Tight fart
My x/flow seems to have very poor rolling resistance (i.e. lots of it) If I jack the wheels of the ground to check the brakes are not binding, they are all fine. But compared to another Caterham it is very hard to push. So how can I improve it, and what could cause it? all I can come up with is the gearbox, and tyre pressures (18psi) so would changing the gearbox oil help and if so to what? Lennie
You are getting older.Has it got LSD ?
Buda
take it out of gear and release the handbrake? push it down hill? can't see how gear box oil would affect it?
robmar
get some one else to push it, always easier 😬
Tight fart
Hi len, no its my old crossflow, none of the wheels are binding, but it's a b*gger to push compared to the SLR. Yes its out of gear and the handbrake makes no difference 😬 so it can only be gearbox/diff.
Super_Rich_Bernie
I found that my old Live Axle car was a lot easier to push than the De Dion car I replaced it with (which has a LSD). I understand this is normal - presumably down to the joints in the driveshafts? Jonathan
Graham Perry
When I had the pre-load on my de-dion diff reduced I discovered that it was suddenly a lot easier to push. Perhaps someone could clarify something for me. Would this apparent rolling resistance increase with speed or would it remain consistant ? To what extent could it harm performance
Cooper nut
simple, dont push it, drive it You're only suppose to blow the blo*dy doors off
moomin
If your suspension geometry is all to piss, then life can be harder to push it around. I have this problem a little at the moment, but my rear wheels are like snowploughed ski's! Moomin www.megabird.co.uk
Mike Bees
Get someone to sit in the car, try pushing it with/without the clutch disengaged. If it's easier to push with the clutch disengaged then your gearbox is disintegrating (BTDT). Mike
Tight fart
It is set up pretty much parallel. No LSD
robert green
Maybe its just heavier (possibly by as much as 20%).
DaveMorris
Could it be tyres ? I noticed MAJOR difference when I changed from Cr322's to A021's - pushing it around the garage nd also when turning at low speeds. Not helped by 17psi A021's and 26psi Cr322's (when I eventually got around to checking them !!! - no wonder they were a little bit low on grip )
Nifty
AO21s are quite heavy aren't they?
YW Sin
I heard some where that heated garage can do magics Oh, I know what, isn't your garage carpeted? It may cause rolling resistance? Edited by - yw sin on 21 Mar 2003 12:44:
Delberts Wallet
My car seems easier to push/turn etc now that I have changed tyres from 21r's to RE720's Just adding my 2p's worth Blue and Carbon Supersport
stevefoster
tyres affect it. wide slicks make it really hard to push! I always feel my car is hardish to push about. When on the road and esp when warm it rolls really well so I have never worried about it. My racing pics, 7 DIY, race prep.
