  1. I haven't seen a solution that doesn't require full screen, sidescreens and a full width roll bar. The only other option is motorcycling gear, but the interior will get soaked.
  2. Even if you can stop all leaks, it is worth having holes in the floor in case you get caught in a cloud burst and can't put the (half)hood up.
  3. I just drilled 1/4" holes at the back on each side. In bad weather, I remove the plugs and just let the water out. Even if everything is sealed water will get in though the heater vent in bonnet.
  4. I always change my oil and filter after a track day. It doesn't cost much doing myself and seems a good idea to prolong engine life. Duncan

    Piaa Horns

Hi Kingsley, I replied to your message, but though I would post here as well for general information. As Garth and Piers said they will run fine on the original wiring and are louder and lighter than the original horns Here is a link to a post by someone who actually tested the current draw on these horns: http://www.fjrforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=114732 Apparently both together only draw 5.5 amps Duncan
  6. If you don't find one at a sensible price, I am running my 2011 Sigma 125 on a £28 Polo radiator. It has outlasted the Caterham original and two Radtecs! Took quite a lot of ingenuity to fit (at an angle with custom made brackets) but I'm using the original fan and never had any problems with over heating. Duncan
  7. I always add a spot of paint so I can check they haven't moved too.

    Tyre Choice

I swapped from a021 to Rain Experts about five years ago, and found them a very good substitute. There is less grip, but plenty of warning when near the limit. On my 125 they are good fun and have been very safe in some really foul conditions. I have just replaced them with a new set of Rain Expert 3s but haven't had a chance to try them yet. Duncan
  9. When I fitted a new screen, the rubber strip was different to my original. I spent ages trying to get it to fit, but never did manage it. In the end, I removed the old strip and fitted it to the new screen and it was really easy to get a perfect fit.
  10. If you don't have any luck polishing them, you could try the option AntonyH suggested here: https://www.lotus7.club/blogs/better-side-screens-half-doors-seen-lowflying-april-2015 I've modified mine and visibility is much better for me as I sit a long way back in my S3. They won't fit easily if you use the full hood, but can be made to fit Ok with a half hood. Duncan
  11. The connector has a plastic button that when at rest is flush with the surface of the connector. With the hose removed it is easy to push in with a thumb nail. Unfortunately the end of the fuel rail is designed to limit access to this in situ. I made my own tool from a strip of 1.5mm steel sheet about 3 inches long and about 1/2" wide. I curved it so it fitted up beside the fuel hose, and then bent a small lip on the end at 90 degrees towards the hose connector. Once I'd figured out which side the button was on, it was then easy to slide it up and pull out the lower end pushing in the button, until the hose slipped off easily.
  12. No, this happened in the summer. I've never seen it before, and the bottle claimed it met the Dot4 criteria.
  13. Rain expert v a021 in the dry = less grip, softer sidewall (I run the tyre pressures a couple of psi higher to compensate) so a bit more squirmy but better ride and less noise. With 125bhp I find the grip/power balance good fun with plenty of warning near the limit. If you are worried by laps times, look elsewhere.
  14. Touring in the UK, I've had to drive through some flooded roads in summer too If you're looking for a tyre that gives plenty of warning before it lets go, and will be safe in any road condition (excluding ice/snow) then buy Rain Expert 3s. I've just ordered a new set, as I really liked the last lot. They're good value and mine have survived several track days and handling events.
  15. I fitted the delay buzzer from ebay linked to by mark_w. It was really easy to fit and has been excellent. Most of the time it doesn't come on, but is nice and loud when i do forget

    Airchamber

Just in case you are interested, if the fans don't work, they are just PC fans available from Maplin for £5 and are easy to fit
  17. I just bought Castrol dot 4 to change my brake fluid. Last time I used newly purchase Comma fluid and it has been fine. However, I noticed that while comma just seal the fluid with a normal screw cap, the Castrol fluid had a foil seal under the cap that had to be broken, so I would trust that more if I kept it for a year or two. By the way, never use Carplan brake fluid, I had some that I had bought on holiday only a month before, and used it to change my clutch fluid. After a few weeks, I removed the cap to check the level and found crystals all over the cap and the fluid looking very cloudy. I changed it immediately with some Comma fluid and I find it looks much better after a year than the Carplan did after weeks, and have never had the crystals again. Duncan
  18. I have a set of Minators that are losing air, and I have a good look around for cheap replacements. No luck, like you say cheap steel wheels are all 5.5" wide maximum. Weller wheels used to be cheap but are now damned expensive. The cheapest new option I could find was: JBW 6.0 x 13 Minilight et23 £76.16 inc vat http://www.johnbrownwheels.com/products/jbw-60-x-13-minilight.html I think your best bet is to keep an eye on here and ebay and see what comes up. I decided, I will get my wheels refurbished which is £70 a wheel as the 14" JBW is more like £90 a wheel, and I am hoping that the refurbished finish will be better than the paint they came with as new. Duncan
  19. Good to hear its running On my Sigma car, the idle issue was just the butterfly closing completely, there is a very small allen screw on the Caterham throttle body to adjust this. Duncan
  20. Not at all surprised, I'll carry on paying other clubs/companies for my trackday fun. Duncan
  21. The catalyst will help the packing in your silencer last a lot longer.

    Half-hoods....

I wouldn't have the Soft Bits half hood without the roll up cover it comes with. It clips around the roll bar supports holding the rear straps securely, and sits on top of the boot cover. l can unfold the halfhood after just undoing two clips and without disturbing the boot cover.
  23. I agree with Ian, the club already has the most prescriptive rules for track days of any provider in the UK, and reading between the lines, I suspect we'll be moving further down that path. I still consider trackdays to be no more likely to be dangerous than spirited road driving. Duncan
