chrome on the stem's is rather thin and soon goes rusty. As suggested previously, some WD40 or release spray might be the answer to that problem. I hope that helps.
  5. Thank you chaps. Had thought about doing as you suggest Duncan but the purist in me would prefer to do it 'correctly' hence my post. Hopefully Jonathan's source will come up trumps. Cheers. Ezzer
  6. I'm struggling to find a source for a 7/16" UNF weld nut. Anybody know where I can get a couple from? Ezzer
  7. Grubbster, that looks neat and simple! Inevitable I guess that there are a load more hose clips but the layout is very straight forward.
  8. Revilla - your suggestion that K series spec is connected to the cooling issues is a thought but I'm inclined towards the random affliction idea. Interesting though if you came up with anything. Meanwhile, anybody care to post some photos of their QED remote thermostat installation?
  9. I think variability in Caterham K series cooling installation behaviour is a good point. My 1997 1.6 Supersport has always been marginal when stationary. It doesn't take long for the fan to cut in if left to idle when standing still and takes ages (if ever) to cut out again unless the vehicle is moving normally. In normal useage this is not a problem and I've learnt to live with it. Fitting the bleed tee in the top hose at the same as fitting silicone hoses has not made any difference. A friend's 1.8K VVC behaves altogether better with a virtually identical layout, being quite happy to idle whilst stationary for several minutes. As I said, I've learnt to live with it but I may pursue the QED option if the ' 3mm hole in the thermostat' (the next step) fails to cure the problem. At least Mark, Christian and Grubbster's experience gives me some hope of finding a solution for my 1.6K.
  10. I've bought a high mounted stop light from S-V-C to fit to my FIA roll bar and the CC harness to go with it. Could somebody give me a heads up on the route for the wire from the stop light down to the LHS rear lamp cluster. It may well be obvious but I would appreciate a pointer or two to save me time. Cheers Ezzer
  11. It's been a fascinating following this 'whatdunit'. Good news it's been solved but disappointed we still don't know the culprit! Back to Mrs Marple for my sleuthing entertainment then.
  12. Another vote for Classic Silicone Hoses. Very helpful if you need something slightly different.
  13. I have a pdf copy of the Sigma, Duratec and Rover variant assembly guide if that's any help. Obviously later than 1996, it's a large file of course (16MB) but if you can solve the conundrum of where to upload it for me then you are welcome to a copy. Ezzer
  14. I'd like the draft reducer if its still available. Cheers
  15. Another for Toyo T1Rs.
  16. Thanks guys for your replies. Given me some food for thought. I was actually wondering if anybody had found a way to mount the PTT switch(es) on the steering wheel - which might pose some awkward packaging issues given how close a steering wheel is to the dash in a Seven, and in my case, the removeable wheel would also be an issue. Nobody tried to do it that way? Edited by - Ezzer Ezzer on 29 Apr 2014 10:34:58
  17. I've got an Autocom SPA/Kenwood TK3301 comms set-up in my car but I'm not a big fan of the vox funtionality and was thinking of installing an Autocom PTT button to trigger the transmit function instead. Has anybody got any useful advice on where & how before I take the plunge? The car a has Racetech removeable steering wheel fitted. Cheers
  18. For those interested, I contacted my local motor factors where I bought the previous Banners from. They didn't have one in stock and thought that size had been discontinued(?!) but did have a couple of cheaper alternatives. One of which is a Moura (who?) that is a straight swap (size, posts etc) which is what I went for because of the following:- 30Ah (same as Banner), 300Amps CCA (Banner only 240A) and a four year warranty, and cost less than £50 (versus £67 delivered Banner best price on the web). Moura it would appear are Brazilian OE battery suppliers to VAG, Ford etc (in Brazil that is) so would seem to be worth a punt, especially with a four year life minimum.
  19. Hi John, Your findings seem to echo mine although I do believe Yuasa do a battery that fits although all I can find right now is one with round posts but there are larger ones with the correct square ones and I'm sure I've seen one a while back that was a straight swap. Their website is not very helpful on such details. Was wondering about the claims that battery conditioners are truly 'fit and forget' but have not heard of anyone suggest they can be overused before. Thanks for your input and advice.

    Chestnut

I know this old chestnut (batteries!) has been done to death but I've searched the archive and can't find a thread that answers the question, which alternative battery can be fitted that doesn't require mods to the OE Banner battery installation, to either the leads/terminals and/or battery tray and retaining strap. Apologies if the answer is lurking there somewhere (I'm sure it is but I can't find it) but I've tried to work out which of the Powervamp/Odysee/Yuasa/Hawker alternatives are an easy alternative. The car is a 1.6K Supersport of 1997 vintage and it's third Banner has just given up the ghost despite usually being on a conditioner when it's not in use. The first two seemed to last a lot longer than the last one so I am inclined to try a different brand this time. Standing back now as I await waves of acute embarrassment 😳 when my ignorance is exposed for all to see.

Danny, From previous trades I reckon £20 is fair for a standard roll bar, plus delivery or collect, which is the tricky bit as I am some distance from you.
  22. Edzup Ezzer

Mmm I should have made it clear that mine is indeed an imperialroll over bar. I'll post a photo later if you like. Ezzer

If you mean a roll over bar then I have a standard non-FIA one that I don't need any more. However, I don't know if there is a difference that matters between an imperial roll over bar and a metric one and I don't know why there should be. Edited by - Ezzer Ezzer on 24 Aug 2013 17:39:10
  24. What roll over bar do you have? I have one for the non-FIA roll over bar which is different to the FIA version. I'll need to dig it out before I comment on its condition but I'm sure it'll be ok. Yours for twenty plus postage. Edited by - Ezzer Ezzer on 23 Aug 2013 13:12:41
