  1. I also went down the Zetec route (fitted by James Whiting) and have never regretted it. Better car all round, more ultimate power - 175bhp in basic unmodified trim - and loads more grunt. Col
  2. Only worth it with full hood. Without or with half hood it clears in second on the move.
  3. I also run a Raceline 2ltr Blacktop Zetec, fitted with 45 dcoe Webers from the old crossflow (although modified to 5 progression holes by Northampton MS). The engine was fitted bt James Whiting. Engine bog standard, and puts out around 165bhp. Utterly reliable, with lots of low level grunt as opposed to the top end of the crossflow. Ideal for road use and touring. I really think i should have gone for fuel injection at the same time, but was talked out of it. Col
  4. Another who misses the Yokohama 48's! I have had Uniroyal Rainmasters fitted all summer, including the clubs trip to Spain / Portugal. I just use the car on the road, and they have been fine. The recommendation seemed to be 20psi, so thats what they are at the moment. The two main differences are the tyre profile; there is obviously less contact with the road as the profile is less 'square', and the side walls are definitely softer, making for a more comfortable ride. If I could afford it, i would have the Rainmasters fitted in the winter, and perhaps a set of Toyo's for the summer, but as it is, the Rainmasters seem to be a good all round choise. Col
  5. Amazing how coy people are about what they pay. I had a bump last year that smashed the nose cone. New one fitted by me. As the car is all one colour, no stripes, the garage recommended the bonnet be sprayed as well to blend in. Quoted price £600.00. The garage saw the shock on my face, but it still cost £450.00, no questions asked. The colour is Lotus Pacific blue, and both bonnet and nose were two packed, and oven dried. Col

  7. Also agree with Midas. A positive from the passenger seat is the ride. The Uniroyals are much more compliant over bumps. Col
  8. its a bit like me going up to a bar - I seem to wear an invisible cloak! I would love to 'reply', but my car of twelve years has been spotted just the once (in Petersfield); and yes I did reply. And I use my car all year! Col
  9. I have traveled the Southampton - Torquay / Exeter route since my teens; first in a 997 Anglia, and until I retired, for family (Torquay) & work (Exeter). Its all about timing! The best and quickest route is definitely the Honiton - Dorchester A35. I used to do this every week in less than two hours, but I did start at 5am. Yes, it gets heavy on the single carriageway bits at rush hour - so don't travel then; easy really! I always hated the racetrack of the 303, and it just seems longer I see you are intending to travel during 'the holiday period', so take my advice; leave early and chill when you get there. Col
  10. I am about to replace my Yoko 185 / 60 / 14's as they are now not available for road use. I have 6, two with Minilite style wheels, and all are just about road legal. They would do for track days or whatever. If anyone is interested, and rather than pay to have them environmentally disposed of, they can be made available free if collected. Let me know soon though.   11. A word of warning! Be careful not to overload the bracket. The spare wheel carrier is only held in place by two bolts. one of ours snapped in deepest Italy. It was only that I had run the straps around the roll bar that saved the other one. Col
  12. I am just going down this road seeing as the Yoko AO48's I have always used are not now sold for the road. I am also going the Uniroyal Rainexpert 3 route. My local tyre supplier has advised Black Circle on line, who can supply them cheaper than they can buy them, with fitting included in the price of just over £50.00. (185 / 60 / 14) Col
  13. Mine has lived outside for the whole twelve years of my ownership (Terraced house SM25T). I have had several different types of cover including Caterham, but have settled on the Cover Zone Stormforce. Its a tailored fit, and seems to do the job. I did spray the latest when new with tent water proofing, that also has UV properties as the car faces directly south. I would recommend this as it certainly sheds water better than an untreated one. They come with a two year guarantee. It is also flexible enough to remove during cold weather; I use the car all year. A thumbs up for Cover Zone by the way. I previously mistakenly bought the Monsoon, which is for summer only use that de-laminated. CZ replaced it without quibble, just charging postage. Col

  15. The two Minator wheels & AO48's recent posted for sale, seems to have lost its text! I was thinking £70.00 or offers for the pair. Wheels not perfect, but not bad, tyres just about legal. More photos if interested. Collection only, but could run them up to Handcross. Col

    I am also looking to change my AO48's to 'something' There was a thread championing Uniroyal Rainmasters; would these be a viable alternative to any of the above? Col
  18. Seems to be a paper over the cracks job. Wouldn't sorting the problems be a better option - they are not meant to leak!
  19. But why bother? Taking the rad out is a couple of jubilee clips, four bolts - and a bucket. And loads of room left. Col
  20. Just chucked in the boot, in its 'bag', and in a plastic bin liner. Only used in extreme conditions. The 'rotor' effect drenching the inner screen generally signals its use. Col
