  1. I wish I had found out that you lot hide away in here instead of posting in the real forum. The slalom day is great, whilst you may not get hours in the car for your money it is still great VFM as everyone has a good laugh. Even the most nervous of drivers will enjoy themselves by the end of the day. The first slalom day I went on Nemesis got beaten by a 17 year old girl who if I remember correctly hadn't even passed her test. Lee was unlucky last time. I reckon his run they disallowed was penalty free and said so but they gave him the penalty anyway. Still, it made for a great finale to the day (yes better for me in the end but either way it was great fun) As for my run, it was far from perfect. Neil, you say you got warned about going into the 'garage' too fast. Wasn't it you who in doing so took out all the cones down one side of the garage. Neil, I don't practice donuts on petrol forecourts and have no idea where you get that from. It was very slippery and my foot slipped off the clutch so I ended up turning through 180 degrees. The real donut was in the car park at Bury Hill one morning. I couldn't stay though as the workers in the cafe came out looking very unimpressed I am told. Still by then I had drifted the car out to the road. Duncan Edited by - DuncanP on 19 Jan 2005 14:58:07
  2. and you have the neck to take the mickey out of me for getting caught out on slippery petrol station forecourts ❗
  3. That should put an end to any interest then. 😬
  4. Sorry another slught hijack. Angus and you think that's supposed to change when you get married ❗ Duncan
  5. Sid, do you know if this is still available? Duncan
  6. Don't know about the 8" wheels but I recall that the CR500's on my 6" wheels are 175/55x13

Take a leaf out of most BMW drivers handbooks and don't use them.

woolly, to my knowledge everything is fine for now thanks. I have used the car since Christmas and it all seems ok. Thanks for the offer. Duncan
  9. Mike, may be interested over the next couple of weeks if you don't sell them. SWMBO and I are looking for a discovery now. Duncan
  10. SWMBO and I have been having a chat with our bank and we reckon over the next couple of weeks we will be in a position to spend up to about £13k on a discovery. We want the V8 and it needs to be ES spec or higher (which I know is very few models) and less than 50k miles. Ideal colour would be the alveston red but we have seen others we like too. Preferably with a towbar but not essential so if anyone knows of one please let us know. We are near Gatwick but travelling for the right car will not be a problem.

    Ride Height

I had my 7 flat floored late last year and it makes a hell of a difference. Even more so when Woolly checked the rake and found that the front was 20mm higher than the back. I used to think it handled alright with a little understeer until he spent two hours adjusting it for me. Now it turns in really nicely.
  12. Neil, you are welcome to come over and make useful comments like "You didn't want to do it that way". But if you ever refer to Sam as the hounds of the baskervilles again I may have to set her on you. 😬
  13. Sod the kids (I haven't got any for a start) it would be installed for me. 😬
  14. OK so I have succombed to technology and invested in a GPS system for use in the tin top and the 7 with any luck. I know people have installed 12v sockets in their 7's and was wondering how easy it is to do. Questions such as did they install the socket in the dash or elsewhere? How easy is it to install the sockets through carbon fibre as I have not drilled it before? Where did it get wired to in the fuse box? etc, etc Thanks
  15. When my 1.6K started running at that sort of temperature it turned out to be the dreaded head gasket
  16. Fair point Myles, that's me posting and not thinking before writing. Consider me standing corrected. Either way I still wouldn't risk it.
  17. I can't voice a technical opinion but buying a lighter flywheel sounds like a much better idea. Despite the jovial comment about leg loss I know which I would prefer especially as I still want to be walking about in a few years. The other thing is 2.5kg off say a 550kg car (excluding driver) is 0.45% of the weight. Not knowing your build it's difficult to say but I know I could lose a lot more than that without it costing £250. If the lightening work goes wrong you will end up having to pay for the work and then a new flywheel on top of that. From what everyone has said, don't take the chance and save the money if you really are that desparate to have your existing flywheel lightened. Edited by - DuncanP on 30 Dec 2004 14:33:39

    CR500's

Can't give you the weight answers but I have driven on 32's CR500's and ACB10's although admittedly not millions of miles. I found the ACB10's similar to the 32's on dry grip although my car setup has been changed but neither is anywhere near the CR500's in the wet. 32's and ACB's are lousy if you hit standing water and I think the ACB's were worse in the wet than the 32's. CR500's are not as good as the others in the dry but I have had a few people say to me that if you are exceeding the capabilities of most of these tyres on the road in the dry you are pushing your luck. Ultimately at this time of year the ACB's stay in the garage on the second set of rims whilst the CR500's stay on the car. Once the weather dries up I will swap them round.
  19. You will probably get as many different answers as there are owners. I did have a problem with my superlight until I had it flat floored. During the course of having this done Woolly noticed that the rake of the car was all wrong and it was lower at the back than the front. Since that was sorted out I haven't had any trouble. There again I don't charge at speed bumps like I did in my passat. It is always worth treating them with a little respect and you shouldn't have any major trouble.
