  1. The L shape bracket goes onto the car then the bobbin then the exhaust...... well I hope so otherwise I have been driving around with it wrong for some time....... 2. New sender, mine did the same, changed it and all went back to normal.... apparently they go quite reguarly...... I have only changed one in 10k miles but others I have heard of are on their 3rd or 4th.... David GF04RCE is built running and on the road.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! 3. Hi, I had all sorts of problems with the Caterham tool with poppers popping off after a time...... I tried the g-clamp technique but frankly a hammer and a bit of hard floor is just as good. As for the tool I ended up buying some new poppers with their own tool which had a much better end that clasped the other part of the popper. Invest the few pounds in a good tool its worth it.... oh a soldering iron is as good as the proper hole punches for making holes...... 4. Wingnonut.... if it is Cocaine then I may be forced to make a few pennies and find a way of fitting the Radical Powertec V8 in the car to fix the problem........ I drool everytime I think of the lovely Christine (their pet name for the animal they have created)....... 😬 David GF04RCE is built running and on the road.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! 5. Hi, I think i have a coolant leak, I recently changed the temp gauge potentiometer thing on the water rail, and kept wondering why I kept getting smoke and smell from the exhaust wrap on the manifold .... It now looks like I have been dropping coolant onto it... ooops... Question: Are the White flecks of dried white drips around that area on the engine, alternator (touchy subject) indications of the coolant (Red stuff in bottle) or have I just been through a big puddle which has splashed up into the engine bay..... (wishful thinking I think..) Cheers David GF04RCE is built running and on the road.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! He heee!!... pictures here , I am as excited as an excited thing.....
  6. Looks like I get to take the alternator off and send it down to CC for a look see....... Thanks for all your help... David GF04RCE is built running and on the road.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! He heee!!... pictures here , I am as excited as an excited thing.....
  7. Thanks guys.... the alternator does seem to be the right place to start and will give CC a call shortly...... Cheers David GF04RCE is built running and on the road.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! He heee!!... pictures here , I am as excited as an excited thing.....
  8. Hi, Well after a lot of research and a brave step I got hold of a set of Goodyear Eagle Vector EV-2 all season tyres for the seven.... CR500s where getting low and I wanted something that would take me through winter with confidence, including a trip to the alps in February..... (driveability in snow thus important, and these have a central line of snow tread) I could only get 195/50 15'' (CR500s are 195/45 15") but the fit is fine (well just on the fronts) The handling so far in dry and wet conditions is great and with reports that they handle really well in the snow I have alot more confidence.....if things get cold, wet or icy.... I was concerned about driving at speed with the winter tyre portion of tread but they are comfortable and stable..... I had alot of trouble getting recommendations for winter tyres for the seven (CC's comment was that the seven was really a summer car...hmmmmm) but with some research I learn't alot and found Mytyres.com the only place in the UK I could get hold of these, cheap at under £50 each but cost me another £40 to get the set fitted and balanced - this cost varies greatly though. For full winter tyres and the ones that got the best reviews you need to look out for Goodyear GW3's, unfortunately having spoken to Goodyear they are not distributed in the UK.... I shall give an update as I get on with them but so far I am all smiles I have yet to push them really really hard but for everyday touring and driving very happy... 9. ps oh I should have mentioned at that point I got a tow home, so no I am not still stuck on the A14....
  10. Hi, Very confusing one this... so if anyone can help before I call on the techiees at CC I would be really grateful.... to find out why engine cut out.... Three lights on rev counter, the one on the right when I set off this lunchtime was on permanently..... I guessed it was the indicators shorting not working right again so carried on regardless.... I got about 30 miles when the rev counter drops out, engine still going, then the speedo drops out engine keeps going then the engine cuts out... not going anywhere...... luckily I was able to roll into a layby....... pulled the plugs on the ECU, checked all the fuses reset everything but nothing.... windscreen wiper wouldn't go then a bit later they would then gradually the electrics started to come back again..... a little later the whole thing fired up again and I was off...... five minutes later the whole thing happened again..... is it a re-charging issue, immobilisor issue or an ecu issue...... its a 2004 140bhp Xpower, I built and finished it last March (04) so its all pretty new just coming up to 10k...... Any thoughts experiences that might help me solve this one would be really useful as I will be using the car alot over the next few months and need to have confidence in it.... 11. Ok it seems as though CCs view is that our cars shouldn't be driven in the winter months and have no guidlines or recommendations for tyres or set up for winter conditions, most frustrating.... Anyway a question: has anyone fitted higher profile tyres on their seven than the standard recommended, this increases the options of tyres available in particular I currently use: 195/45 15'' Would I get clearance under my front cycle wings with: 195/50 15" If you have done it let me know cheers.... Also what are the other tyre size and rim size sets which are standard on a seven? Any help would be greatly appreciated...... 12. Hey Sven, just ordered some autosocks.... thanks for that.... I am still a bit concerned about the CR500s in cold, very wet and potentially snowy conditions but will just have to take it steady..... time to order a new set though...... 13. There are very few 195/45 15 all season tyres around - Has any body put 195/50 15s on a seven that usually runs on cr500s or has anyone a view of the impact on handling by doing this.... All I want is a good all season tyre that I can tour in over winter, avoids aquaplanning and has a sure foot on snow and slush..... hopefully without having to go down to 14 inch rims 185/60 14s..... I have only ever had CR500s so really don't know what to expect from anything else.... Cheers David
  14. Hey Peter..... Yep I think that is going to be the best route, just have to choose the most appropriate size...... David
  15. Doah!! well I did say i wanted to get through the snow.... 😬 David GF04RCE is built running and on the road.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! He heee!!... pictures here , I am as excited as an excited thing.....
  16. Ok - I am using the Caterham throughout winter including for a skiing trip in the new year, my CR500's on 15' rims are coming to the end of there life and so over the winter I thought I would get some good Wet/Snow tyre but there don't seem to be any 195/45 15' tyres out there unless anyone knows of any..... Any suggestions? I could get another set of Rims -always useful in the future for track days etc........ Is it possible to get a higher profile tyre on my 15' rims and what would the effect be e.g 195/55 15' ? Your knowledge of tyres would be greatly recieved..... 19. Hi ya, Ok this is complicated but as I wanted to exploit the offer from O2 and offset the price of my new Ipaq 6345 all singing all dancing PDA (includes mobile phone) on Monday I will have a brand new boxed Motorola V3 arriving in the post. So I thought before offering it up on Ebay I would check to see if any of my fellow BC'ers were interested. Oh o2 don't latch there phones so any sim will do with this one..... They are currently going on ebay for £320..... David ps next stop Tom Tom bluetooth GPS - no more getting lost yahoooooo!!!! 20. Ammo, very interested in the clinic still havn't started the work on the Duratec aside from pulling a few bits off and working out what everything is....... January sounds great though.... 21. nverona, the price of the radical engine is £16k + vat it really is an amazing bit of kit........ David GF04RCE is built running and on the road.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! He heee!!... pictures here , I am as excited as an excited thing.....
  22. I asked the question about the 6 speed box to Jez Coates at Brands and he confirmed that the 6 speed was the standard one and that they could deal with the Duratec with the ratio in the Diff..... 23. I am guessing that is a long way off the stripped down superlight version.... if you take a look at the standard spec on the Caterham website for the CSR and look at the items included you can see where that 570kg comes from ........ The engine weight I am guessing is on par with the K series as the Duratec in normal form is only a little heavier but with a plastic cam cover they have brought it down a bit, not sure about the other changes and their impact..... No mention of carbon fibre everything and aero screen either..... David
  24. Does Titan have a website or price list for the components they produce, I can't seem to find anything.... Cheers David GF04RCE is built running and on the road.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! He heee!!... pictures here , I am as excited as an excited thing.....

    Harness Questions

I went for the Schroth harnesses from safety devices...... they are engineered really well, very simple to use and adjust including the lovely down pull toggle...... very happy with them.... Oh they also come with the anti-submarining bit which is basically a stress related fold in the strap on one side that reduces the effect of sliding under the waist belt in a crash, removing the need of a 6 point.... which you can still fit to it easily if you wish..... I also went for their press release system which I have been very impressed with..... They also do Hanns device suitable versions and lightweight....... David 😬 ps. Had to cover up the Safety Devices logo with some Caterham pads though....
