  1. Hi Danny, The comments on the diff are interested, what sort of LSD are you using ?
  2. Hi Danny, nice box 😬 Suspect that may be on the limit from discussions with g'box chaps :-)
  3. Hi, Q42c should be a good starting point, but suggest run on rollers to get mapping and carbs on song.
  4. Kenny, suspect there must be loads of rubber blocks in peoples garages, following upgrades to metal and them carbon. I am sure there must be someone out there who would be happy to pop some in the post *smile*and release some space on the garage shelf

    Head Machining

Hi Steve, Good engineering shop will be able to replicate this for you using the last machined head as a reference point. Need to be certain the new castings are dimensionally appropriate. I have two questions: 1. Is the objective to produce one finished head ? 2. is the objective to collect the data from the process so that a "batch" of castings can be machined for the lucky few vegantune 7's and Elan owners ? Ant
  6. Been there too, and when it comes to sell its not worth much 😬
  7. Thanks Mickrick, lovely but a little expensive
  8. All of the gearbox chaps I have spoken to have said its the syncro rings that will fail with boring regularity, followed by other issues. Road and Race made a wonderful job of my 6 speed, but its not worth putting one in, just for it to fail in a year. Quaife are bullish about the new 5 speeds being very strong, especially the dog box
  9. Try earth - if not suggest new tacho ( I put a stack in and they are brilliant :-))
  10. Thanks chaps, looking at a Quaife bulk-buy for 5 speed dog and helical boxes, Mike thanks for the Drenth suggestion, I have heard they are good.
  11. Pete. I may need to upgrade the engine even more to use that...looks like there is at least another 21 bhp therefore the asking, to take it up to 316 bhp 😬
  12. Ok, this is part of project X, but what about one of those lovely 7's with an 11 type ali body on it - may get past the 150 mark...
  13. Thanks chaps, will pass on the guidance ! Ant
  14. Thanks chaps. Expensive this power business The Quaife solution (sequential is the default) but buyer a bit put off by shockloads etc. Mark, fully understand where you are coming from and Road and Race Trans did a great job of building my 6 speed when old engine was c.250, upgraded to sequential and now wish I hadn't sold it Dave thanks for the steer and suspect thats the long term solution.
  15. Spot on James, Also, Blydenstein Engineering may be able to help with parts as they did quite a bit of tuning on 8v 01763 272866 Regards Anthony
  16. Gents, welcome your thoughts. Trying to help with disposal of 300 bhp engine (214 lb ft), and boxes go go with it. The great Quaife box went with the chassis and potential purchaser is considering sequential, but also looking at other options. From discussions, I recall Caterham 6 speeds if built properly, should be ok Will strengthened type 9 be strong enough Welcome thoughts from the powerful XE's/K's/BD's/Duratec chaps as to what works without breaking
  17. Does anyone have a type 9 to VX (16V) alloy bell-housing please ? Cable clutch type Many thanks Anthony
  18. If they are DITP then they will be fine
  19. Hi, stack sensors work OK when used remotely. Supplier suggested they should be changed as precaution on a regular basis if sensor is on high reving/vibration engine.
  20. Hi, I think I have a "8V" alternator sitting on the shelf - it came as part of a 16V kit from a race car, you are most welcome to it, even if its just to use as an exchange. I suspect I need to drop Saab off at Abbotts over the next week or so, would it be helpful to drop it off there?
  21. Danny, from recollection the Sytec pumps can be obtained fromn FSI, and fit the standard Rover pump holder that fits in the tank. For high output engines I am advised the R500 pump is marginal - fine for 250 bhp. Last thing you want is the engine running lean on a track as fuel is not getting pumped fast enough. FSI have a nice pump which delivers 5 bar and suitable for up to 400 bhp - used a lot in tuned scoobies.
  22. Hi Jon, Sounds like a good idea to go with H&S at that price. The pipes in Slough were to special swindon design and liberated another 10-15 bhp over SBD, when measured on the dyno H&S will make a lovely job, is it just supply and demand driving down the cost at H&S ?
  23. Jon, Binning the carbs would be a great but expensive plan. Suggest you leave it as it is and enjoy On the exhaust, there will always be a compromise between output and noise reduction, but I echo Aves comments about exhaust exit via bonnet ala K2RUM, and Swindon recommended a brilliant company in Slough, who make exhausts to match the dyno rig exhaust
  24. Hi Kenny, Fully agree that other engines (including Swindon built) can deliver 250 bhp+ Suspect there is 5-10 bhp to be gained in an exhaust - certainly was with my new engine IIRC the JPE engine also retained valve std springs ? When I built my first XE engine I ended up with the wrong cams and despite huge expense ended up with 230+
  25. Just curious, as Aves post on 218/235 spec engines suggests that an ideal inlet and exhaust is needed to achieve output. From my experience on the Swindon dyno, a respected 4;2;1 exhaust design needed to be replaced with different primary lengths to achieve the power output. Is it the same with JPE, ie 250 bhp is achieved with different exhaust/inlet and when it goes into a 7 the output may be lower ? Anthony
