Thanks guys,

I'm just trying to get my head around all the requirements for the Blacktop over the silvertop.

Also breather boxes etc...

The Quote I got for the Blacktop was from the ebay guy, but without having to go through the aution etc....

hi Jon,

The cooling circuit I sent you does not use the raceline water rail, but uses the standard zetec thermostat housing and hoses. Have a look when we meet up next month.

I've got a retroford sump on, only issue I had was the gasket is not the best, but I go my sump second hand and think it may be slightly out. Sealed with gasket eliminator.

For the water pump on the black top you either need a different water pump or an idler, I fitted an idler off an escort I had laying around.

For the alternator bracket you can make your own, I boughtt on from Retroford and found it put the aletnator too far out so found it would fit if mounted through further down.

I started off with a Dunnell sump, which was a cut down and welded zetec item, perfectly adequate *thumbup*

here

However when we changed to a black top I was unable to resist the charms of the Raceline jobby, it really is the dogs knees. But yes you do pay the premium.

The eBay engine looks well worth more than £3000.

ECU, updated head, cams etc soon add up.

I found how much all the ancillary bits add up to on my recent duratec conversion!

Also beware of engines which are factory seconds

I guess its best to obtain evidence of source etc.

A friend has had problems with a new black top zetec not from eBay but bought for around £700 and things dont add up. I expect others gave had good experiences from eBay etc.

Don't forget:

Head + cams = £1025 plus vat and fitting

Water rail = £200 plus vat and fitting

Omex = £525 plus vat

Sump = £400 plus vat

Doesn't mention the loom but that's another £200 plus vat if included

Total of those alone is £2820 odd

Sounds like a free engine and jenveys to me, bargain... *wink*

It does seem like excellent value at the starting price, but am I the only one that would feel uneasy about investing in something as major as this (that is not being sold by a known company) from ebay?

I note that he says he bought it from Raceline. Might be worth asking them what they know of the situation.... Just a thought.

The ebay seller gave me the name of the original buyer of this engine. I have spoken to Raceline and they confirm that they built an engine to the 200BHP spec for this chap.

I am very tempted by this offer, but I think my finances will find it difficult to match the finals offers *cry*

So it will probably be a new blacktop and carbs for me, but thats not too bad either *tongue* 😬

If I instal a brand new engine into a '92 chassis, what requirements are there in terms of emmissions etc... would I need to fit a CAT or is it the chassis/1st registration date that is counted ?

Did you get an answer to this question?

My understanding is that it's the older of the chassis and engine, together with the date first used.

have a look at http://www.motuk.co.uk/images/7.3page6.pdf

A simple guide is your previous MOT for your 7.

The emision levels which applied to your 7 with the old engine will still stay the same for the new engine.

Mine was a 1990 kit built which required just a visible smoke test, move onto 2011 with a nice new zetec, still just needs a visible smoke test.

I guess it is not usually a problem as most of the people upgrading to a Zetec are coming from an X-Flow.

I have a concern as I may need to upgrade to something that does pass later emission spec.

Sorry for al of the / / / in the last post I did it from a PC with a mac keyboard and it didnt work well
