  1. Neil, its had the DVA magic dust sprinkled on it with Scholar block and forged pistons etc. the upgrade was done a few years back, I picked the engine up off ebay (bargain), just needed cleaning out a bit... The car did 207bhp over at Dave Walkers.... David GF04RCE.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! He heee!!... pictures here.
  2. Ok I am putting back together a k-series engine which I have stripped cleaned etc. but have a couple of questions: 1) VVC head with solid cams (converted) using a distributor, running off an Emerald I have a couple of individual coils is it better to stick to the distributor or go to individual coils? (the coils I have are 1 per 2 cylinder if that is standard and I have the right ones) 2) Gasket set - Is it worth investing in the Payen head gasket? Where is the best source for getting a full set? 3) I am looking at getting a new clutch assembly, this is a 200bhp+ engine would it still use a standard Rover K-series clutch assembly or should I be looking for something specific? 4) How important is it to get every bit of wire wool out of the cylinders... yep cleaned the pistons and have left bits all over, worried if I don't get everything it will cause problems, or will it just blow it all out on the first blat....? think that's it for now! thanks in advance David M Swapping 140bhp for 207bhp k-series project GF04RCE.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! 3. You might want to consider setting the clutch pedal closer to you then the brake and accelerator, there is not much room down there and I found this helped a great deal and made the whole thing more driveable. One thing is for sure you'll be a dab hand at removing and reffitting the pedal box cover once you start adjusting David M GF04RCE.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! He heee!!... pictures here.
  4. Thanks! Will give Dave a shout... GF04RCE.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! He heee!!... pictures here.
  5. Hi there, Well first post for a very long time..... its good to be back Anyway on with the request... I seem to remember Grubbster got an insert from Powerspeed for his 4-2-1 exhaust that helped to reduce the noise from the exhaust which I'm interested in, but I can't find Daves contact details at Powerspeed... any help appreciated. 8. Hi, Ok having a few electrical funnies: Indicator beeper comes and goes (wish it would just go actually) beeping sound (lower than indicator) starting when applying brake... now gone Rev counter has started jumping all over the place Immobiliser is playing up If you have any thoughts what might be happening it would be really useful.... 9. 60mm and going down fast, they should have wear indicators, although the disapearance of the fins should be a sign i guess... 😬 GF04RCE.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! He heee!!... pictures here. Problem is every day seems to be a GT4 day too...!!!

  12. In short: Flat battery, but needed to fix rear brake light problem... Removed pedal cover, but to get to the lower front screw unplugged the big connector under the air filter.... Attached battery to jump start, and fired....... Splutter splutter tried again Splutter splutter tried again tick tick tick tick tick tick tick (in rapid succession) Remembered I had not plugged the connector back together so did that and tried again But all I get is the tick tick tick tick tick sound Is it a simple thing or have I done some damage is my question... and how do I get it to fire up again!! Cheers... David ps getting married tomorrow and new my head wasn't thinking straight to be playing with the car..... Ooops!!! fortunately Amanda's dress is so huge the seven won't be the wedding car....... GF04RCE.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! He heee!!... pictures here. 13. Joe, I have exactly the same problem at the moment...... no brake lights will check the switch tomorrow....... car has been off the road for the last month, as I havn't had the time to chase down the cause...... Seems like another common fault, along with Oil and temp senders..... David GF04RCE.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! He heee!!... pictures here. Problem is every day seems to be a GT4 day too...!!!
  14. Autocom fitted mine, mounts to the underside of the scuttle, although bit fiddly to get to if needs be..... We also ran a couple of permanent sockets into the dash on either side which works really well. Earphones are in ear ones (custom moulded are fab and highly recommended) As for boom mic, I did a lot of research on these. There are some great Goose neck ones out there usually used for aerobic instructors but we went for the standard flexible booms from Autocom, a couple of small cable ties attach them nicely to Wiley X's and you have a great solution without the big cans on your ears..... Easy non shouting conversation between passenger and driver is a wonderful thing!!!! oh and you get the fun of watching your partner make like Annika Rice - Amanda made a great sight running through Paris on the way back from Le Mans last year..... with blonde hair, baseball cap and boom mic......... 😬 Just after taking our cambridge area extreme parking photo entry in front of the Louvre.... 15. Hi, Had my powerspeed exhaust for about a year and exhaust is coming out of where the 4 primary's join the external section (quite common so its said..) any thoughts what the best way of sealing it.... re-attach, use some sealant....... I should just add I am exceptionally happy with my powerspeed even if it is leaking a little.... Cheers David GF04RCE.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! He heee!!... pictures here. Problem is every day seems to be a GT4 day too...!!!

  19. What is the back depth limit on a seven, and what are the implications of the Offset distance to handling..... just wondering if there is some standard thinking on this..... is maximum back depth better than a positive offset or is it just about giving you as wide a track as possible or just as wide a tyre as possible...... Ok confusing myself now!!!! Basically what makes the real difference to a good rim and a bad rim spec? Cheers David GF04RCE.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! He heee!!... pictures here. Problem is every day seems to be a GT4 day too...!!!
  20. Can't remember who did it but there are some examples of very tidy metal bar solutions connecting the two stubbs that make something similar to a mini bumper, that would be my choice over the black rubber stubbs....... Doesn't really answer you question though sorry David
  21. My only advice is: - Don't watch the clock, take your time and if its not going righ WALK AWAY FAST!!!! and come back later.... - Do a complete inventory and I mean complete, especially before you start a section of work - Follow the order set out in the manual its not perfect but it makes sense and you can be sure you don't miss anything..... - The bits that take time are the finishing off bits and if you want things looking really good.... oh and don't skimp on preperation...... Enjoy.... want to build another one, but can't ever imagine selling GF04RCE David ps Have access to someones build photos.... really helps speed things along and sanity check stuff.... (thanks Grubbster..... 😬) GF04RCE.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! He heee!!... pictures here. Problem is every day seems to be a GT4 day too...!!!
  22. I've tried it all and have had a series of failures from probably not using the black stuff properly to the powder coat on the stay going rusty and breaking away from the stay, should have filed it off first... Doah!!! anyway ended up getting the factory to do it properly for me.... did a great job and touch wood no problems so far..... Oh didn't get on with the fastners better to just use the gunk direct from wing to stay..... IMHO Its a real pain with they detatch scarping along the road still hanging on by the repeater wire.... not to mention slightly embarrasing.... David GF04RCE.... every day is a Caterham day!!!! He heee!!... pictures here. Problem is every day seems to be a GT4 day too...!!!
  23. Could you use 45mm THB, I thought they were usually 43mm for the K-series and what would the effect be...? Sorry Nifty think I'll pass on those....... stick them on ebay.... they'll go for at least £200 minimum......
  24. Ok starting to sound like a stuck record about the cost thing, time to accept it..... Dave you should see me later in the year, I have a proper k4 casting head this time for you to weave your magic..... and will go for the direct to head THB etc..... David
  25. Visited Hyperion at the weekend and just developed an unhealthy obsession with them Yep spoken with DVA and know what I will likely do when funds permit, I just can't help thinking throttle bodies are alot of money for what they are..... David
