  1. Steve, From my interpretation of rules (listed below) I think that both are legal for sprinting and indeed racing (the latter until 1.1.2005) Racing ------ BS 6249 part 1 Index A or B (but not C) * BSEN533 * Pr EN533:1995 index 3 * FIA Standard Overalls * Not acceptable w.e.f 1.1.2005 All other events --------------- BS 6249 part 1 Index A or B (but not C) BSEN533 Pr EN533:1995 index 3 FIA Standard Overalls But please draw your own conclusions SteveP

    R350

I have also been told that the 'true' engine output on an R300 is probably more like 165 - 167 bhp, but do not have any evidence as such. Yes there were rumours of the engine being replaced with a stock VVC item, but with the recent 1K price rise, this has covered the increased cost of the roller barrelled unit I believe. SteveP
  3. I believe that the Academy spec CR322 tyres are 185/70 profile. Stick with 13" rather than buying the 15" wheels and for your use, the A021R would seem to be the best bet. If you do go 15", seriously look at the Avon CR500 tyre as there have been some good reports about the newer compound (wet and dry conditions) from others on this forum. The ones fitted to the R300 are 195/45 profile. SteveP
  4. I think that they are around the £500 mark SteveP
  5. They are Avon CR500's, as fitted to the R300, 400, 500 etc. SteveP

    Idiot Questions

132bhp at the wheels is almost unbeliveable, since general consensus that transmission losses etc would account for 20 - 25%, so maybe a realistic 'at the wheels' figure might be 105 - 112 bhp for a 140 bhp engine. But like others have said, different rolling roads, conditions, way the test was conducted, coast down adjustment methods all vary the actual result. SteveP

  8. Can anyone help with my queries above? Thanks SteveP
  9. I don't think all De-Dion cars have one - certainly my old '89 xflow didn't. Having recently had a look under a R300 which does have one, it'll be pretty obvious whether you have it fitted or not. I don't think that there is a problem having it added to the car, but I you'll need the mouting points for it and I don't know whether they are standard on all chassis. SteveP
  10. I bought one of the Mocal tanks from DT at the Autosport Show, but am awaiting for it to be delivered (errm, as well as the car it goes on) Fred, I've seen a picture of your installation and the hoses look really nice - can I ask where from? On Julian Thompson's installation, the second inlet is blanked off - where can I get a blanking plug from? I've done an internet supplier trawl, but I don't really know what I'm after Is it a straight swap for the plastic bottle as supplied from Caterham (same mounting screw holes)? Sorry Peter, not mean't to be a hijack - seemed appropriate rather than creating another thread SteveP
  11. Echo Oily's comments - my centre gasket blew very quickly after replacing it with the Caterham supplied part. Ended up taking it down a local racing outfit who linished the exhaust primaries completely flat to the head. They reassembled it without a gasket at all, just some sealing compound and it was fine after that. Yep, only one mounting point for the exhaust. SteveP
  12. Isn't the higher profile meant to give you more progressive predictable handling at the limit? Dunno, but when I switched from 195/50 15s to 185/60 13s the ride was more forgiving and 'just felt better' - an emotive statement, I know SteveP

    Caterham upgrade

The MBE is remappable, but is password protected by Caterham so that the end user doesn't have a go at it SteveP

    Caterham upgrade

A lot of it depends on whether you want to remain within a factory spec (and hence factory supported), which is important if you come to sell it on via Caterham or perhaps trade it in against another model. SteveP
  15. If you get no better response from Caterham, you could drop an email to Minister engines - they make them after all (well, the R3,4,500 ones anyhow) And let us know, as I'll be doing the same thing in the New Year SteveP
  16. I'm no expert on this, but I thought jacking the rear directly on the De-Dion tube was a no-no since they are relatively fragile, and that far better was to place the jack under the diff Hopefully someone will come along and tell me I'm talking rubbish and that you'll be fine ☹️ SteveP
  17. I think that the cat replacement pipe is around £300, probably plus VAT and is essentially the 4 to 1 collector without the catalyst bit tagged on the end SteveP

    Wheel Weights

Ken, The R300 wheels will be much lighter than Prisoners I would have thought SteveP
  19. Thanks - that all makes sense now. Yes, I think someone rigged up a Mocal(?) catch tank instead that looked the business - I too will be taking a closer look at this once the car arrives. SteveP
  20. Darren, Slightly off your topic, but did your R300 come with an oil catch tank as standard or did you have to spec it specially? I have my R300 on order (also dry sumped) and intend to use for sprints / hillclimbs etc which requires a catch tank, but I didn't specifically spec one. Thanks SteveP Edited by - SteveP on 28 Nov 2002 11:01:11

    scallops

Not CR500s, but I had the same symptoms you describe happen to a pair of Bridgestone SO2s and ended up totally wrecking them - the answer was way too much toe in. Got it set parallel and no more abnormal tyre wear after that. SteveP
  22. Sorry, been away for a while Yes, wheels and rims still up for grabs and Graingey, you have mail. Cheers SteveP
  23. Mine fits perfectly between the two uprights of the FIA bar and the back of the boot - held very snug and doesn't seem to move SteveP
  24. Boing! C'mon, someone must want them for something, even if it's not for a Seven? SteveP
