  1. Will Would like to buy a jacket some time in the future. The Caterham 7 heater is not very effective and adds weight. Thanks for all the info on heated jackets. HPC7 . . . Cosworth engineering back in fashion
  2. Also interested in new tyres - what do Caterham 7 fit on these rims? HPC7 . . . Cosworth engineering back in fashion
  3. Chaz Are these the leather seats sold around 1991, which now cost £500 or £1000 each? The have removeable lumber support areas and very comfortable Can't remember who they are made by Chris
  4. May not apply with a caterham 7 - when i did the same thing with a Lotus 7 series III it was possible retrieve the spring by poking a finger into the drain hole at the bottom of the gearbox and remove the spring. Good luck
  5. In 1991 Caterham were fitting a hydraulic brake fluid pressure switch which had poor reliability. James Whiting changed it for a different make and no problems since HPC7 . . . Cosworth engineering back in fashion
  6. There are some roads where the seven is too powerful ... A 7 is good at handling corners - not so good at crests and dips . . . being airborne limits the top speed. HPC7 . . . Cosworth engineering back in fashion
  7. M25 Yes spotted the other mechanical engineering and B&B service. There is a bulk buy opportunity, I believe, where 5 or more members use the service at once
  8. Norman Is this a new service your offering upgrade the 7 plus B&B A fully stocked garage plus many years experience available when we run into difficulties . . . this sounds an ideal arrangement. Does anyone provide this service in the UK? HPC7 . . . Cosworth engineering back in fashion
  9. Works well with Windows XP Pro and Firefox 3.0.13
  10. Use the battery isolator from Demon Tweeks here With the battery disconnected during the winter will just about start the car without jump leads in early Spring. Very easy to fit and useful where no electricity supply in the garage.
  11. Roger Wooden blocks are a pain but cost next to nothing. Highly recommend a collection of large wooden blocks (ex railway sleeper) and 4 Halfords' car ramps which give more height and very easy to work under the car or less back breaking when working from above. The low tech solutions work best
  12. Currently have a Garmin nuvi 360, which is brilliant, used in the 7 and tin top. Covers europe, provides a blue tooth link to the sat nav and sometimes used on foot in London. Speed accurate at 500+ mph in an aeroplane, altitude not so good. The other main benefit are speed camera warnings - so far has prevent at least one fine - and made aware of speed cameras when the sun your face, being distracted by another 7s approaching in the opposite direct. Call that 6 points saved so far . . . say £60 Even though not specified as waterproof have driven in torrential rain with the garmin getting covered in water. The cheapest near equivalent is the nuvi 1240 at around £160 - excluding a blue tooth connection for hands free mobile use. Also available with a larger screen . . . Its possible to save £160 during three years, no speeding fines, arriving at interviews on time, getting watches services at a specialist rather than via the high street shop . . . 13. Surprised the advertisement does not mention a Duratec engine although 'obvious' from the car's age.
  14. Would suggest a multi-strand thin piece of cable which will flex rather than a single strand of wire which will flex and brake . . . again. The tricky part is finding some more cable similar to the one that broke. HTH The easy answer is buy a new cable - or try you suggested approach and see if it works as temporary measure.

  16. Arnie Look forward to seeing the next project completed, a single letter and digit were sufficient! The replicas have also become famous and attract a premium price, with a matching engine it will be amazing HPC7 . . . Cosworth engineering back in fashion
  17. John It was good to meet at The Squirrel on Saturday. With increased engine power you car will be equivalent to an R400 (I assume you have already worked that out) . A standard HPC with heavy items like leather seats and a windscreen powered by 175 bhp on carburettors is equivalent to an R300. Enjoy, look forward to seeing the upgraded engine Chris HPC7 . . . 18. Thanks everyone, I try the items suggested.
  19. Nigel thanks. I'm surprised with all the highly personalised paint schemes people we are not also adding colour to bonnet catches although it seems easier with aluminium than steel ☹️
  20. Hi Would like to change the chrome bonnet clips to a black colour. Have dipped items in a very hot 'salt peter' solution many years ago which produced a black finish. The dpcars web site (http://www.dpcars.net/) talks about having some new components anodised which are now a nice black colour! What's the best way to convert chrome plated bonnet clips to a black finish? Thanks for your help
