  1. I can only imagine that should something that would be a safety issue be found you would not be able to drive home after a failure. I had a few minor issues that could have been rectified at the IVA with the tools and stuff I took along but my biggest issue was paperwork related, IIRC an incorrect engine number on the certificate of newness that required a replacement. I’d also recommend checking over the car after the PBC, mines was returned with the rear wheels having been replaced on the wrong sides - my photo of the car on the flatbed as it left for the PBC showed I had them on the right way. I’d recommend taking as much paperwork as you’ve got on the car, some of which you need anyway but definitely a certificate of insurance, just in case you get stopped by the police as happened to me. 2. Road test for mine at Leighton Buzzard.
  3. I used nylon fasteners and was told by Caterham after the post build check to remove them for the IVA. I swapped back to nylon after the IVA. Steve

  6. It would appear that you can create new topics without being signed in to the site. There's at least one post already that looks dodgy. I've also tried creating a new topic when not signed in that appears to work, although I have not tried submitting it so as not to add more clutter. Steve
  7. The gearbox supplied for my Sigma Supersport was the standard version rather than the close ratio version I was expecting. When I complained I was told that all the close ratio gearboxes had been fitted with input shafts suitable for a Duratec. I suggested that they convert on back to being suitable for the Sigma which they did. No sign, from what I remember, that it was not a single piece.
  8. I went to Leighton Buzzard for my IVA in 2015 and found it to be a positive experience. The examiner explained everything he was doing and why. He was friendly and very professional throughout. I didn't pass first time, mostly due to a documentation issue, but was left with the impression that he was disappointed that it was a failure. Retest took about five minutes and was done by a different person, equally friendly and professional. Steve

  10. Hi James, Saw this while browsing eBay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204190234549. Steve

  12. I had mine repaired two years ago at Berkshire Radiators in Caversham and still leak free. I think I paid around £70 for it. Steve
  13. I had my post build check done at Caterham. They did a few things within the time they allow. Anything else from their list I resolved myself before submitting the car for the IVA. The car was driven to the IVA station; if you do this make sure you've got your documents in order, I was pulled over by the police as he spotted the lack of plates - not a problem. Steve
  14. You look like you could be local to me and I've still got mine that you could borrow. Steve

    R13 Tyres

I got my last set of Avon ZZS from BMTR motorsport - https://www.bmtrracing.com/. They were the cheapest I could find and no additional cost for fitting if you can get the wheels there. I believe they will send out tyres but have no idea of shipping costs. I shopped around amongst Caterham, Avon Motorsport (pre-club discount), Williams Automobiles (I used them for my first set of ZZS) and Caterham Silverstone just to give you a few places you might find a set. 18. Having had a long conversation on this subject with Steve Perks he explained torque is the contributing factor and given the torque multiplication from the gearbox lower power engines can result in the same problem. I'm seeing problems with my BMW diff on a 2012 Sigma Supersport with around 15,000 road and track miles on it. I can spin a wheel with less than 10 ft lbs. Last week when in for an MOT I was asked whether I was sure it had an LSD fitted based on what they observed - they work on a lot of classic road and race cars fitted with LSDs. My diff has always been quiet, almost certainly carbon plates, and continues to be so but does not appear to be operating as intended. Steve

    Radiator leak

I had mine repaired earlier this year and seems fine since including three track days. Mine was done by Berkshire Radiators. Steve

    Tyres

I've been shopping around for ZZS and found BMTR to be as cheap as anyone else but if you can get there they fit too at that price. Lots of options at the same / similar price but after factoring in postage and fitting I'm prepared to travel. The others I got quotes from are Avon Motorsport, Caterham, Caterham Silverstone and Vintage Tyres. Steve
  21. I didn't but it came up in conversation with the tester. The trim is required on the top edge and anything slightly sharp, such as switches, near to edge of the cockpit also need to be protected. A friend cable tied cut down baby bottle teats to the switches. Steve
  22. Hi Geoff, I've stayed at the Nant Yr Odyn in Anglesey a couple of times. A bit out of the way and have seen a few trailers there. https://www.nantyrodyn.co.uk/ Cheers, Steve
  23. CR500s were okay in the wet but much more confident with ZZS, both on track and road. Steve
  24. Nant Yr Odyn Country Hotel - stayed there for 2017 and 2018 track days, couldn't get in for 2019. steve
