Just repaired the same leak on my k engine from flange of water rail to head, when removed found the water rail flange was not flat, had it surface ground and replaced, also the cap screws were not tight, Also before refitting bolted back rail by single support screw and feeler gauged gap, found I had to file about 0.020" off the support lug which was similar to amount ground off. Chris
  2. My 04 plate R300 K takes along while to fire up when cold, but I just hold starter on until it starts to fire and then after a few more cranks will start. I dont touch throttle. Chris
  3. Chaps, another query I have is regarding the connection of the hose from water rail to heater and from heater to thermostat housing. Looking at an old assembly guide from Caterham, they have a error on page 88 which contradicts how they should be connected. It shows a picture of inlet hose at top and outlet hose at the bottom for the connection to the valve to the heater. Wheras the words say the other way round. So i've started looking at pictures of engines and most of them appear to be connected with top hose going to thermostat housing and water rail connected to bottom hose as the inlet. (only thing is if the heater rad works like main engine rad, heat at top cold at bottom, in theory the interior heater should be connected same way in at top ?. anyone know right way ?
  4. Niffy, No I'm not going down PRRT route, decided to just do coolant mod, also decided to change thermostat to 74 deg C (R500) model. Had 88 deg c type fitted, without bleed hole and little valve. Chris
  5. I'm doing the coolant mod and decided to change thermostat at same time, that's when I noticed cracking on the J pipe, other 2 rad hoses changed last year, so just want to change the one hose at moment. But realise that they may start to crack again soon. So will look to change to silicon next year. Thanks for the offer for second hand pipe, mine's not too bad so will use that again if I have to. Chris
  6. Caterham are out of stock of the hose that goes from thermostat housing to the large submarine pipe to the rad. Any one know where I can buy the right hose (rubber). Regards Chris

  14. I had the sender replaced by Caterham just under a year ago and as you say, its starting to give iffy readings, so after reading all the posts about it I have decided to replace it. You give another option which I shall consider. Thanks for the info.

I used PPG and they cut around the rear stone guards, came to my house to fit the kit, you can get different areas covered. They worked out to be around / cost of armourfend Regards Chris
  19. New to Caterhams, can anyone tell me the purpose of the clear plastic bottle that is fitted near the radiator and is connected by hose to top of cam cover, it also has a high level pipe which drains to waste. I have done around 500 miles over last couple months and have just noticed about 20mm on fluid depth in bottle, of what looks like water (condensation) slightly oily ?
  20. Went to Plough last night and Mick drove the car (well known builder of Caterhams) He commented that is not too noisy compared to others. so looks like I will just have to get used to it and wear ear plugs Chris
