  1. As you can see on the thread, I followed Richard's advice and I have been completely happy with my brakes ever since Duncan
  2. I can't remember the hex drive size, but access is much easier from above with the boot floor removed. I always findc the plug is very tight to undo. Duncan
  3. It all depends if you want to go faster or have more fun. My S3 has standard shocks, narrow track, and hasn't been set up apart from the post build check and I fitted an LSD (diff had to come out anyway, so why not? ). On the road, the car is easily fast enough without an LSD and with standard shocks. My off road events have all been untimed events where having fun has been the priority, so donuts and power oversteer has been great fun. I haven't encountered understeer at all, but that's probably the way I drive. If I was into sprinting or more serious circuit driving, then I know I would be best spending money on driving tuition, then set up, then shocks and last on an LSD. As with all upgrades, I suspect you know in your heart what you really want, and it doesn't actually have to make much sense. After all, any sensible person wouldn't buy a Seven Duncan

    Hinge Pin

One of mine came loose, so I drilled through it and the plastic hinge and used lockwire to secure it. Duncan
  5. The one I bought was correct in size and number of flutes, but it was too tight. I had to strip all the paint off the inside and sand it until it just fitted a new filter. Works ok now, but quality appears to be variable. Duncan
  6. I think I will copy your design, and give it a go Duncan
  7. That does look neat I take it you didn't notice any obvious increase in noise/vibration after the change. Duncan
  8. I can't offer advice, but I am very glad you survived unharmed! Good luck with sorting out repair/replacement Duncan
  9. I've put nearly 40,000 miles on a Titan plate diff. Donuts at Dunsfold were very easy, very enjoyable on a car limits day and the traction in bad conditions on road is much improved. As with all lsds you have to watch out for total loss of traction with too much power, ok when you expect it, but not so easy when it is some mud on the road. Noise wise, the odd clunking noise is nothing compared to all the other sounds from a Seven. I fitted mine on the advice of Phil at Road and Race and it hss been my best upgrade. Duncan

    Oil Filter

I have always marked the end of the filter, and noted where the mark is as the filter seal touches the sealing plate. I then tighten the filter 3/4 further. This is pretty tight by hand if you have decent access. On my Seven, getting access to turn it by hand is a pain, so I have bought one of those tools that grips the top of the filter and allows me to use a 3/8 ratchet to turn it 3/4 of a turn. Duncan
  11. If you can find the correct grade of bolt but extra long, it is easy to cut them to length, and as long as you put some copperslip on the ends corroding isn't really a problem. Duncan

    Tyre Size

I doubt 205s would fit under standard front cycle wings. Duncan
  13. Good videos, you had a great day for it too Duncan
  14. Just fitted Dayco to my Sigma, I'm glad I didn't go for the Continental now. I was looking for Gates but couldn't find them anywhere other than Ebay, and I always worry about fakes on there
  15. Sorry to see that, I've never really trusted belts, but some manufacturers have managed to make chains unreliable too! Duncan
  16. A G clamp will work too Duncan
  17. That does look very bad for such a new car I had some flaking powder coat under the steering rack mount on mine during this winter inspection/service, but it is 8 years old and it only affected a small area. That doesn't look like it has adhered to the steel at all. Duncan
  18. I have 60 profile on 14s and run 19 psi cold as I noticed more movement in photos at a track day. Try 20 psi. I know what you mean, I had an Elan with 80 profile tyres and used to put the tyre pressures up 8psi over the Lotus recommendation on a dry track day. Duncan Ps. They aren't as good a a021r obviously, but good in all weathers and safe in my experience.
  19. I've been running Uniroyal Rain Expert 3s on a Sigma 125 and it is fun, predictable and safe even in standing water. They even hold up ok on a track day, although you won't be the quickest. Reasonably priced too Duncan
  20. We did the Nc500 a couple of years ago, and we drove clockwise. On the single track north of Ullapool it was amazing how many mobile homes were coming the other way, as they almost all seemed to be going anti clockwise. It worked well for us as the stopped at a passing place as soon as they saw three Sevens coming and we'd just zoom past waving and smiling thanks . We only got held up when the mobile bank heading north towards Durness wouldn't let us past. Duncan
  21. I used double sided tape for 8 years, but got fed up half ripping it off with my trouser leg in my tiny garage! This winter I drilled a couple of holes and used white plastic number plate bolts for extra security Duncan

    Loctite 243 source

I bought some in Robert Dyas last week. It was only the small tube but I was impressed to see the proper stuff in our shopping centre.
  23. Good to hear you've got it sorted Duncan
  24. Welcome It's usually easier to find problems when the lights are on, so that good. As both brake lights are on, I suspect the switch is the cause. It might need adjusting, mine was coming on as I accelerated soon after I built my car. If it has the really rubbish plastic switch in the pedal box, I suggest spending a little money and swapping to a much more reliable metal switch available from Car Builder Solutions. Duncan
  25. Thanks Tom, I haven't checked the tension as the spring loaded tensioner is supposed to apply the correct tension to the belt before the bolt is tightened. I made sure I turned the engine over with the tensioner free to move and checked the timing before and after locking the tensioner in place.
