Roadsport06
I plan on getting my annual service done in the next couple of weeks. On the chip shop run over recent years I have got to see at first hand how bad our lights are. I have been holding back for the last couple of years hoping that our caravan lights would have a LED upgrade. Unfortunately this hasn't happened yet so I'd like to change. SVC do these here. A few questions for those that have fitted these. 1. Does it cover the existing holes up? 2. Are any modifications needed to the wiring or is it plug and play? 3. I wouldn't be too happy with the resistors to stop the fast flashing. Has anyone here swapped the flasher unit to one that is happy with both bulbs and LEDs? If so which one and from where. Many thanks
Stationary M25 Traveller
You need an electronic flasher unit. I was recommended one on here and bought it. Later transpired the polarity of two terminals was reversed compared to our standard flasher. Needs the cables swapping over on the terminal rail under the dash. Never got round to it (yet). Roadsport06
It was probably your post that I read on this about the polarity being the wrong way, I am hoping that someone has already gone down the LED route and brought a flasher unit that was happy with both bulbs and LED and is a straight swap. I am not too keen on the fake carbon fibre look too so this might need to be stray painted.

Roger Ford
LED upgrade for caravan lights and here. (Fog light should work as indicator as well once flasher relay is replaced. Cheaper options are available, but beware, some aren't very bright
Benedict.
I've no idea if they're any good, but I noticed these while surfing eBay! Thought they might be worth pointing out. Personally I need to find a car before I think about alternative lights though 😬 but for future reference I'd still be really interested to see any of the options mentioned in this thread fitted to a 7. Cheers, Ben
Roadsport06
There seem a few choices of lights out there, personally I'd rather stick with the caravan ones but they aren't that bright, LED bulbs are a possibility but having seen LED lamps in action, these are so much better at being seen. I have a phone conversation with Seven Speed lined up to sort out the lighting issue now, so all should be well.

elie boone
You can improve the std lights when u put some ali tape on the reflectors and poslish them or if you have tape with chrome effect that is also a improuvement.
Edzup Ezzer
Hi Geko, rather like the look of your lights. What is their brightness and illuminated colour performance like? How does it compare to standard tungsten lighting as some LED types are disappointing in this respect? Cheers Ezzer
Neil66
Or you could consider fitting the BLMC flush-mount style lamps and replace the incandescent festoon bulbs with LED bulbs - would look something like this... though these are neither the lamps above nor have I got LED bulbs in
Myles
Oh c**p! This reminds me that I fully intended to rewire the Westie rear SVC lights this winter! Not many volts coming through!

How does it compare to standard tungsten lighting as some LED types are disappointing in this respect? Hi Ezzer, this LEDs are "e-marked" and road legal. They are brighter than the standard CC rear lights. The colours are more intense than the tungsten one.
madmaninshed
I've just ordered some 380 Xtreme Power Stop n Tail LED's in Red. They are a new type and supposed to be the brightest available according to the Solware web site. 2 @ £13.95 so not cheap. I'll post on here what they are like, although they won't be installed for quite a while....no engine....no battery...no wings...no gearbox...yet ☹️ I went for the silver (amber light) indicator bulbs as I don't want to mess with resistors etc to make them flash at the right speed. Roger Ford
I bought these from Hong Kong. Good and bright, but they're rather large and you have to squash them in a bit. The Solway 380's look like they might be bunging a large part of their light out the end, which isn't much use in a Caterham. But I'll be interested to hear how you get on. Racing Snake
Madman you don't need to mess with resistors to make LED indicators flash
Roger Ford
Top-quality LED flasher units, £1.38 delivered from Hong Kong here. Or just over a fiver from the UK here. No idea if either of these are any good. I can't find the "Made in EU" one in Mad Hatter's previous post. It's probably the same as the Narva 68245BL but I can't find a UK retailer for that. Stationary M25 Traveller
Just make sure the polarity is correct on these electronic flashers. I was steered towards one, but discovered after I tried it that the cables on the terminal block it plugs in to under the dash have to be reversed. Haven't got round to it yet ! madmaninshed
Thanks very much guys. I will check it out, and hope to change to LED's
michaeljclark
Just changed the front indicators to LED's (from Seven Speed) It was getting dark when I did it, but they are brighter and being LED the light up times are faster. Be good to see the difference in daylight, but as I'm working the weekend it will have to wait. Mike
Roger Ford
Just changed the front indicators to LED's (from Seven Speed) Ah that's where the orange flasher unit comes from! But I don't see any LED indicator bulbs there?
