  1. Not if you change the 7" reflectors to these Wipac items (for a mere £45) where the light is directed by the reflector, not the lens, ie as current headlamp optical technology. Altogether with the LED H4 bulb from Classic Car LEDs you have a much more cost effective solution than the Caterham or Highsider options. Ezzer
  2. Go on Frosty, you know you want to.......
  3. Hi Jonathan, If some more canisters should become available, either now or in the future, can you put me down for two canisters please, plus one black bag and one red one. Cheers. Ezzer
  4. I believe induction heater tools are becoming available on the hire market. Might be worth exploring that possibility. All the demos I’ve seen are very impressive and are safer than any naked flame heat source. Ed China and Fuzz Townsend have both demonstrated how effective these tools can be. Ezzer
  5. Tom, I've already acquired some of the hardware so there is a small amount of sunk costs in my plan and I also think the Emerald alternative would be more expensive even if I were starting from scratch. Right or wrong, I've already started down the road to MEMS 3. Ezzer
  6. I’m planning on updating the engine in my ’97 1.6 K Series Supersport from EU2 spec to EU3 (MEMS3) spec so that K-Maps can remap the engine for me. I have most of the hardware (inlet manifold, cam cover etc) sorted but not the most important part, namely the MEMS3 ECU. Can anybody furnish me with the Rover part number for a MEMS 3 ECU to aid me in my search for the correct part. Ezzer
  7. Tom, You'll have everybody tut-tutting if you do as you suggest and drill a hole in the bar and thread the wire through. Frankly, I doubt you'd ever regret doing it that way as the bar (I'm assuming it's the FIA type with diagonals) is probably the strongest part of the car and if ever (dread the thought) it was called into 'service' would survive better than the chassis it's bolted to, but that's just my view. There is an alternative however, which is to bond the cable to the bar with a bead of Sikaflex or whatever. Done carefully this can look ok. Ezzer
  8. Andrew, Your headlamp upgrade sounds just the approach I was looking for. Swap the lens, reflector and bulbs for LEDs and plain lens with the minimum of mods to the existing set-up - i.e. virtually a straight swap. Is it as simple at is sounds? Not that I'm incapable of anything more complicated, but remembering how difficult it was to fit the headlamps (threading wires thu' the stays was a pig) when I built the car I'd rather not have to repeat the exercise. Don't suppose you've got any photos illustrating the performance improvement have you? Ezzer Edited to add:- It might interest anyone thinking of following RAW's lead as I have, to know that the 7" Wipac Freeform reflector units referred to supplied by S-V-C at £72 for the pair (including bulbs?) are also available from Mini Spares without bulbs for £45 delivered a pair. A better deal if you don't need the H4 bulbs.
  9. Well I got my answer but not quite the one I had anticipated. Perhaps I should have checked there first! Last time I looked no such part was available and I just assumed that was still the case. There's a rather obvious lesson there. Thanks Scott. Parts ordered. Cheers Ezzer
  10. Having replaced the rear light clusters with the excellent ‘Just Add Lightness’ LED units and the front indicators with the Wipac Land Rover Defender LED items, I now also want to replace the Perei side repeaters on the front wings with some clear LED units. As I understand that the Perei clear lenses are no longer available and all stocks long since exhausted, I’m wondering what other people are using to complete the change to clear look LED indicators on their Sevens. One thought that did occur to me was to get some clear copies of the existing lenses 3D printed as clear 3D printing material is now available but suspect that this might not be entirely legal (no E mark) nor durable or robust enough for the job. Am I alone in disliking the appearance of the amber ‘warts’ on the front wings enough to want to change them? All the searches I’ve done only produce threads that seem to have closed several years ago with nothing recent. Ezzer
  11. I've not become aware of any downside to having an LSD fitted in my car. The noise 'issue' has not materialised in my car but I do accept that cars vary in this respect (& I've been lucky) and I've certainly not noticed any undesirable handling quirks, or increased tyre wear. So for me at least, the LSD has only added to the fun. Ezzer
  12. When I first built my Seven (1.6K Supersport) nearly 20 years ago(!?), it had an open diff. However, I wasn’t entirely happy with the way it handled in fast bends as it seemed nervous at speed. I also drove a similar spec 1.4K with an LSD which didn’t display the same nervousness at high speed. When the diff started leaking via the half-shafts, Caterham via Derek Moore’s Classic Carriage Company at Mallory Park decided to replace the diff. So I took the opportunity to swap to an LSD at this point as it only cost me the difference rather than the full cost of a new unit. This seemed to cure the nervousness but I don’t have a theory to explain why. Being able to do donuts and the like was a fortuitous additional benefit which I was more than happy to take advantage of. Noise levels were no different to the standard open diff so I considered it a win-win. I don’t claim to have categoric proof that the change of diff improved the handling but it was certainly an interesting and not unexpected beneficial coincidence. Ezzer
  13. I fitted a similar Stebel Nautilus horn several years ago. I bolted in it place of the original horn on the cross member behind the steering rack. Very neat package with the horn pointing downwards to avoid water collection. As above I used the original horn circuit to switch a relay and took a supply directly from the battery, with an in-line fuse very near the battery for protection. It's loud and has worked fine for years. I even have a spare if anyone is interested (for a mutually agreeable sum) which I intended to fit to my daily drive (a VW Golf) but gave up on the idea as installation was going to be a lot more difficult than the Seven. Ezzer
  14. True ventilated discs have radial cavities within the core of the rotor to allow air to cool the discs internally. Cross drilled discs without the internal cavities I described are largely a cosmetic ploy to make the discs look ‘better’, and probably increase pad wear and the grooves would be even worse for pad life, so all things considered I doubt these are worth the trip. Ezzer
  15. I used Classic Silicone Hoses on my K series and have been very happy with them. Do be aware however that in the case of their respective K series 'kits', the Classic one has 8 hoses whilst the SFS kit has only got 5 hoses according to their website. Not entirely sure what the differences might be but I think it maybe the inclusion (or not) of heater hoses. Classic were also very helpful when I wanted a special. Ezzer
  16. At the risk of being a pedant there are a number of differences between the jacks, particularly in lift capacity which may not be crucial for lifting a Seven, but might be important if used to lift other cars. I've got the Arcan which is steel and aluminium construction which makes it heavier than the other two but that's not too important to me as I only use it at home. If portability for racing or track days is important then the Clarke or SGS jacks may suit some users better. I agree they do look similar but I think closer examination will reveal significant differences. For example the Clarke has a roller at the front which gives it a smaller foot print than the other two which can be useful when using axle stands at the front. Pedancy has its uses! Ezzer
  17. Jonathan, Yes I see it without clicking (it's 11.35am, have you've made some changes since you posted at 10.14?) Ezzer
  18. Hi Jonathan, No, I can only see the image in post #5 when I click on the link, if that helps you solve the mystery. Cheers Ezzer
  19. Jonathan, Er I'm sorry but I can't see the image in your post #8, but I can see the image in SM25T's post #5 and yours in post #7. Ezzer
  20. Graeme, "Loans, just outside Troon" - is that where you live or how you're paying for it?
  21. Jack, I hadn't thought of that one! Like I said, "lots of uses". Ezzer
  22. Do you mean this stuff? It's really useful and has lots of uses.
  23. Try this thread here for sources of mesh material. Ezzer
  24. You could try Classic Silicone Hoses. They are very helpful and may be able to help you in your hour of need. Of course things might not be quite as urgent as your local spanner man suggests. He might just be a bit keen to generate some more business .
