MOT EMISSIONS INFO:

if you have a post AUG 98 vauxhall engined classic, you are gonna need to get it tested to applicable SVA standard, which is 3.5% CO2 and 1200ppm HC. if the garage wont believe you, YOU will have to prove the engine is pre 1995. [this is why you have no CAT because 1995 engines did not require one].

*ONLY* if your car/kit was supplied *complete with a Holden built vauxhall engine from caterham* will they issue you the documents required to prove engine age. and even then, ONLY if you request them.

Simon Lambert has told me this morning he is unable to perform some widespread action to solve this little issue, and issue everyone with paperwork - and will deal with individual cases ONLY as they come up. i was sent my paperwork by Nick at Caterham Midlands - top man!!

ENGINE - GASKETS, SEALS, BELTS ETC. *[prices are approx dealer price] look at www.autovaux.co.uk for cheaper!!

just give them the vx part numbers and they will match up.

Cam belt vauxhall part number 9128725 £19. 79

Cam cover gasket part number 90412303 £5.00

Cam ring seal part number 90280464 £16.30!

Cam ring seal part number 90285291 £7.45!

Cylinder head bolts number 90444861 £27.37

Inlet manifold gasket 90351504 £4.34 (needs a bit of modifying)

excellent vauxhall parts prices, including oil seals and gaskets [for head jobs] from;

www.autovaux.co.uk

Cavalier 1600cc 8v parts list:

http://www.autovaux.co.uk/CategoryList.asp?carID=42

autovaux will accept original VX part numbers and cross ref them for you. remember to tell them the engine is a C16NZ2 this is important, as the NZ2 engine is an oddball. *eek*

Hello,

I have a 2002 1600 8V vx classic. Standard as caterham supplied. The engine has never run very well. This week i went to Aldon Automotive in Stourbridge and had it re jetted.

As caterham supplied:

Main = 115

Air Corrector = 195

Choke = 30

Idle = 50F6

Air Valve = 4.5

Emulsion Tube = F7

Now:

Main = 120

Air Corrector = 170

Choke = 30

Idle 50F6

Air Valve = 4.5

Emulsion Tube = F16

Aldon adjusted the 50F6 idle jet screws and achieved CO = 3.0, HC = 0 which will pass the MOT emissions test.

On the rolling road it made 101 bhp @ 5200 rpm and 120 lb ft torque @ 3250 rpm. (120, thats the same as an 1800 K series!)

The car runs noticeable smoother and has a bit more mid range oooomph. Still runs out of puff before three figures though.

Hope this is of interest.

blatmail seems to be down ☹️

I'm no expert on carbs (!) but by re-jetted did the garage simply adjust and / or replace the existing parts with identical new components or did they adjust and upgrade to different parts?

Your rolling road result is spot on original spec, did the garage have a rolling road that they used when setting up the car or did you then have to take the car somewhere else?

any advice much appreciated!

thanks, Adam
