Caterham LED rear lights

Recommended Posts

I'm considering fitting the Caterham rear LED lights to my 2016 Duratec car. Is it simple plug and play? I've read a recent post with someone talking about polarities anyplace it put me right off!  Any pitfalls? Do they come with good instructions? What are you meant to attach the rain cover to in the absence of the fog/reverse lights?

Straightforward fitment on my '99 car (no spare wheel), although I'd recommend removing the boot floor to do a proper job. There's a CC install video but it doesn't mention the boot floor, unless you have an SV you'll struggle to do a tidy job with the boot floor fitted.

#1:

There is (or was) an informative video on the CC Parts site here, but the site seems to be down at the moment (HTTP 500 error).

Good question.  I can't help as I don't have the LED lights (I went for the JAL rear cluster and fog instead).  I imagine you'd need some sort of hook under the rear basket?

When I fitted them the instructions weren't very good, nor was the video because they'd made changes to the fittings but not updated anything.

No issues with brake lights or anything though I chose to run the loom over the fuel tank to avoid riddling the rear chassis with even more holes.

I upgraded the rear lights to the new Caterham ones on my 2020 kit-build. I decided to upgrade them having already fitted the original 'trailer lights' as part of my build but switched them out while the car was high up on it's stands prior to PBC and IVA.

I used the perviously mentioned video on the CC web-site as my guide. I didn't need to remove the boot floor and managed to tidy the loom up from underneath (I am very particular when it comes to neatly and safely securing the wiring to the car). No major issues as far as I can remember. I think I may have needed to slightly change one of the mounting hole positions for the number plate / reverse light unit to ensure it was mounted dead-centre and I think I converted one of the earth connections to an econoseal plug but other than that it was a straightforward upgrade.

There is now a new loom for cars with spare wheels.

I got Williams to fit mine the other day. The hole in the wing has to be made bigger because the 'tards at Caterham made the connector bigger.
