  1. I did this recently on my car to fit a carbon dash (check my blog if you've got time). I removed the scuttle by drilling out the rivets on the front and removing the scuttle retaining bolts and plates before lifting it off rather than removing the "bulkhead" panel of the scuttle due to everything mounted on it. I'd second what paul says about labelling everything, you never know if you'll be delayed putting things back together and you might forget (I took plenty of pictures too for reference later). My original dash was riveted in place with no bonding agent but my new dash is bonded in place - remember a squirt of Waxoyl in the dash frame after you've drilled the rivets out, you can still hear them sliding around in mine because I forgot!! If you need any assistance please message me and I'll do all I can to help.
  2. Roger, as I said, I was generalising and my rant was off the back of your comments rather than at them directly. I realise this incident was just a bit misjudged and there was no malicious intent followed by a quick and genuine apology. I stand by the comments I've made though - we need to think before we type!
  3. I had let it go JK, I'd made my point quite clearly and it didn't require further comment, from anyone. But......now you've got me on it again I'll comment further..........I joined this club a while back and love it, I've had all the technical assistance I could wish for, some interesting an frank debates, I've been provided with some genuinely funny and witty comment on all manner of subjects and, in real life not cyberlife, made some fantastic friends that I enjoy spending time and having a laugh with - all as a consequence of my membership. However - it gets my back up when someone asks a simple question to then be bombarded with comments on grammer, spelling or is replied to in a condescending or deriosry manner. Couple this with endless, and largely irrelevant, links in an attempt to make the respondent look clever or supeirior at the expense of the original poster when a simple answer would do - it's just not cricket! I'm not looking to start a row or jepordise my forum rights but I just feel it needs saying (I doubt I'm alone in my views). There is a wealth of information, experience and knowledge amongst members that is there to share. I'm not, by any means, saying it should be sterile and lack banter but a bit of thought to how your response will be taken wouldn't go amiss sometimes. My comments are a generalisation and not really aimed at anyone but it's needs saying - people will be put off asking questions or posting if we're not careful! I dare say I'll be banned from the forum as a result of a complaint now - so be it.
  4. No wonder some of the other forums and sites are doing so well while this one suffers a bit given that sort of response to a simple question - good way to put people off! It doesn't make you look clever - it makes you look like a smart arse and a bit of a tool.
  5. Yes, but there are other options the OP might want to know about in order to make the choice that suits him and his pocket.
  6. QED do an excellent remote thermostat housing that locates in the top hose, rock steady temps and no airlocks when filling (it looks good too!).
  7. Do the 3 stage POR-15 treatment - I've just done all my rear chassis while the DD tube was out, looks brand new and will last much longer than Hammerite.
  8. I spoke with David, looks like Clive is far too busy so I'm still on the look out.
  9. Nice one Johnny - will do.
  10. Does anyone know of a decent body shop in Dorset - the company I used before simply ins't returning my calls and I'm getting fed up trying. I need my bonnet and nose cone doing again.
  11. Got it all done and torqued up now, thanks very much for all the advice and information offered - it's fantastic that we have the facility to ask those with more experience and they are so ready to help.
  12. Having recently fitted a carbon dash and had to drill it I found a wood drill rather than a metal cutting drill easier to use (less grab) try a slower speed on the drill with tape applied to the surface to avoid scratching or the bit slipping. I drilled very slightly smaller than I needed and then opened the hole up with sandpaper wrapped around a small screwdriver shank, this method leaves a nice smooth edge and removes the risk of drilling too large a hole in the first place. Without doubt the best tip is - take your time, measure, measure, check, measure, check and drill.
  13. I was chatting with Tim from Sevens and Classics this morning and he confirms what Paul has been saying 60 it is!! Paul - spot on, you're a star!
  14. I'm going to jam with 60, 25 seems far to low.
  15. Its giving the same figure for both Paul, its confusing the hell out of me! Time to place a call to the factory I fear!?
