auyt
I am probably rehashing a previous post, but the search engine turned up zilch.have been chasing new front wheel bearings for my 85 Caterham. The originals are KOYO pno. 03052 and 03152. After some frustration of buying Triumph units I discover that the bearing are specific to Caterham..gurrr.how have others tackled this as Caterham don’t have any. Member Jonathan Kay Posted October 8, 2018 Member Share Posted October 8, 2018 I am probably rehashing a previous post, but the search engine turned up zilch. How did you search? I suggest something like: https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Alotus7.club+front+bearings+part ... Call Chris at Redline.Always a good tactic.Jonathan
SM25T
The bearings would not be specific to Caterham. They would only buy something off the shelf ... not have one made just for their design. I did not like the very small outer bearing .... so fitted the hub upgrade kit .... the stub shaft is the same diameter for both bearings. I know it is expensive ... but very worthwhile. Redline stocks this upgrade kit too.
Wrightpayne
Just to clarify the new stub axle supplied with the upgrade kit uses the same bearing for inner and outer race, so the axle is the same diameter for both. You could infer from the above that the original axle and the upgraded bearing axle are the same (well I read it like that!)Ian
blueyedbiker
Try Bearing Traders Ltd, they have depots in Slough, High Wycombe and Uxbridge plus on line sales.Good luck.
SM25T
Indeed ... you don't have to buy bearings from a car parts supplier ... a bearing distributor is best. You have the part numbers.
auyt
Thanks guys I will look into the upgrade it, The KOYO Bearing parts numbers don’t appear on the KOYO web page or the international bearing data base that accessed by those who pay for it. blueyedbiker
The upgrade kit works OK but I found that the disc ran too close to the track rod end dust cover for comfort so I added an extra spacer washer (extra wide track, wow!), the down side being that you'll need a thinner split pin with the castellated nut being slightly further outboard. auyt
My bearing place found thesehttp://bearingsize.info/catalogue-online/tapered-roller-bearings/bearing-4t-03062-03162-ntn-obj159370.htmlI am yet to fit them, the only difference is the assembled thickness .06 mm thinner. It might need a shim behind the cone. The Link alone will be useful for chasing other bearings
SM25T
0.06mm thinner ! .... this bearing assembly is designed to be adjusted by the big outer hub nut. Not a problem.
auyt
I don’t expect a problem, the best bit is there is a bearing available.
ncm
Canley Classics do the upgrade kit in 3 3/4" PCD. https://www.canleyclassics.com/suspension-steering-and-brakes/uprated-front-hub-and-stub-axle-kitBrian.
Wrightpayne
You cannot mention Canley on here - someone might stumble across their big brake kit that uses AP discs at a fraction of the cost of that other well known monopoly of our car parts

auyt
Thanks for the link, I did look at these, however if there wasn’t a bearing available it would be a option, there is and I’m happy with the original setup.
