  1. Very interesting Gary and they are half the price of Avon ZZS 195/50/15. Did you notice any grip/cornering difference? regards Piers
  2. What is the effect on the speedometer from going from 45 to 50 section tyres? Piers
  3. Temple Cloud I suspect you are not aware that Roger King is the Cross Flow Guru. He's probably built more Kent engines for 7's than most. His advice is very sound. Piers
  4. My old 1985 car had a factory fitted small ribbon of sponge like self adhesive material that ran under the bonnet where is rested on the top chassis rail. It kept the catches taught. It also had a large rubber strip on the top of the nose cone. See photo Piers
  5. Completely agree with Ian. Don't do it with a high pressure jet. Piers
  6. I have 195/45/15 on the standard Caterham 10 spoke wheels. I tried 195/50/15 and it fouled the front wheel bracket that holds the carbon fibre arch. I am not sure what the answer is, as I will eventually have that bridge to cross, as I have a spare set of tyres and wheels. Piers
  7. If your car has an LSD, do not allow it to be put on the rolling rear brake test. It will damage the LSD. Find a friendly mot test station that will allow you to sit in the car and operate the controls. My old test centre were more than happy for me to do this, as they were wearing size 10 boots with toe protection. No way they could drive it, plus they were big blokes. Piers
  8. I had a starting problem that ended up being a bad earth on the ECU. It took a long time to find, but in the end, the ECU earth was moved to the chassis. Where Caterham had connected it was not really very suitable. Piers
  9. Gary. You passed Imelda and I on the M20 this afternoon. We couldn't catch you to give a wave and we were in Imelda's Fiesta, so you would not have recognised the car anyway. Your 7 was looking very nice. Piers
  10. This is a photo of a factory build 1985 Super Sprint. The electronic ignition unit can be seen under the steering shaft to the left of the air inlet filter. Hope this helps you Piers
  11. Jonathan - Your right about modern engines, but the Ford Xflow cannot be considered as modern. It will have twin Webber 40 DCOE's in Super Sprint form. Piers
  12. As I understand it, 95 Ron has 10% Ethanol, while Super Unleaded being 98/99 Ron has 5%. I would only ever use Super Unleaded in your 7. The 10% Ethanol will rot all your rubber seals. Piers
  13. Derek (and Sean before him) will quickly become your new best friend. He will help you with the confusing bits and send you the inevitable missing / incorrect parts as you need them. If you are doing your build at weekends its good to spend the last bit of Sunday going over what you plan to do the next time and send any queries request for parts straight over to Derek - that way you should be good to go next time you get into the garage. Enjoy your build.
  14. Well done Matt. Its worth putting in quite a lot of petrol for the first start too (at least 15 ltrs from memory).
  15. Change the sensor Al - bet yours is still on its first Glad Portofino was good too.
  16. Hi Ken, Guess it depends on how many times you tried to start it before giving up on the dud - would have pumped fuel around whilst struggling and if you'd pumped the pedal............................just a few thoughts from my experience.
  17. Nothing received here either - had a holding message from Josh 21/8 indicating delivery a week later.......and then checking the order in the earlier post noticed Antony got his? Perhaps he's gone back to Uni?
  18. Its fuse 4 on my car (2011 Duratec). Roadside fix is disconnect sensor (or simply cut and isolate the cables to it as the thing is toast anyway once its blown the fuse and killed the car!), replace fuse and use satnav as speedo! Having done this a few times now I can get going again in about 15 mins
  19. Hi Malcolm, for it to have lasted that long is a massive achievement! My car is 5 years old and is on it's 6th sensor - although not cheap to buy from CC (£67 incl p&p for the last one) it is clearly a cheap part that is not in the ideal position given its fragility. The guys above have covered the adjustment piece - i can send you the workshop notice from CC if you need it? Best, Garry

Well hello! It was a great road for us too . Garry
  21. Hi Marcus, Just a small bit of admin..................................how do we pay? Cheers Garry
  22. Thanks Simon, that makes it nice and clear. Whilst I had the wheels off to clean the car (again!) I made a small adjustment which seems to have cured it for now - will try your mod next time I have the wheels off. Best Garry
