  1. Yes, that was me with my daughter on route to (or on the way back from) the Bicester Scramble. Half hood erected as the air was soooo cold. Roll on summer!
  2. Sounds good. You need to update the cam cover sticker from 152! Enjoy when the rain stops!
  3. Connecting up a noco booster pack tonight got it going, so it is just the battery. I must admit the ctek had led me to believe the battery was fine and holding charge, so a measuring the voltage is the only real way to be sure. GJT, do you have a link for your adaptor, or something similar? Thanks all.
  4. Thanks for the replies. John, it is a agm sealed unit, so can't be that on this occasion. Barry, that is worth a try and not something I had considered. Thanks. Nigel, as above , but I hope not!!!!! I will confirm the cause when I get to the bottom of it. My biggest issue is getting time with the car, which is probably why I'm in this situation in the first place. Cars are better used!
  5. You could try Perranwell Garage. They are Morgan specialists, so should be familiar with much of the running gear in sevens. No experience of them however, but not too far from you.
  6. Thank you Jonathan. A wiring diagram may be useful. The battery came off a ctek that seemed to think the battery was ok, so I had ruled that out. Certainly worth check it's voltage under load, I suppose.
  7. Today was the first chance since October to get the car out. I charged the battery, and all seems well. Key to first position, fuel pump buzzes away happily, and when everything is ready I prime the carbs, turn the key, and all power disappears. I have checked the connections to the battery, and also the earth to the block. Next steps are to check the connections to the starter motor and solenoid I assume. Any other ideas so that I can check everything in turn logically to get to the bottom of this. Will my multimeter help me, and if so how?! Thanks!
  8. #21. That's the conclusion I've come to. I've set up autopay, and don't think about it. It's not much more than a gallon of fuel at the moment. Changing cars much more expensive, and not necessarily what you want to do. I've only got 11 years to go until mine becomes exempt, assuming they keep it rolling on!
  9. I've read this thread with interest, and am surprised how strong feelings run on this issue! My zetec car was running the original bilsteins which were certainly tired. I wanted to replace them, and following the chorus of advice on blatchat to speak to Simon at meteor, did just that. I decided on the core single adjustable dampers supplied by Simon to his recommended spec for road use. They were fitted by the team at pgm who also set it up on their flat floor. I am not qualified to breakdown where the improvements have come from, but whilst I would say the car may be marginally firmer, it is significantly more comfortable on the bumpy roads in France and uk that I enjoy most in my car. The confidence improvement is huge, and the speed that can be carried where before I would have had to lift off was very noticeable to me and to those in our little convoy to sarthe. I am sure the magic worked by pgm is a big part of it, and maybe the original dampers were shot and new billlies would have done the trick, but I certainly haven't ruined the ride and am enjoying the car more than ever before. It wasn't cheap, but I am very happy, and can now stiffen things up on track and that will be a whole new world of experimentation and fun. I hope that's useful, but of course caterham get very good results with the std dampers, so if people prefer that, good on them!
  10. My old mot tester used a tapley meter. The problem was I was always asked to do the brake test in a car park with a loose surface. The skid that always ensued meant for years I had a brake note on the mot!
  11. Was the car kit built? If so mot emissions test is visible smoke only on that era of car. Mine is.
  12. Both look lovely. I would chose the super sprint, but then I'm biased! Good luck with the sales!
  13. Surely Caterham drivers use to Ari Vatanen technique????
  14. I am selling our trusty XC90. It has been replaced by another in readiness for the Ulez rules coming in later this year in London. We certainly would have kept it longer otherwise, as it has been a splendid car. If you are interested let me know. My family are strangely attached to this car and would love it to go to a good home. Personally, I need it gone as it one too many cars to park in London! It has been looked after by a great marque specialist who is currently rebuilding a P1800 and now looks after me with the Caterham at Mot time as they are proper car people. Price £7495 and open to offers! Link here https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202104161428851
  15. So sorry to see this. It will be put right, but on such a new car I'm sure very annoying. I was reversed into, once, down at Le Mans. Fortunately the other driver was from our group and his insurance broker was along for the ride too! Apparently I was shouting pretty loudly before impact! A rear panel and wing was soon sorted. Good luck.
  16. Not sure that's right. I think clam cars have a tighter turning circle than cycle wings. Their racks have a stop on them to limit travel before the cycle wings foul the body....or they did.... edited to say this is a reply to Tony!
  17. Thanks. Sounds encouraging!
  18. New units at circa £130 plus VAT inc springs seems sensible if only for the cosmetics! I had considered that though... I'd be keen to hear from anyone who had done that too as that should drive like new...
  19. I have Super Sprint running its original Bilstein suspension (blue springs up front, progressives at the rear), which I think was a package developed with HBE and Bilstein back in the day. I am sure after 40k miles they have seen better days and am wondering whether to replace like for like, or "speak to Simon". The car has always had a lovely balance, and replicating that with a little more control over the bumps is all I am really looking for. Is there anyone who has refreshed their original set up, and can comment on how they found it? I don't have adjustable platforms, but again assume Jez Coates etc were better at setting up the car than I would be, and have never had an issue with ground clearance, and the car has a nice stance. My car now runs a zetec, but the weight difference over the xflow seems negligible...
  20. That was me. Our group was an MGB, 911, westie and my 7. It was a le mans trip substitute. A bit chiller than Sarthe in June!
  21. Thank Ian. The photo only shows the registration number so I don’t think it could be put to misuse. Other details are obscured, unless I am missing something? Thanks. RJ, thanks for the link.
  22. I am selling a car I have had from new back in 2004. It is a Golf 5 GT TDI 140. It has covered just over 60k miles and has a very comprehensive history. Mechanically A1 but with a few battle scars on the body, it is a very presentable car. Listed here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-GT-TDI-140-One-owner-64k-miles-only-FSH-Black-Manual-Gearbox-/324089497033 Thanks for looking. I am auctioning as I have no idea on value as the mileage and ownership is unusual. Any questions let me know.
  23. If it was a factory engine from that time I would expect it to be an ax block rather than a 711 version. This will be cast into the block, lower down on the exhaust side iirc.
  24. This looks neater than my bits of painted wood! I’ll call and see if they sell the kit less the battery, which I don’t need. Thanks for posting.
