  1. You can move it to wherever you want to as long as it's upright, in the race cars it's often moved onto the transmission tunnel so that it can be reset quickly if it trips in a race.

I'm not trying to start an argument, just spoke from my own experience, obviously people are free to choose whatever they wish to use. If 291 works for you (and to be fair you have a lot more surface area than I do with just 2 small bigheads per stay, and less stress if the rear stays are drilled and bolted) that's good news. Sika 291 spec sheet - Fast Cure Marine Adhesive and Sealant Areas of Application: - General all - purpose sealant - May be used for light duty – bonding Sika 292 spec sheet - Structural adhesive for marine applications Areas of Application: Sikaflex® -292 is suitable for structural joints in marine constructions which will be subjected to high dynamic stresses. Suitable substrate materials are timber, metals, particularly aluminium (including anodised finishes), metal primers and paint coatings (twocomponent systems), ceramic materials, plastics such as GRP (unsaturated polyester resin), ABS, etc.

The issue of Bigheads (or the bond) failing comes up for discussion so often, as I've been using them for 15 years on 2 cars I'll summarise my experience here - When bonding bigheads to cycle wings god preparation is key - I clean the areas to be bonded with isopropyl alcohol and scratch the surface just a little. I originally bonded big heads to GRP wins with Sikaflex 291 (black) and they lasted just a couple of weeks before the bonding failed. Sika 291 is a sealant not an adhesive (but has been used by some for bonding direct to wingstays where the contact area is much larger and can be glooped around the stay. I then switched to Sikaflex 292 (white, large tubes only and expensive). I've never seen (nor heard of) a bond failure using this, it is used to stick yacht bulkheads together, very strong. On my Academy car I used Bigheads own 'Big Bond fast set acrylic' with no bonding problems but I did have 2 Bigheads fail (weld failed) and I know a number of other people have experienced this, possibly bad batches manufactured? Then on my original car I switched to carbon wings and used 'Big Bond fast set acrylic' which was fine for a couple of years then all of a sudden I had a complete bond failure (lifted clean off the wing) on 2 fasteners at Castle Combe (over 100 mph on the straight). No idea why, possibly due to extreme cold (the car was out of the garage overnight and it was icy), but I don;t know. So now I've fitted new wings with Sika 292 and no problems so far. I've never had a cable tie break either, even though in the Academy I used very thin ones! This is how I go about fitting them.

You can buy them singly here
  5. It is Darren, I'm over the moon with it, the performance is stunning but so are the creature comforts and the noise is awesome, I'll have to pop over sometime and take you for a spin.

  7. Essex just happened to be where the supplying dealer was - they would have delivered to us but we decided to collect and enjoy a drive home It's a bit 7-like when it comes to grin factor :)

  9. I bet you would! They charge £700 delivery but it ends up further from my house than the port it came in to! A friend of mine ordered one as well, it came on the same boat as mine but hasn't made it to the dealers in Portsmouth yet!
  10. Yep, well just about - M135i, it arrived into Southampton a couple of days ago and I'm collecting from Essex tomorrow. 326 horses, should be a laugh!
  11. No, the link from photobucket app worked fine (it has a 'copy link' button which makes it easy). I don't have any problems with images or links when on my laptop, it's just a bit fiddlier on my phone. I've not used photobucket before, that's what I was testing tbh.
  12. Thanks, that's the one I just sold! I wanted to see how to get a photo on my iphone on to photobucket then on to here. Picking up the replacement car tomorrow . . . . twice as many cylinders, 3 times the cc and probably not as economical ;)

  14. IIRC I got my replacement from Canley Classics.
  15. I believe Charles has it off the car so the correct answer is 'use a bigger hammer' I believe.
  16. I remember you building that car Charles, it really has had a few adventures hasn't it! I think it's done tremendously well to have lasted 12 years!
  17. I have 2 tyres that were donated by Tony Collins a former member of the L7C that are offered in exchange for a donation to NtL. They are old (2004), but with about 4mm tread left and have been stored in the corner of a garage so should be perfectly adequate for a handling day or drift experience and maybe after a heat cycle they'd be OK for trackday use? 185/60 R13 What are they worth? £20 each maybe?
  18. Just been dealer serviced so ready to go for the next 12,500 miles and with 12 months recovery service.
  19. In my year in the Academy (2013) the brakes were far from reliable for many of us, a change in supplier of the standard cylinder (when Girling stopped making them) seemed to cause a drop in quality. The symptom was a very spongy pedal most of the time and a lot worse when hot. The fluid was passing by the seal in the master cylinder after a short while in use. Some people seemed to get on OK but the majority spent as much time bleeding the brakes as they did driving (slight exaggeration but certainly bleeding in between track sessions was common place). I believe this is less of a problem on new cars now but if you have one of the bad ones no amount of bleeding or pad change will fix it.
