  1. Is it recommended taking the car to service centres for the service and book stamp or is it acceptable to do it myself and sign the book... I built the thing I am sure I can change the oil and filter without too much trouble..... Or am I missing something simple..... David
  2. Is it really the case that some places are more difficult to get through than others, or is it just some have more experience with Caterhams than others..... I am based in Cambridge so was probably going to go for Norwich unless anyone can recommend any others..... David
  3. Hi, Are there any particular aspects of the form which need special attention, common pitfalls etc.... that result in the additional questions etc...? David
  4. Excellent.... Thanks guys will start the booking process... David
  5. Hi, Having now finished my build, and for some very silly reasons of my own, I really want to wait until March 1st until I register my car so that I can get/use an 04 number. My question, when the car passes SVA (cross fingers) is; does this become the registration date or can this be applied for post test. ie can I wait a few weeks then register the car to ensure I get an 04 number plate..... Thanks in advance for anyones experience in this.... cheers David p.s The sun is shining I so wish I could hit the road instead of driving the 10metres forwards and back on the drive....... (its getting silly)!!
  6. I found brushing on gave the best finish without all the globby bits building up all over the place... although as this is the first time I have used it, the level of protection may not be that great... but at least it goes where you want it to go... and you don't need to thin it down.... For hard to get places heat up thin down and use the special extension tube thingy with supposed 360degree spray ability... might be a bit more useful if the tube wasn't as rigid as a very very rigid thing... which means that controlling it is not easy.... Good luck... David
  7. oops.... now I have a concern, I guess this is the risk of getting a tube end from the local auto windscreen service....(and I thought I was being clever) not sure if primer is needed with the stuff I got (BetaSeal 2002) .... oh well will leave it a couple of days and try and rip the wings off, I'll avoid running a rover into it to test it but a good pull should be enough.... David p.s have been thinking about mud flaps, shame Caterham don't do any with some nice little logos on the bottom..... front and back.....
  8. Hi, I don't have plans to race so regs are not an issue, although I am a little concerned about the stone rash on my lovely dark blue paint work.. although I am armourfending some of it.... hmmm have to ponder the trade offs before I get messy with the black stuff..... Any ideas how far round is a good distance to improve air flow without trashing the car with stones.... the standard is 8cm from front rim to strutt..... David
  9. Hi, In the process of lining up my cycle wings to attach and couldn't help but think that the air flow would be better if they dipped down a bit lower at the front, pushing more air over the top edge instead of having a bucket effect from inside the arch.... Very interested to know what your views are, if it really makes that much of a difference, as a friend stated, surely Caterham designers knew what they were doing when the set the 8cm distance from the front edge..... but thought I would ask anyway..... before I get busy with the sticky black stuff and the point of no return... Cheers David
  10. Hi all, The Caterham is nearly finished, which means my beloved Audi is to be sold.... ☹️ but as the Caterham will be on the road in January it will make great therapy.... So for the details: Audi S3 Quattro, T reg 1999, Dark Azure Blue, 56,000 miles, Full Audi Service History, black leather recaros, 6 speed, multichanger cd, climate control, xenons and usual electrics etc. Its in excellent condition and a joy to drive... Price: £13,750
  11. Alan7, The Hamerite solution sounds good, but how good is the finish, and do you or anyone else have any ideas what happens to it over time... will look out for it though when I pop to Halfords later.... Cheers.... David
  12. Cheers, Camcoat looks great, just have to find a way of getting the exhaust up to warrington and back now... will speak with them tomorrow.... It sounds like they are the only people that do this, unless anyone knows of anywhere that provides a camcoat type coating ear down south!!! David
  13. Hi, I know the exhaust will darken up as the metal goes off, but I was wondering if there is anything akin to powder coat available that can turn my shiney new exhaust into a black powder coat one, that won't blister off from the heat after the first 50 miles..... Cheers David p.s I think there may have been some discussion on this before but I couldn't find the thread....
  14. Cheers solved..... checked the distance between fan and rad and it was too far away, I had only pushed the fan flush with the spider arms, didn't realise it needed to be pushed right in, all looking fine.... Thanks Pauly....
  15. Its way out, its touching the roll bar with still about a cm to butt up against the rubber bushes.... It looks as though the fan is just too wide or the rubber bushes are not long enough..... D.
  16. Hi, Quick bit of assistance required, just fitting the radiator to the front rubber bushes and the anti roll bar seems to be in the way. Have i made a silly school boy error, I can't believe it is ment to touch it...... Any help greatly appreciate.... Cheers David p.s put engine in on Friday, what a magical moment as the drive shaft connects with the gearbox..... Memorable....!!!!!
  17. Hi, I think I had 2 thicker and 1thinner on one side and 2 thick and 2 thin on the other, but the key is to check its in the center.... Oh and be sure you are measuring it from the right point on the diff and chassis, as I know its stating the obvious but the bulk of the diff is offset so if you measure from the wrong point you could get some interesting results.... Good luck.... hope your enjoying your build..... engine goes in next for me.... David
  18. Solved...... Father came up with the wise words of wisdom........ the trick Is... Rubber lubricant.... then open a vice just wider than the flat section, and whilst levering with the long anti roll bar, with the bush resting on the top of the jaws (not in them) push down and over and the little suckers just pop straight on, real easy..... David
  19. Cheers, will go and try the boiling water option...... and even more rubber lubricant..... David p.s If your using KY is that like some kind of automotive Industrial strength, KY I shall make sure I ask next time I go to halfords....... he heee!!!
  20. Hi all, Build is romping along nicely, but am now stuck, having struggled for a bit trying to get the two rubber bushes onto the rear anti-roll bar, I am sure there must be a trick technique for this.... tempted to heat the little suckers up in the oven but not sure if this will damage them.... Anyway any suggestions advice would be greatly appreciated...... David
  21. Dave that really makes sense, as having seen the gasket go on my parents car, and them being hit by a 2k engine refit, I have been a little concerned about the longevity and warranty on the k series sitting in my garage ready to be installed. However it does seem from previous discussions that the gasket problem on Caterhams seems minimal. which would suggest your theory has some logic.... I am know its been covered in other threads but am I right in thinking Caterham head gasket failure is quite rare, or is it just that there are fewer K Series caterhams that have breached the 30k miles mark.... (no offence to those that have reached above and beyond... I hope to be in ranks very soon ) David
