  1. Could it be the immobiliser relays vibrating and causing the engine to cut out? I had this on my new 310R at 5,000 rpm. For me it felt like losing power briefly before continuing to accelerate. I think Williams changed how they were mounted or added some foam or something to fix it.
  2. I actually use one of these with my (very slight) 12 year old daughter and 4 point harnesses. I have the seat pulled all the way forward, and with her sitting on this it means the harness can be tightened enough.
  3. Yes - I didn't have one on my Elise and had to use a battery conditioner in the garage. Having a master switch is so much less faff. Just remember to take it with you when you park anywhere so nobody nicks it and leaves you stranded!
  4. I turn my master switch off and remove it every time I get out of the car. I also don't use a battery conditioner for the winter lay-up. So far, both times its been laid-up for 4 months, and both times it's started first time in the spring.
  5. Sounds like an airlock if it's varying that much when cold. If it goes up to the top when hot I'd say it's likely to be a faulty cap. I think it can vary between min and max if you compare cold to hot when working correctly.
  6. Plenty of people sit too low in my S3 with lowered floors.
  7. It's your guide I've been using to check the preload Chris, so thank you for writing it
  8. So following on from last year's results (mileage 2,400 and 1 track day: 42 lb.ft preload), I've just repeated the checks: Mileage 4,500 and a further 3 track days: 42 lb.ft preload again So far then, road and track driving in my car doesn't seem to be causing an issue. it'll be serviced in March (along with it's first MOT) after winter lay-up, so I think I'll get the diff oil changed then too as a precaution.
  9. The clear lenses are E-marked, but one thing I've never understood is why they're not fitted to the car until after IVA. New cars with clear lenses and LED bulbs (like mine) come with the standard lenses and lights in the boot! Does that imply that somehow the factory clear lenses with LED bulbs don't meet regulations? FYI, the JAL high level brake light is E-marked (so on the back of my car I now have 3 E-marked lights, one of which is at least bright enough to see in daylight).
  10. Every track I've driven at (Castle Combe, Goodwood, Brands Hatch, Silverstone) with either C&L7C or LOT has required a full face helmet in an open top car.
  11. I bought a Bell Sport 5 as my first trackday helmet. https://bellracing.eu/sport5-1.html Bell aren't the cheapest brand, but they're very comfortable. I think it's recently been replaced by the GT5 Sport... https://bellracing.eu/gt5-sport.html I think I tried some on at Merlin Motorsport but ended up ordering from Advantage Motorsport. Either way they're widely stocked so you should be able to find somewhere to try before you buy.
  12. I didn't ask which one they replaced it with, but the new one still has sealant.
  13. To round off this thread... The issue remained after bleeding the system and fitting another cap, and was subsequently diagnosed as an intermittent seal between the cap and the expansion bottle. Williams did a pressure test and a sniffer test to rule out any other problems, then changed the expansion bottle under warranty. It's been fine on the road for the last month and also at today's trackday. So no need to modify the system
  14. I'm leaving my factory clear lenses and bulbs in place, but fitting a hich level rain light to augment them. https://justaddlightness.co.uk/product/caterham-7-high-level-led-third-brake-light/
  15. I've started checking pre-load as part of pre-hibernation checks each year. After 2 years (and one track day) it was 44 lb.ft so we'll see what it is at this year (after another 3 track days) in a few months...
  16. Was always standard on R packs...
  17. I found that Mintex 1144 produced an unbearable amount of dust when I had my Elise, so used EBC Yellowstuff (I took it on track a fair bit). Out of interest, what are the standard pads that Caterham fit on new cars now?
  18. Agreed - an excellently run day with loads of instructor availability and a very grippy / half empty track
  19. I'm actually going to get Williams to look at it as it's only done 3,700 miles, and whilst it is out of warranty, it does still have the little tamper-proof Caterham tag wired through the cam cover and timing belt cover bolts on the intake side at the front showing that it's still factory sealed. I'd have hoped that after modifying the engine to 310 spec at the factory, Caterham could have fitted the cam cover so it didn't leak after such a short amount of miles/time.
  20. I've heard other people mention RTV sealant?
  21. Cheers Tom. I'm not sure I know what the difference between a seal and a gasket is - Caterham calls it a gasket in the link I posted What type of sealant does it need? Thanks.
  22. Hi All, I've noticed a small oil weep between the cam cover and the head at the front the engine on the exhaust side of my 2020 310R. Torquing the bolts to 10Nm improved it a bit, but I don't want to overtighten them. How easy is it to change the cam cover gasket? Is it just a case of detaching the breather and electrical connections, unbolting, fitting the gasket into the cam cover and putting it back together? Is this the one for the 310? https://caterhamparts.co.uk/other/6736-cam-cover-gasket-sigma-ta-engine.html I'm assuming there's no issue doing a track day in a week if I can't get it changed beforehand? Ta.
  23. https://www.williamspartsshop.co.uk/track-day-2022-171-c.asp This was a great event last year. Organised by Williams Caterham and in support of St Peters Hospice in Bristol. I recall that some people found that Footman James and Classic Line wouldn't cover this event last year due to it not being run by the club. A-Plan and Adrian Flux were fine about it though. Worth checking before you book if you're unsure.
